20 Best Masked Killers In Movies, Ranked
Image
The popularity of masked killers in horror movies, from classic villains like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers to modern ones like The Grabber in The Black Phone, reveals that viewers find them captivating. Masks give horror movie villains an inhuman quality, turning them into remorseless monsters that cannot be reasoned with, adding to their effectiveness as terrifying characters. The masks worn by iconic masked killers, whether they are a permanent fixture or briefly appear, make them unforgettable and contribute to their status as memorable horror movie villains.

One of the most effective tropes in the horror genre is masked killers, and the success of franchises like Halloween and Friday the 13th proves audiences can't get enough of faceless murderers stalking terrified victims. Horror movie history is littered with unsettling killers who hide their faces behind masks, dating back to the earliest scary films such as Rupert Julian's 1925 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.

Fear Twd Season 7 Premiere Recap: Victor's Ego Trip Claims Its First Victim
Image
In the Season 7 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, Strand leaned so hard into his rediscovered villainy that it was a wonder he didn’t tip over. (And holy crap, did human charisma machine Colman Domingo play it to the hilt; he savored every self-satisfied line as much as his character did his confidence.) It took a minute to get to Victor, though…

First, “The Beacon” introduced us to Will (Dickinson vet Gus Halper), a woebegone twentysomething who looked just about ready to serve himself to a walker when he was apprehended by Strand’s henchmen and introduced to the...

Kim Dickens and Lennie James in Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 Review: The Beacon
Kim Dickens and Lennie James in Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Victor Strand, what are we going to do with you?

Fear the Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 was all about the character who has played in the gray area since the show debuted in 2015.

If you watch Fear the Walking Dead online, you know he's always had the makings of a villain, and "The Beacon" elevated him to full-fledged villain territory.

Thanks to the second apocalypse, there is a new world order, and Strand wants to be a ruthless leader with a thriving community.

His motives are legit. When you think about it, love and connection are weaknesses when you need to make these big decisions, but if anyone can get through to him, it's Alicia.

Alicia looked up to him after the Clark family's erasure, and he knows fine well she's his weakness, so he had to kill Will for her not to stop him on this path to madness.

Watch: Extraordinary Space Mystery Sci-Fi Short Film 'The Beacon'
James Spader and Janine Eser in Alien Hunter (2003)
"I've never seen it on any of the charts." This short film is a must watch for sci-fi geeks! The Beacon is a stunning, exciting space travel short film made by filmmaker Chris Staehler, who also works in the VFX / previz industry in additional to directing. When Kara Verne goes missing on an interstellar shipping run, her husband Mark sets off to the far reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy in search of answers. This short is so damn good it belongs in Netflix's "Love Death & Robots". Starring Damien Kelly and Kylie Contreary, with Eric Snow and Claire Montgomery. Not only are the VFX fantastic, but the story itself is engaging and mysterious. As one YouTube commenter writes: "Why is a 25 minute film made by this company about 10X better than anything Hollywood puts out?... Because these are made based on genuine story writing and art." Indeed. This is an epic,...

In Syfy’s Hunters, Gale Anne Hurd wants to make aliens scary again — and she succeeds
Among her many feature film and television credits, Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) seems to return time and again to the sci-fi and horror genres, and especially to aliens. Hurd notably collaborated with James Cameron to bring to life the nightmarish alien queen of Aliens (1986), and she thinks it’s time to make aliens scary again. That’s part of her stated goal as an executive producer of Syfy’s new series Hunters. Inspired by Whitley Strieber’s novel Alien Hunter, the series, featuring Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), follows a highly classified government organization known as the Exo-Terrorism Unit, which tracks and fights … Continue reading →

Hunters Season 1 Review
Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

If the advertisements for Syfy’s new series Hunters were promising in their silly mish-mash of modern-day terrorism and B-movie monsters, it might not have been exactly because of the premise itself. In retrospect, Hunters piqued my interest because of the quality turn-around the network took with the largely solid first seasons of The Expanse and The Magicians.

I saw a commercial for Hunters during a particularly fun episode of the latter and, I admit, my enthusiasm for the network’s attempted return to Battlestar Galactica-level TV made me ready to consume everything on offer.

The problem with Hunters, then, is a tragically awkward disconnect between a silly premise (alien terrorists) and aggressively dour tone, one that’s only exacerbated by particularly lame world-building. It’s got the case-of-the-week camp vibe of the Warehouse 13 era, but showrunner Natalie Chaidez overly course-corrects...

The cable network’s top executives won’t say this in such blunt language, but they acknowledge that somewhere along the line, the network missed an opportunity to have more great scripted dramas. It happened sometime after the name change from Sci Fi Channel to Syfy and the conclusion of Battlestar Galactica—the acclaimed series that was once mentioned by critics alongside titles like Mad Men and The Sopranos as representing TV's top-tier of storytelling. Once the weary Battlestar crew decided to settle on Earth in the show’s 2009 series finale,...

Syfy developing novel adaptation Hunters with The Walking Dead producer
Fans of the Alien Hunter novel rejoice, it’s getting a TV version called Hunter with a The Walking Dead producer…

Syfy (Dominion, Helix, formerly Battlestar Galacticia) is looking to invest even more in geeky programming it would seem – news today broke that they’re working on a new series based on the best-selling novel Alien Hunter by Whitley Strieber.

Strieber is a prolific author, whose work has previously been adapted thrice for the big screen – Wolfen, The Hunger and Communion (all in the 1980s) were the resultant films.

The new show will be titled Hunters, and will run for thirteen episodes. Gale Anne Hurd, an executive producer for The Walking Dead, is on board to produce the show, which should premiere in 2016.

The novel centred around a cop disappearing in Philadelphia and the existence of a covert government team hunting for extra-terrestrial terrorists. It will be adapted for screen by Heroes’ Natalie Chaidez.

Alien Hunter Ordered to Series by Syfy
Syfy has just ordered Alien Hunter to season/series. The network is looking to grow their own original dramas and know that shows wrapped around the supernatural succeed. The end of the world based series that shows aliens as terrorist taking over will be a good start for the network. Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd of The Walking Dead is working with Natalie Chaidez on the Whitley Strieber inspired show. Syfy ordered up a first season batch of 13 episodes (a nice play on supernatural) and will premier in 2016. Here is what Syfy had to say about the order of the series.

We were so impressed by the pilot script from this outstanding and accomplished creative team led by Gale Anne Hurd and Natalie Chaidez that we bypassed the traditional process and greenlit Hunters directly to series….This fast-paced and innovative program takes viewers inside a chilling yet all too familiar world.

Barack Obama
Who would better protect the nation from aliens? Obama or Romney?
Barack Obama
That oft-discussed 3 a.m. phone call just got a supernatural twist.

National Geographic recently conducted a poll asking 1,114 Americans who they felt was better suited to handle an alien invasion as president: President Obama or Mitt Romney. Surprisingly (?) 65 percent picked the current president as the leader who they would most want handling that extraterrestrial encounter. Sadly, outer space lover and moon-enthusiast Newt Gingrich was left off the potential choices.

Let’s look at the facts: President Obama is a well-known fan of Star Trek, which definitely helps his case. While some critics call Romney robot-like — which you would think would...

Top 10: Aliens on Earth movies
With Men in Black 3 hitting UK cinemas this week we thought we’d take a look back through cinematic history at some other movies featuring other-worldy beings here on planet earth and compile a Top 10 of the very best.

1) E.T. (1982)

The grand-daddy of aliens on Earth movies, Steven Spielberg’s E.T. is a classic example of the space alien movie in which a meek and alienated little boy finds a stranded extraterrestrial and has to find the courage to defy the authorities to help the alien return to its home planet.

If E.T. is an example of a good alien-human meeting then John Carpenter’s They Live is the exact opposite as a drifter, played by wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, discovers a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the fact that aliens have taken over Earth.

3) The Blob (1988)

1988 was a good year for alien invasion movies,...
