Chicken Dressing

While young Earl Hurd Jr. is writing the scenario for the latest Bobby Bumps cartoon, the chicken is busy laying eggs. When he finally gets around to directing the cartoon, however, Bobby Bumps balks at the cartoon smoke, which looks more like springs to him.

It's a fascinating little mixed live-action-and-animation short, with animal players like Hall Roach's abortive Dippy Doo Dads series. More than that, it shows a sensibility that is not what we expect of cartoons nowadays, with their elaborate Cartoon Physics and mutability of objects. there's mockery of Earl Hurd, who doesn't seem to do anything in regards to making this cartoon, except for putting his name on it.... and drawing a nice salary, I imagine. A very nice example of Hurd's long-running series.

A boy is drawing cartoons with a bunch of animals as models. The little chick is causing havoc. In the cartoon, Bobby Bumps is a firefighter with his dog Fido. They interact with various live-action animals. Bobby gets into real trouble and goes to the hospital.

This is a mix of animation and live-action from Earl Hurd. It's a fun little dig at the animator to put a kid in his place. More than that, I like the fire scenes. I like the live action animals with smoke. It's a fun concept for both sections. The resuscitation is a little intense. I wouldn't mind playing up the cartoon element to make it more fun.
