Justin Manfredi is exiting Apple TV+ to join Lionsgate as executive VP of worldwide television marketing.

Manfredi succeeds Suzy Feldman, a 10-year veteran of Lionsgate, who is retiring. Manfredi, in addition to overseeing all original series marketing for the studio, will support Lionsgate’s focus on content licensing to worldwide buyers, its proprietary channel initiatives including more than 30 free, ad-supported television (Fast) channels in 18 countries, and content delivery to platforms across the digital media ecosystem.

At Apple TV+, Manfredi served as a head of series marketing and led global marketing strategy and integrated campaigns for acclaimed titles including the Lionsgate Television-produced “The Studio,” which this year earned 23 Emmy nominations (a record for a first-year comedy), as well as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “Shrinking,” “Hijack” and “Chief of War.” He also has held senior marketing roles at AMC Networks and Activision.

The Lionsgate Television Group has named Justin Manfredi as executive vp worldwide TV marketing.

He replaces Suzy Feldman, who joined the studio in 2015 and is retiring after a run overseeing marketing campaigns for hit TV series like Orange is the New Black for Netflix, Ghosts for CBS and the Power franchise for Starz.

Manfredi joins Lionsgate from Apple TV+, where he served as a head of series marketing and oversaw campaigns for the Lionsgate-produced The Studio, Ted Lasso, Severance, Shrinking, Hijack and Chief of War. Manfredi takes the marketing helm at the Lionsgate Television Group, which includes the launch of Fast channels internationally and the sale of series to digital platforms, and will work closely with the studio’s programming, production and sales teams.

The Busan International Film Festival has assembled a heavyweight jury for its newly launched competition section, tapping Korean auteur Na Hong-jin as president alongside six international cinema luminaries for the festival’s landmark 30th edition.

Busan International Film Festival (Biff) has announced the seven members of the jury for its first ever fully fledged competition section, which will be headed by Korean filmmaker Na Hongjin.

The title of the fifth episode of Alien: Earth — "In Space, No One..." — is a direct reference to the tagline of Ridley Scott's 1979 Alien. It makes sense, because this nostalgic hour looks and feels like the film that started it all.

Episode 5, which aired Sept. 2 on FX, takes place aboard the Maginot, two years before Sigourney Weaver's Ripley will come face-to-face with her titular E.T. on the Nostromo. The "Alien" franchise has jumped around in time so much that it can be hard to keep track of it all. The first four films in the series, from Ridley Scott's original through "Alien Resurrection," follow a linear timeline and span about 260 years, with the meat of that time existing between the beginning of "Resurrection" and the end of "Alien 3." "Alien" takes place in the year 2122, "Aliens" occurs nearly 60 years later in 2179, after Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) spends several decades drifting through space in cryosleep, and "Alien 3" essentially takes place right after "Aliens." Then there's a 200-year jump to "Resurrection" in 2379.

After that, though, everything gets a bit more difficult to follow.

Disney Jr. today unveiled its upcoming slate, which includes the greenlight of two new series, Cars: Lightning Racers, inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Oscar-winning Cars films, with the films’ original cast returning to reprise their roles, and Marvel’s Avengers: Mightiest Friends, the first-ever preschool Avengers series.

Additionally, the network handed an early two-season renewal to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+ (seasons 2 and 3). The series — a revival of the 2000s animated staple — debuted July 22 on Disney+ as the biggest original Disney Jr. launch on the platform to date and was also the #1 streaming series in average audience for Kids 2-5 in its premiere week, per Nielsen.

Netflix has announced its first recast for the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Adam Beach will replace Joel Montgrand as the Southern Water Tribe's Chieftain, Hakoda, and the father of Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio). The actor will make his Avatar debut in Season 3, which is currently in production.

Before Netflix's Avatar series was released, Beach was a fan-favorite choice for playing Hakoda. Aside from his work on Law & Order, Beach is known for his roles in Cowboys & Aliens, Windtalkers, and Flags of Our Fathers. He began his acting career in 1990 and quickly made an impression, earning three "Best Actor" awards across major festivals, including the 1995 American Indian Film Festival, First Americans in the Arts Awards, and the 1998 San Diego World Film Festival. In 2009, his performance in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.

We should start by pointing out that there's a very strong chance this is fake; then again, if it were AI generated or a clever counterfit, we'd like to think the creator would have dreamed up something a little more exciting than James Marsden and Benedict Wong having what looks like a simple chat between takes (they don't even appear to be in costume).

The wait for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has already begun, and we can expect to wait a bit longer. Released in 2024, Season 1 condensed the events of the animated series' first book, and Season 2 is said to follow suit with the second. According to the show's newest cast member, Miya Cech, we may be waiting a while for Season 2. In an interview with The Direct, Cech reveals that fans shouldn't expect the show to return before 2026. While she wasn't exactly sure when fans would reunite with Team Avatar, Cech knows that the production team wants to keep expectations realistic. She said:

"Yeah, I mean, personally, I'm not exactly sure. I feel like they're trying to keep our expectations realistic, so I think that we were looking at early 2026 for Season 2, but let's just hope it gets done a little quicker than that."

In the "Star Trek" episode "Assignment: Earth", the Enterprise travels back in time to the year 1968 -- something, it seems, the Enterprise can just do -- for historical research purposes. While in hiding out in orbit, however, Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) detect that someone else nearby is using super-advanced transporter technology, meaning they aren't the only time travelers in the vicinity. Interrupting a transporter signal, the Enterprise beams aboard a handsome and mysterious stranger holding a black cat. This is Gary Seven (Robert Lansing), a time traveler from the 24th century, which is a century beyond from where Kirk came from. 

Gary Seven announces that he is on a mission of his own, and that it is of the utmost importance. It involved taking over control of a nuclear missile, however, so Gary doesn't seem very trustworthy.

Sphere Entertainment, the company behind the Las Vegas Sphere, says that it will launch a “fully immersive” version of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz beginning in August.

The company says it worked with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google and Magnopus to develop a version of The Wizard of Oz that “will maintain the integrity of the original while pushing the boundaries of Sphere’s experiential medium.”

And the company’s Sphere Studios division also says that it is developing a new documentary project called From the Edge, directed by Free Solo Academy Award winners E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. From the Edge will follow five extreme athletes: free diver Alenka Artnik, skier Markus Eder, rock climber Alex Honnold, Base jumper Katie Hansen Lajeunesse and surfer Kai Lenny, using proprietary camera technology.
