The Time Traveler's Wife is loosely based on the 2003 novel by American author Audrey Niffenegger. The novel was adapted for the screen by American screenwriters Jeremy Leven and Bruce Joel Rubin.
Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) suffers from a genetic "chronome" impairment that causes him to time travel to events in his past and, occasionally, his future. On one of these travels, he meets young Clare Abshire (Brooklynn Proulx) who falls in love with him. Even though Henry has the unfortunate knack of disappearing at the most inopportune times, he and grownup Clare (Rachel McAdams) manage to maintain a relationship and, eventually, a marriage. However, having children and knowing what's going to happen in the future poses particular problems.
