While they did not release exactly the same weekend, this summer has seen a major superhero movie battle between Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The former hit movie theaters on July 11 and opened to an impressive $125 million. To date, Superman has grossed $551.3 million worldwide.

Then came the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps two weeks later on July 25. That Marvel movie nearly matched Superman's opening, making $117.6 million. Now, it has amassed $367.4 million worldwide, but its total is still growing. Both films also received strong reviews from both critics and audiences.

The prominence of these movies in theaters has led to increased interest in similar titles at home. Many people have been watching previous Fantastic Four movies, for example, preceding the McU's reboot. The Incredibles, a Pixar film often compared to Fantastic Four, is also trending on Disney+. Now, a movie more comparable to Superman is doing well on streaming.

2003's Thirteen revealed why Evie (Nikki Reed) betrayed Tracy (Evan Rachel Wood) in the movie's ending, and it is for a chaotic reason. The psychological teen drama movie follows the story of 13-year-old Tracy as she navigates a dangerous life of sex, drugs, and missing school after being influenced by her newfound friend, Evie.

The Fantastic Four are amongst the most important comic book characters of all time, foundational pillars of what would become Marvel Comics, and some of the most powerful and popular characters in the Marvel Universe. Yet they've had some very bad luck when it comes to feature film adaptations, with three attempts (plus a fourth one that was never released) that have failed to really make an impact or properly capture what makes the original characters fun — even if the 2005 film is not that bad!

Now, Marvel Studios hopes the fourth time is the charm, and it seems to be working. "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is a vastly different take than the last three movies, and also different from any recent Marvel movie. Though it chooses style over substance, the style is so distinct and unique that it makes this a fascinating superhero movie.

"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" brings Marvel's first family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time and gives us the best version of the blue-clad superhero team that the big screen has ever seen, thanks to superb performances from Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby (the real Mvp), Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. Of course, that doesn't mean every aspect of the Marvel Studios movie is perfect. In fact, the movie has a major villain problem in the form of the planet-devouring Galactus. 

The Marvel villain, portrayed by "The Witch" star Ralph Ineson, may be too big of a threat for the Fantastic Four to face for their first MCU outing (a symptom of a lot of 2000s-era superhero movies). While there have certainly been plenty of bad comic book movies, no other franchise has had worse luck than the Fantastic Four. Pixar's "The Incredibles" was often considered the best adaptation of Marvel's first family because every attempt to make them big screen stars was met with less-than-stellar reception. It appears that Marvel Studios, in its effort to revive its momentum, might have done the impossible, giving Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, the Human Torch, and the Thing the movie they've always deserved with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." /Film's Witney Seibold praised the refreshingly hopeful team dynamic in his glowing review. Pedro Pascal has opened up about his experience working on DC's Wonder Woman 1984. The Fantastic Four actor revealed one key part of his role left him feeling 'appalled'.

Appearing with his Fantastic Four co-star Vanessa Kirby on LADbible Entertainment's Agree to Disagree, Pascal talked about going clean-shaven for the role of Maxwell Lord in Patty Jenkins' panned Wonder Woman sequel. Historically, Fantastic Four is one of Marvel’s biggest properties, but adapting the quartet to the big screen has been, well, challenging. Often referred to as Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four finally make their MCU debut (sort of) with this new adventure, the third iteration of the characters, following their previous appearances in the 2005 and 2015 movies. Disney is known for releasing numerous hit franchise films. These include, of course, various Pixar movies, which boast franchises including Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles. These animated films tend to be extremely successful at the box office when they hit theaters.

In the past decade, Disney appears to be focusing more heavily on their live-action works than in previous times. Most prominently, this includes live-action adaptations of existing animated films. Just this year, the studio released live-action adaptations of Lilo & Stitch and Snow White, the former of which has been a huge box office hit.

As much as the company focuses on theatrical features, the producer has also distributed a number of Disney Channel and streaming-only titles. This includes the Descendants franchise, which began as a Disney Channel original movie in 2015. A new Descendants movie is currently in the works.
