Grafting a gangster plot onto porn is old-hat, but this time killer is among the worst. The idiot who got paid to write notes for the Something Weird reissue on Vol. 22 of its Dragon Art Theatre Series should be shot for trying to make this one sound good.
Scenes are presented in random order so it's a bit difficult to follow (!), but basic plot is merely about a songwriter named Jack whose $17,000 debt has recently been transferred (this is before credit swaps & derivatives, folks) to mobster/pornographer Adam Kasabian, who wants it repaid pronto. He sends two retarded henchmen to keep tabs on Jack, but they while away the rest of the film hanging out at a whorehouse named the Pleasure Dome, getting their rocks off at $50 a pop.
Our dear demented Something Weird scribe compares the duo's dialog patter to PULP FICTION, but the banter they improvise is sheer drivel. Actor playing gangster Adam likes to bark out orders, whether to his underlings or to the hapless professional porn thesps who are having sex in the movies we see him shooting in his home. Editing is completely arbitrary and always confusing, so it's hard to figure out what context to the sex is intended, but I'd bet no one is trying to achieve any Brechtian distanciation.
The final minutes of the DVD-R are a mish-mash of repeated scenes already shown early on, fake ejaculation shots and a repeat of Stevie Wonder's own recording of "Superstition" which started the film off. It's one of the crummiest, most shredded conclusions to a film/video I've ever suffered through.
With dull sex footage, its general level of incoherence, and execrable technical credits, MOB JOB is a true endurance test. That the filmmakers pirated such an incredible array of great pop music (see IMDb's Soundtrack listing here) shows immense chutzpah.
