Temudjin: Our laws will be simple.
Temudjin: Don't kill women or children.
Temudjin: Don't forget your debts.
Temudjin: Fight enemies to the end.
Temudjin: And never betray your khan.

Young Borte: Why did you come here?
Young Temudjin: I'm going to the Merkits to choose a bride. I'm here for the night.
Young Borte: Smart people choose us for brides.
[after a pause]
Young Borte: Goodbye Temudjin.
Young Temudjin: [Calls after her] Wait! What's your name?

Old Man: [comes closer and feeds Temudjin water to drink] You scare me!

Old Man: You won't forgive any of us.

Jamukha: Don't tell anyone we went to war over a woman.

Oelun: [Is being threatened by a masked rider] Get down. I want to see your face.

Temudjin: [Kneels before the shrine] Lord of the blue sky, great Tengri. I bow before you. Give me the strength.

Börte: I always want to be with you, Temudjin.
Börte: I promise.

Oelun: [Targutai is raiding the campsite] Are you not afraid to steal, Targutai?
Targutai: No! The khan Esugei is dead!
Oelun: [Indicating Temujin] My son will avenge us!
Targutai: [Turns around threateningly] You want me to kill your son?

Young Temudjin: [Is being humiliated in the mud] Tarutai! Tell people I don't want to be khan.
Targutai: [laughs] You're a dog. Nobody cares about you anymore!
Young Temudjin: Why do you still want to kill me?
Targutai: I'll sleep better.
Young Temudjin: [after a pause] I'll kill you!
Targutai: I'll kill you first.
[Rides off]
Targutai: Bastard!

Esugei: [Dying words] Be strong... and ask our Lord of the blue sky, great Tengri... to help you.

Young Temudjin: [Inspecting a line of brides-to-be] I choose you.
Young Borte: I accept.
Young Temudjin: [Turns to his father] I have chosen my bride!

Esugei: All Mongols fear the thunder.

Temudjin: [Looks at Borte] I will always return to you.

Jamukha: Now you're Khan and I'm at your feet. Are you happy?
Temudjin: I forgive you, brother.
Jamukha: It's too late. I'll always be a rock in your boot.

Temudjin: [Indicates Borte] She is carrying my son.
Jamukha: [Notes Chiledu's corpse and laughs] I see!
