You're never quite sure what you'll get when you watch a low-budget flick; I've often found them to be a surprise - surprisingly good or surprisingly bad. "Rum" falls solidly in the "surprising good" category. Although not perfect (there's always room for improvement, right?), it's well written and directed; has big budget camera work; good acting; and top-notch editing. An excellent job overall. It would have been nice if it was a bit longer, allowing for the characters and story to develop more fully. It's my understanding that this was entered into a contest with a time limit. Too bad.
Bottom line - it left me wanting to see more.

This little gem is excellent in every respect. The plot races along with clever dialogue and great visuals. The photography is lush and very creative. I didn't guess the ending and maybe that's why it won a Best Screenplay Award at the Palm Beach International Film Festival. These guy put a whole film into a five minute short.
The directing is crisp and sharp, and the colors are vivid. The actors are believable and I loved the bartender, who looks like all the bartenders who ever poured me a drink. I'd like to see this group make more movies.
I believe this was shot in digital video.
