Teri Talash Mein

An amateurish effort to horror!

Vinod Talwar has made some movies that I can say were mélange of the elements of Horror, Thriller, Slasher and Romance. Not all his movies have appealed me. His best effort was seen in 'Wohi Bhayanak Raat'. Despite being a shameless bastardized version of Tom Holland's comedy horror cult classic 'Fright Night', the movie had some features of its own and some of the scenes were quiet intense and capturing.

Teri Talash Mein is Talwar's one such effort but It lacks the efficacy one always expects from a true horror movie. The movie is something one wouldn't prefer to remember after leaving the theater. I remember, some films like Ramsays' Dahshat, Darwaza, Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche, Sannata, and Hotel, S.U. Saiyed's Bhayanak and P. Chandrakumar's Chudail lived in my mind for years together. Unfortunately Teri Talash Mein has a volatile taste and has nothing that would force a viewer remember the gist it creates on screen.

A wealthy business man Mehta (Anil Dhawan) is murdered along with his 20-24 years old daughter Shilpa. Mehta has a business partner Deviprasad (Ajit Vachchhani), who promises to take care of Mehta's widow after Mehta's unexpected demise. We also see Deviprasad's younger step-brother Sandhu (Jack Gaud), who along with his love interest Suzie (Huma Khan) is trying to manipulate Deviprasad's property. He is often seen scheming or drinking with Suzie and is one of the prime suspects of the murder. The other suspect is Mehta's brother Rajesh Mehta (Rajan), who left his brother's riches and went to seek out a career in music. He is mostly seen living lavishly and is seriously in love with Leena Nair.

Meanwhile the police arrests Mehta's former secretary Mr. Saxena (Kamal Deep) for Mehta's murder. Saxena has lot to explain here because the police has collected and identified his belongings at the murder site. Saxena confesses that his wife was having an illegitimate affair with Mehta, and bewildered by her adultery, he also went to Mehta's place with a motive of murder, but when he entered in the room, he found him dead.

Now we see Deviprasad's son Akash taking his way to India directly after finishing his studies at London. He discovers his uncle Sandhu's fraudulent activities and after giving him a severe warning begins administering his company with an iron fist. Akash wants to build a hotel at a serene location. Cupid strikes Akash when he sees a girl dressed in white, singing in the wilderness. He is surprised to see that the girl who is helping him in his hotel project is none other than the one he saw singing earlier. Her name is Shalini aka Shalu. Akash tries to go personal with Shalini and wants to marry her. He also meets Shalini's father, who is a villager and a simpleton. Akash captures his intimate moments with Shalu in a camera and hurriedly proceeds to his parents. He wants to show them Shalu's picture.

He first goes to Rajesh and is surprised to see Shalu's photograph at his house. Rajesh tells him that the girl is not Shalu, Akash's lover, but Shilpa, Rajesh's niece and Mehta's daughter, who was also killed with Mehta. Akash disbelieves Rajesh's story and takes them to the place where he met Shalu, but he finds nothing of Shalu, neither her father nor house. It seems that Shalu and everything related to her has entirely sublimed. Shalu is also nowhere to be seen in the photographs Akash took earlier.

The police is unable to trace the culprit and so inspector Dinesh (Sudheer Pandey) devises an unequaled plan to catch the killer.

The movie is below average in my opinion. It has lot of romantic sequences that leave the horror lovers in discomfort. The camera work is not at all appealing. It misses that creepy and foreboding touch, the key ingredient of horror flicks. The actors are mediocre. One who looks truly genuine among all the performers is Jack Gaud. Yes, the true son of a bitch. The new comers have remained childish through out the movie and Ajit Vachchhani delivers strong performance. The biggest problem with this movie is that there are various intertwined plots that cause the flick lose the substance of entertainment. Simply blowing white mist around the 'evil spirit' is no macabre and fails to instantly induce horror in the minds of the viewers. The locations chosen are like any other location that one would choose for Bollywood dance numbers.

Not at all promising by any means.
