When you have in mind, that this is only a German TV-Production, this is a decent movie. It is actually well made and The Director was even nominated for an Oscar for doing the short Movie "rote Jacke". The Story might not be the most original one, but it is quite entertaining. This is about the Templars, that are responsible of guarding the tomb of Jesus Christ and the holy grail. The holy grail is supposed to give eternal life to the one that drinks from it. The story however is focused on a boy, who doesn't know who his parents are but notices, that he is somehow special. He is much stronger than the average human and his wounds also heal pretty quick. He grew up in a monastery but he doesn't know any of his past or origin. one day when he is 18 years old, he is being kidnapped and he finds out things that he wished he never would have found out. This is where the main story begins. Some love elements as well as family drama are integrated in this adventure movie, though not always very convincing. But overall this is a quite entertaining movie, considering that this is only a TV-production. The action scenes are also done very well. overall a 7 of 10 point movie.
Interesting movie! But a bit too many ingredients in this cake. Interestingly enough there were even elements of the "Magic Fluge" (Queen of the night, apparently good, yet evil + Sarastro, apparently evil yet good plus Tamino + Pamina carrying the day after trials and tribulations) Strange, though, that they refer in this film to Constantine as "Roman KING" rather than emperor, handing the "Western Provinces of Rome" to the "Vatican". More strange that the "Rock of Petri" is supposed to be "under" the Vatican in the catacombs. This is more than a bit bizarre, including the immaculate condition of Constantine's tomb (Huh?) there. I always thought he died and was interred in "his" city of Constantinope? But hey, it's only a movie.
On the whole, it's well done, though, good action scenes, albeit a tad lengthy at times. Plot line a bit overconstrued but intriguing, the acting was/is great, but the dialogue somewhat tortured at times and the music almost always cheesy.
It was an enjoyable 3hours+, but if they find a way to simplify the plot a bit, shorten some of the (excellent) sword fights, go easy on the gore - and bring it down to just under 2hours, this will be one hell of a good movie!!!

In the first minutes of the movie you can already know what the whole movie is about: swordfighting, techno music, regenerating humans and, of course, bad acting. I can easily describe it by saying: Da Vinci Code meets Highlander. And it is as horrible as it seems. Actions scenes are okay. Sometimes the scenes end and you're asking yourself why it took so long ( example: the main characters leave the screen and you get to see people walking on the background for way too long giving the scene some kind of funny feeling ). The main actor is okay ( I'm being nice here ) but most of the cast is horrible. You can smell every intrigue coming from a thousand mile away. No originality whatsoever. I recommend it for anyone who likes to laugh at movies not made to be funny.
Some good moments, so many bad ones
This made for TV movie has definitely some good moments, no it's not the script, that's a bad moment it's the locations for example. Shot in Lithuania, with some truly breathtaking views of the former Russian enclave.
Story sets around the legendary temple knights and, yes you guessed it, 'Highlander'. (Twist your neck again and again bad fellow) Young student (Mirko Land) doesn't know he is a chosen one, a direct descendant of one of the founding temple members . Bad thing is, he is wanted by both his parents, his evil mom and noble dad. (Harald Krassnitzer He's really good) and then it's about the holy grail again Minus point: Absolutely cool sword fights (for a TV Movie) are completely and utterly ruined with loud and cheep computer music. Why? Why on earth do German TV Movies have to have an abundance of music in all the wrong places. This one is no. 1 for worst sound design and music, EVER in MOVIE. Watch any US / GB / FRENCH sword fights and voila, the less music the better morons. To round it up. Whatever happened to former beauty Catherine Flemming? Here she looks like a mob and is completely out of place acting wise. Two part miniseries, good ratings but lost about 1 Million viewers on the second part. No wonder, 'you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all times '

I really liked this movie very much. It tells a moving story in a quite straightforward way. The viewers are immediately drawn to identify with the main character David, an orphan who gradually discovers his roots and with them a feud of several centuries' duration that he suddenly finds himself involved in.
The acting was quite good, especially the young couple (I already liked Alicja Bachleda-Curus in "Sommersturm"). And there are some very nice swordfighting scenes between the two rivalling orders.
Some characters were too transparent from the beginning (I knew the villain after five minutes) and they seem to have borrowed some traits from other movies (X-men, Indiana Jones), but hey! this is a young director. And he took on quite a big issue: some of the great relics of Christianity (the Holy Grail etc.), the Order of the Temple, ancient rivalry, two love stories....(no wonder there are a few loose ends).
All in all, it's really worth watching. I enjoyed it immensely!
