I love this show. This is my Sunday night tradition, Watching Rosemary and Thyme. I have seen them all and a few times over. I had been waiting patiently for a new season only to find out the show had been canceled by an English company. If there is any way to get them to listen, please do. The 2 actresses playing Rosemany and Laura are wonderful. So believable, and fun to watch. The stories are wonderful also. I am an Agatha Christie fan, and these stories are as good. I am devastated, please make some more episodes. I love the gardens, the stories, and the actresses. There are so few good mystery series on TV now. Especially one, like this show, where you can tell care has been taken to have beautiful scenery, likable characters, interesting plot lines, and not a lot of gratuitous violence. I love it.
...and it has real women in it, Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris, two dynamite actresses.
Rosemary & Thyme is about two women, Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme who are in the gardening business together. Everywhere they go to work, they become involved in a murder mystery.
In order to enjoy the show, you have to accept two conceits. The first is, both these women are incredibly nosy. They come into a situation to fix, put in, or expand a garden and before you know it, they're sneaking around roofs and attics and asking outrageous questions.
The second conceit is that the solutions are sometimes really out there and you wonder how they ever figured them out. Hidden messages on trees, that sort of thing. Wild.
Nevertheless, I like it. Sorry to hear it was canceled.

A few months back I caught this on a repeat and decided I liked it enough to buy the complete collection on DVD - and very glad I did! This series is an excellent light-hearted mystery show suitable for the majority of audiences. I have watched a good deal of crime and mystery television - and while many shows out there are more 'groundbreaking' than Rosemary and Thyme: it must be said that this show is excellent fun - it doesn't take itself seriously and the two main characters: Rosemary Boxer (Felicity Kendal) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris) are great fun to watch and make for an excellent team. It's a huge shame that ITV decided to cancel this series before series 4 began as this was an amazing show and I loved watching every minute of it.
Well this may not be to the taste of everyone but it isn't as dreadful as the previous poster says at all. I think the women gardeners who end up being detectives are believable characters, who use intuition, common sense, keen perceptions of character, as well as their knowledge of horticulture, to solve crimes. This is not a blood and cuts, men shooting at men, plot driven macho show. There are so many shows that are completely plot driven, with high tech effects but the character has no basis in real life that make this gentle show refreshing.
I like this, consider myself well read and educated, etc but I can see not everyone will like everything. It isn't necessary to put it down with such rancor. When I see such unnecessary venom on a review, it makes me wonder if the writer were rejected for a job on the show or was dumped by someone on the show.
So, this is light pleasant fare. When it is on public TV on Mystery night, I watch it. There are a lot worse shows on American TV, no need to dump on this if it isn't to one's taste. And if you like gardening, it is fun.
And I love the way British TV has realistic, believable women who aren't babes in leads.

We have seen just a bit of the second season here in the US. We understand that the series produced a third season and that it has been axed in England. What are the powers that be thinking when they eliminate a program like this? Excellent drama, excellent mystery, excellent actors.
We love this program! There are so many and too many reality series on prime time television and little enough to entertain us without overt violence! This series keeps you on the edge of your seat, all the while entertaining folks to the max. Sponsors love to replace quality shows like this one, with cheap reality shows instead. So sad for the viewing public.

- TriviaOn 12 May 2006, ITV announced that the third series was the last, due to savings. Two stories were in preparation for shooting in Portugal when the ITV Network Centre decided to cancel plans for a fourth series. Carnival hopes that the show might someday be picked up again by another channel.
