Final Fight: The first Beat em' up to steal Double Dragon's crown.

Final Fight ruled the 2 player beat em' up genre when it was released in 1989. The previous beat em' up king Double Dragon was improved upon in almost every way. Final Fight had better graphics, better music, more fighters, more fighting moves, better locales, better enemies and the list goes on and on.

The 3 fighters in Final Fight had personality which was something Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon didn't have. The 3 Fighters consisted of Cody (boyfriend of Haggar's kidnapped daughter) , Guy (Cody's friend), and Haggar (Mayor of Metro city). Each fighter had a unique fighting style and strengths(another improvement over DD). My personal fave was Cody. I once beat the whole game with Cody without losing a single life.

Guy's advantage is his foot and hand speed.

Haggar's advantage is his powerful attacks and wrestling holds.

Cody's advantage is his equal combination of speed and power, though he isn't quite as fast as Guy or as strong as Haggar. His greatest advantage is his skill with knives and is the only fighter who can stab repeatedly with one. The other 2 fighter's just throw the knives. I've cleared a whole level of thugs with just a knife alone.

BEST HOME VERSION OF FINAL FIGHT: (FINAL FIGHT CD (japanese import) for Sega CD):

The best home version of this classic is for the Sega CD and it's called "Final Fight CD" (the japanese version). You'll need a japanese convertor cartridge to play it though. Final Fight CD has everything the arcade had and better music. There is a USA version but the Blood, liquor bottles, some graffiti and scantily clad women have been edited or taken out completely. Blood is replaced by sweat, Liquor bottles are replaced by milk bottles, Some Graffiti is covered up, and the scantily clad women have been given less revealing clothes. Not to mention the english voice acting is horrible. The japanese version has japanese voices but the actors put more feeling into their acting. Trust me. Get the Japanese version only. Overall Final Fight CD (japanese) for Sega CD is actually better than the arcade.

    Fight Fight!

The Final Fight Series is one of the most unique fighting video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Super Nintendo and Sega CD systems! The characters and backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Final Fight! If you like excellent flying adventure up games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

    Surprisingly easy

I could finished this as soon as I was given it, since I started playing it straight away, but my boyfriend had other ideas. I managed to get to the fifth level (I think), before this arm came over my shoulder and switched it over. The next time I tried to play it, could I get past the fat police guy who had a gun?! Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! And who are we blaming for that? I think I definitely prefer beat-em-up games (or racing, but I'm rubbish at them) to any other, cos if you're in a seriously bad mood, then you get to take all your frustrations out on this. I didn't use the special move button much - to be honest I forgot about it a lot - but it wasn't really necessary, as some simple punches were enough to get rid of the bad guys. Some, sure took a little longer, but they will eventually die.

What I do find bad with these games is the bad guys rarely change. Most of them are easy to dispose of, and it gets slightly boring when they come at you constantly. I hated the guys who looked like chavs (OK, so you Americans aren't gonna know that name - guys who wear hooded tops, hang around street corners, think they're hard, just to generalise it) with names like Jay & Billy I think? They were just too quick to move about for me, as I found it really difficult to move up or down, as the bad guys normally went the opposite way! I did manage to get to the last level of this game, but unfortunately got a game over before getting very far. I could have finished it on my first try, given half a chance though! I enjoyed the game, squealing every time I killed a bad guy, although it does get slightly repetitive. And I liked playing as Cody? He looked GOOD in those jeans! Did I mention I played it on the easiest (very easy) level? I tried the "easy" level, and struggled!

One of the greatest games ever made.

This was the one I remember the most ever when I played it for the first time in a laundromat in my neighborhood on a hot, sunny day YEARS ago. I was utterly flummoxed by the graphics, sound, and game play, and it was one of the most challenging games I ever played; often begging a relative for more quarters to pump into the machine. So throughout all the years of playing video games, this one was the one I played the most. It was just so exciting, beating the even immortal Double Dragon, which was a predecessor to side-scrolling beat'em ups but "Final Fight" was the best out of them all. The sequels that followed were utterly disastrous and unconvincing and "Streets of Rage" were trumping them already. However, there's just no denying that "Final Fight" is the original that can never be topped and will always be fondly remembered than any side-scrolling beat'em up that has come before and after it. It was the game that drove me into fighting games. More so than not, it was also one of the best gaming experiences of my childhood. Love it. Simply just love it.

    A classic game

The best scrolling beat 'em up game... Ever! This game still holds the crown nearly 30 years later. I loved the arcade version. Huge characters taking up a lot of screen, the animation was very detailed for the time. Huge boss characters and a great soundtrack to boot. The best home version was on the Sega Mega-CD as the graphics looked identical to the arcade and even included a new time attack mini game as well. Seems it also had the best music and exclusive new voice acting as well. I still play it on Xbox Live the double impact addition. Still waiting for something to better it!

The Andore characters are an homage to world-famous wrestler André René Roussimoff.
    • Versiones alternativas
In the Japanese intro, when it shows Jessica on the TV screen, she's shown torso only and wearing only a bra for a top. This was altered for all non-Japanese versions to her wearing the red dress we see her in several times later in the game. However, some non-Japanese prints don't even use the alternate outfit and only shows Damnd/Thrasher laughing into the TV screen. The two female characters (Roxy and Poison) do not appear in the US versions of the Super NES and GBA ports. They are replaced by Sid and Billy. Reason for this replacement is due to the "provocative outfits" of the original female characters (Very small tanktop and VERY short shorts). However, the female characters were reinstated for the US Sega CD release, yet their tanktops and shorts were lengthened to cover up more skin. In the home versions, after you break the car. When the guy comes out, he doesn't say "Oh! My God!!" Instead, he says "Oh! My Car!!" Two of the bosses had their names changed in the US version of the Super NES port:Stage 1 boss "Damnd" had his name changed to "Thrasher". Stage 2 boss "Sodom" had his name changed to "Katana". The "Industrial Area" stage is missing in Super NES version due to graphical limitations, yet reinstated in the Sega CD and Game Boy Advance editions.
