Morgan Wade wasn’t trying to write a new record. Especially since her last release, 2023’s Psychopath, the last thing she wanted was to go through the public wringer again. “I was really struggling,” Wade says, calling from a West Virginia parking lot that she’s circling to get cell service. “I was not feeling a connection with it. My record wasn’t talked about, and that really messed with me.”

Morgan Wade’s sophomore album Psychopath has finally arrived.

After much anticipation – the country singer’s been highlighted by several publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Forbes, and more – Wade says she “can finally breathe” now that her record is out.

“The response has been so great already. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” she wrote in an Instagram post Friday. “…I’m very grateful today.”

Morgan Wade is headlong in a kind of love she’s never felt before in “Psychopath,” the first single and title track from the “Wilder Days” artist’s second album. Psychopath the album will be released Aug. 25 via Sony Music Nashville.

“Psychopath” is a gently rising and falling waltz that, contrary to its title, depicts the warm glow of love. “You say I’m a psychopath/sittin’ at the bar drinkin’ my coffee black,” Wade sings, her acoustic guitar joined in short order by some echoing electric guitar and the rest of the band.

This year, Lainey Wilson led the charge with four noms, including Performance of the Year and Female Video of the Year, with three artists tied for second place — Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, and CMT Music Awards co-host Kane Brown.

Brown and his wife, Katelyn, made history Sunday as they became the first-ever married couple to win Video of the Year for their hit “Thank God”.

Jelly Roll took home several awards including — Male Breakthrough Video of the Year.

Across all categories, CMT recognized 21 first-time nominees, with Carrie Underwood, the most awarded artist in CMT history, also earning another nod this year, however, she did not take home the trophy.

Hosted by Brown and Kelsea Ballerini — who was also nominated this year — the CMT Music Awards aired at 8:00 p.m. Et on CBS Sunday from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

For the second year in a row, the three-hour telecast will be getting its premiere network airing on CMT’s big sister network, CBS — along with a livestream on Paramount+ — and for the first time, it will be based out of Austin. Nominations for the 2023 CMT Music Awards were announced Wednesday morning and Lainey Wilson wound up with the most of her contemporaries. The “Heart Like a Truck” singer picked up four nods for the fan-voted event, which is set to air live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on April 2.

Wilson’s nominations were bolstered by her Hardy collaboration “Wait in the Truck,” which is up for Video of the Year, but she also got recognized in the Female Video of the Year category for her own “Heart Like a Truck.

Following her mainstage set at FloydFest last weekend, in front of a raucous crowd of thousands, singer-songwriter Morgan Wade takes a seat on a couch backstage. Between sips of coffee, a slight grin emerges on her face when asked what the performance meant to her.

“I grew up about three miles from here,” the 27-year-old “Wilder Days” singer tells Rolling Stone, “so I was able to get my dad to drop me off today, which was really nice.”
