Pee chong air

I liked the idea behind this movie based on what I read here. It may have looked a bit low budget and all, but that's fine. What really let me down is how much this movie looked like it wanted to be a Thailand version of Ju-on/The Grudge, with a bit of Shutter, Ring and other things thrown in.

I didn't really find any suspense in this at all. And what really bothered me is they had a good idea and the ability to tell a nice story with a horror element a la Dark Water or A Tale of Two Sisters.

In the end it falls pretty flat with the last 10 or so minutes doing an okay job of redeeming the film.

A group of teenage rock musicians-five boys and one girl-arrive in Bangkok for a concert.They end up staying in a strange hotel room where eerie things begin to occur.When it starts to get hot in the Room 409,they remove the ceiling vent.Each person who looks up into the duct suddenly flees.Turns out that they all see the ghost of a Tulip hotel prostitute that was brutally beaten and killed in Room 409.She was even decapitated, and the police found her head in the air conditioning system.Each of the musicians is cursed and some of them will die..."The Sisters" is hardly original.It borrows heavily from "Ringu" and "Ju-on" and what's is even more interesting it features some obvious nods to "Suspiria".However the film is actually pretty creepy and offers a little bit of gore.Give it a chance.

A quick sum up on the plot I watched it as The Sisters.

A prostitute is killed in an hotel room her head was chopped off and left in the air conditioning unit.some months later a rock band spend the night in the room,only to find the spirit of the woman still in the room.Each member of the band afterwards meet grisly ends.

Asian cinema as caught onto the US trend of teen horror recently this one being very Ju-on crossed with Evil Dead Trap feeling and is well enough made,but as all the other ghost j-horrors these days you'll not find anything new in it.That said its well worth a casual view probably best saved for a rainy night when you'd be stuck in watching poor TV anyway,a couple of nice set pieces will keep most horror fans happy enough.I loved the green tint used in the hotel Dario Argento used to use flushes of colour like this in his 70s thrillers.It coulda been a contender instead of a bargain bin buy I give it an average [5 out of 10] good effort but there's far better films like this around.

There aren't any major problems with this movie. Lots of scenes are spooky. The acting is solid. The music is good.

The issue is that this movie has the same story as "The Grudge" and doesn't pull it off as well. It feels hollow throughout.

It is also really hard to figure out the name of this movie. I think it is in the US as both "The Sisters" and "The Sister."

I had not even heard about "The Sisters" (aka "Pee chong air") prior to getting the opportunity in 2020 to sit down and watch it. But with it being a Thai horror movie, of course I needed no persuasion to actually find the time to watch it, not even with the movie being 16 years old.

Well, now as the movie has ended, I am feeling that this is a shameless rip off of the Japanese "The Grudge" movies, as it was essentially the same storyline transpiring on the screen. A lady ghost and a little boy ghost, and they even had copied that classic and unique sound that the lady makes in "The Grudge", just not as loudly or as outstanding.

The storyline, while being straight forward, was actually a bit on the boring side. I caught myself looking at social medias a couple of times throughout the course of the movie. It just felt that it took writer and director Tiwa Moeithaisong forever to get from A to B.

As for the characters in the story, well let me just be the first to say that the character gallery was bland. In fact, it felt as if they were essentially all one and the same. It was hard to differentiate between the characters and notice where one character ended and the next one began. So on that account "The Sisters" was lacking tremendously.

However, there was some enjoyment to the movie. But keep in mind that this is by no account the most memorable or scary of ghost movies to make it out of the Thai cinema.

My rating of "The Sisters" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars.
