Three men and Mahek Chahal

Nayee Padosan review :

Not exactly a remake but more of a tribute to the cult classic Padosan (1968), Nayee Padosan had three young lads vying for their beautiful neighbour played by debutant Mahek Chahal. Rahul Bhatt's 'Madrasi' music teacher character was obviously inspired from Mehmood in Padosan but the guy couldn't match up to the legend's performance in the original.

Nayee Padosan belonged to Mahek Chahal and she looked truly bubbly and charming. Her performance was also much better than her male suitors. Looking elegant in traditional as well as western wear, Mahek was the only reason the film turned out to be a watchable fare.

Unfortunately, the audience compared it to Padosan and that lead to them getting disappointed. Shah Rukh Khan's Chalte Chalte (2003) also gave it hard competition at the ticket windows and the end result was that Nayee Padosan sank at the box office though it was a timepass movie worth a one time watch. I caught it on satellite tv after a few months of theatrical release and liked it. Could've probably worked with the right publicity and release timing.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Okay timepass

This movie was nothing special in itself. Comedy is decent. The cast wasn't really impressive. Songs weren't bad. This is basically an average movie that has nothing too great. It's an okay movie if you just want to loosen up on a Friday evening or something.

Funny, Enjoyable Movie

I heard about this film but didn't pay much attention as the trailer itself wasn't interesting but one day i went to blockbuster videos and rented this movie as it was the only Hindi movie there that i hadn't seen. So after watching this movie i found out that i was wrong for judging it from trailer, this movie is way better than Fun2Shh and way more funnier! You've got to see this movie if u got time, it's a must see for comedy fans. The actress however may not be too interesting simply because she thinks she's all that but other than her the movie was a great laugh and not a waste of my time. So i would advise readers of this page to watch this movie.

Great learning for audience

Nayee Padosan is a story of competition in acquiring love out of which only one gets a victory. It gives a different taste to the audience in the form of capitalistic romance. It explains the economic theory in the following way:

1. As how the market face hurdles, in the same way the love also has many obstacles in the way. This resembles the summary of the film.

2. In business, one has to advertise his product. Similarly, in love, one has to show the hidden feelings out by expressing it in various forms. This is shown in the beginning of the film.

3. Moreover, the stakeholders of the market must be kept happy, otherwise it will create a negative impression. This is shown in the middle of the film.

4. If one fails in the market, he has to look for alternative opportunities which will also involve competitors. This is best presented in the climax of the film.

It is however different from Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat which released just 2 years ago in 2001. In Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, you will find sacrifice as the main component. In contrast, Nayee Padosan makes you laugh and bring 'Unity in Diversity' to the centre as it depicts marriage between persons belonging to different linguistic groups.
