Fyre Festival Founder Billy McFarland Arrested for Fraud
Ja Rule in Masacre en la cárcel 13 (2005)
Update: The promoter of a failed Bahamas music festival has been freed on bail a day after he was arrested on a fraud charge.

Billy McFarland left Manhattan federal court Saturday with Assistant Federal Defender Sabrina Shroff.

McFarland was charged Friday with scheming to defraud investors in his company, Fyre Media. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Billy McFarland, the founder of the disastrous Fyre Festival, has been arrested and charged with wire fraud, the Department of Justice said Friday.

Prosecutors allege McFarland, 25, used false information to get at least two individuals to invest $1.2 million in the Fyre Festival, which was supposed to take place over two weekends in the Bahamas.

Bella Hadid Addresses Fyre Festival Debacle After Organizers Apologize: I 'Trusted This Would Be An Amazing' Experience
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid had no idea what she was getting herself into when she agreed to promote Fyre Festival.

The 19-year-old supermodel -- who was one of several models to participate in photo shoots and promotions for the event -- took to Twitter on Saturday to explain that she was unaware of "the disaster that was to come."

"I just wanted to address Fyre Festival...Even though this was not my project what so ever, nor was I informed about the production or process of the festival in any shape or form, I do know that it has always been out of great intent and they truly wanted all of us to have the time of our lives," Hadid wrote.

5 Things Happening in the World of Pro Wrestling
1.This Saturday, Cm Punk makes his Ufc debut as he faces off against Mickey Gall at Ufc 203 on pay per view. While I honestly will be shocked if he makes it out of the first round, I applaud him for following his dreams and wish him the best on his Mma debut. Entering the sport of Mma at his age (and I hate saying that because I am older than him.) is a pretty difficult task, not even taking into account the various injuries he’s sustained over the years as a wrestler. Whether this is his only Mma match or if he’s able to make a go at it, he’s a living example of not caring about any obstacle that prevents you from achieving your dream.

2.Billy Corgan posted a video on the Smashing Pumpkins Facebook page discussing some of the recent activity at Tna. He confirmed...

WWE Raw: 8 Things To Expect Tonight (March 14)
WWE.com

If one word can be used to sum up Saturday night’s Roadblock, inconsequential could well be it. As good as the in-ring action largely was, the show seemed nothing more than filler before the WrestleMania build kicks off in earnest.

Fortunately, as if making up for their booking last week, WWE have set out a stacked Raw tonight. As well as the confirmed appearances of Triple H, Shane McMahon, Undertaker, and Brock Lesnar, we could also have a few surprises in store – with one WWE legend reportedly confirmed, and another beloved superstar potentially tagging along for the ride.

With so many storylines unfolding (and criss-crossing) before us, tonight’s show has the potential to be spectacular, or an utter disaster (or perhaps even a spectacular disaster). It must surely be considered required viewing.

Here are the biggest incidents to keep an eye out for…

15 Most Shocking WrestleMania Moments Of All Time
Don Feria/AP

For over three decades, WrestleMania has provided WWE with countless memorable moments but for the most part, they were expected. Hulk Hogan defeating Andre The Giant, Stone Cold defeating Shawn Michaels to win his first WWE title, Daniel Bryan getting his happy ending at WrestleMania 30. They were still incredible, but at the beginning of the night, it was easy to predict that they would happen.

The truly shocking WrestleMania moments are actually few and far between. On the grandest stage of them all, the creative team plays it safe for the most part.

While we wait for the next shocking moment at WrestleMania, let’s take a look at the 15 most shocking moments from the first 31..

10 Best WWE In Your House Matches Ever
WWE.com

May, 1995 was the month when the then-World Wrestling Federation decided to go monthly with their pay-per-view specials. The previous year, only Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, King Of The Ring, SummerSlam and Survivor Series had been on PPV, but they were soon joined by the In Your House series. This allowed Vince McMahon to offer fans cut-price events which would help fill in the gaps between the major shows.

Over time, the idea of monthly pay-per-view would prove to be a success, but it’d take the WWF audience a while to warm up to the concept. The cheaper In Your House shows were two hours in length, shorter than the three afforded to the regular supershows. They came across as lower rent too, but that didn’t mean there couldn’t be awesome matches for fans who did tune in to enjoy.

Eventually, the In Your House branding lessened,...

WWE 2K17: 10 Potential Showcase Modes
2K

The featured Stone Cold Steve Austin mode has arguably been the biggest selling point of WWE 2K16.

When 2K announced the news of the Texas Rattlesnake being the headline feature of the new game, expectations were rightfully low due to how incomplete the Showcase Modes in 2015 felt.

While the old game skimmed over a few major rivalries, 2K16’s choice to focus on one subject paid dividends. We got everything we could have hoped for and more as Austin’s days as part of WCW, Ecw, and all the major talking points of his WWE run were covered.

The video packages put together for the opening of each chapter were fantastic, they felt like feature length films in their own right. The cut scenes that saw you replicate certain memorable spots during each of Stone Cold’s main event run matches were epic. The way 2K recreated the spot...

Ranking Every World Title Match To Take Place On New Year’s Raws
WWE.com

Arguably, WWE kicked off their 2016 on a high note with a entertaining edition of Raw featuring the return of Chris Jericho, excellent in-ring action, and most notably a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match in the main event. Roman Reigns defended his newly won title against the former champ Sheamus with Mr. McMahon serving as the special guest referee; of course, WWE stacked the deck against Reigns to give viewers the impression there was a chance he could lose the title, which would therefore lead to a ratings boost.

Ultimately, it paid off: the Raw rating was up from the week prior and the events that transpired during the title match set the stage for what is to come in the Royal Rumble match.

It isn’t out of the ordinary for WWE to host championship matches on their premier episode in the new year, however, as it has...

5 Ways Kurt Angle’s Return Would Revolutionise WWE
WWE.com

Future WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle, has been on a near 10-year hiatus from the McMahon clan since he was granted his release in 2006, citing health reasons. Tna was quick to snatch him off the market by flaunting him with a slimmed down schedule and a promise to keep him at the top of their ranks.

Now, as we transition towards accepting the WWE’s stars of tomorrow, it’s hard to overlook how much nostalgia has helped to further the development of the modern-day product. While swimming in dismal television ratings, it’s time for WWE to send their universe into a frenzy by making some calls beyond the usual suspects.

Kurt Angle is a guy we all love to hate. He’s done it all in Tna on a schedule he could only have dreamt of during his WWE run. But frankly, as The Rock...

10 Brock Lesnar WWE Matches We Still Need To See
WWE.com

When Brock Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012, he immediately entered into a feud with John Cena, setting up a dream match. The two had clashed once before – at Backlash 2003 – but that was before Lesnar became Ufc Heavyweight Champion and Cena became WWE’s franchise player. The resulting bout was excellent, not only for the action, but for delivering a battle fans never thought they’d see when each man was dominating his own realm.

Lesnar then entered into a feud with Triple H – whom he had never wrestled in his original run with WWE – defeated Cm Punk, and delivered a classic with Cena and Seth Rollins. Oh, and he ended The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak. The past three and a half years have been very interesting (at least when “The Beast” is around), and his contract guarantees that he’ll be a part of WWE through WrestleMania Xxxiv.

WWE 2K16: 10 Stone Cold Steve Austin Matches They Overlooked
wwe.com / 2K

WWE 2K16 is less than a month away, and a post on the 2K forums has revealed the confirmed Stone Cold Steve Austin matches in 2K Showcase Austin mode.

There’s some classics in there, no doubt about that. Getting to play through Austin’s epic feud with Bret Hart that culminated at WrestleMania 13, and his unforgettable match with The Rock at WrestleMania 17, it is going to be a nostalgic rollercoaster of excitement.

But there’s also a range of classics that 2K have neglected to include. Some of the omissions are forced on 2K, as not every wrestler from the period is under a WWE contract or were available for the game. Other omissions are blatant oversights, but at least the overall quality of the Austin content looks good.

The matches to be included are-

vs. Pillman – Clash Of The Champions Xxv

vs. Steamboat – Bash At The Beach ’94

WWE 2K16: New Raise Some Hell Trailer Released
2K, IGN

IGN has released the latest trailer for WWE 2K16, titled Raise Some Hell.

The trailer – which, uses Audioslave’s Cochise as its backing track – features almost every superstar in the game, gives us a quick run through of the Stone Cold Steve Austin mode, and also appears to show what Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator entrances will look like.

One sees Arnie rising out of the staging area (almost naked but not quite), while the other sees him arrive on the scene looking like a latecomer to an Undertaker biker party circa 2001.

The other main talking point is a D-Generation X bit where both Shawn Michaels and Triple H are in the ring. This presumably as part of the Stone Cold mode when Austin took on The Heartbreak Kid at WrestleMania Xiv.

As for the Austin mode, we see Steve grappling with the likes of Mr McMahon, Dude Love,...

John Cena To Face Brock Lesnar For Fourth Time In Under Three Years
wwe.com

John Cena was victorious over Randy Orton at Hell In A Cell, cleanly winning the cell encounter in twenty six minutes with an AA through a table. As the match was a number one contender battle, it now means Cena has won the right to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. Instantly, this has turned into a big talking point for fans – in the less than three years Brock has been back with WWE, he will have faced Cena on four occasions.

In the bigger picture, Brock has also faced Triple H on three occasions since returning. That means seven overall Brock matches against either Cena or Triple H. Fans are rightly asking, is this really the best use of a talent on a minimum dates $5 million a year contract? It looks more like WWE have simply used Brock’s drawing power to give their golden boys a rub.

‘WWE: Wrestling’s Greatest Factions’ DVD Review
The world of professional wrestling has, for many years, featured hundreds of various alliances, groups of men and women who, for countless reasons, teamed together in order to achieve something that they would be unable to achieve alone. Be it a group of good guys sticking together, as friends, to take down the heels, or the bad guys forming a gang as a way to intimidate, attack and overthrow the babyfaces. It has worked for decades and continues to this very day, with factions such as The Shield and The Wyatt Family (oh… and don’t forget 3Mb) running rough-shot through WWE on their way to super-stardom. But, like I said, factions aren’t a new thing, they’ve been around for as long as steel folding chairs, brittle announce tables and sneaky managers, and this release is WWE’s look at some of the standout factions that have firmly...

WWE Extreme Rules: 10 Matches It Could Set Up For The Future
WWE.com

How do you follow an event like WrestleMania XXX? After a show that gave us so many emotional highs and lows, shock and elation, it’s best to go another way entirely. An extreme way.

While I enjoyed the idea behind the Backlash PPV – tying up loose ends after WrestleMania, in less of a pressure cooker than the Grand Daddy of Them All – I think the Extreme Rules idea is even better. It doesn’t need to compete with the energy of WrestleMania, because Extreme Rules exists on a different plane entirely. We turn to Extreme Rules for hard-core wrestling thrills. Gimmicks and violence that are more rarely showcased, trotted out for our perverse pleasure.

While this year’s card looks less hard-core, more intense, everyone is talking about the changing of the guard. The Shield, Cesaro, Rusev, and Wyatt. Bad News Barrett and Paige. All highly-lauded by the fans,...

WWE Network: Does Another Free Trial Week Suggest Desperation?
wwe.com

April 2014 has been quite the momentous month for the WWE. In the course of just a week Bryan Daniel was crowned the unified World Champion at the main event of Wrestlemania, the Ultimate Warrior mended fences with Vince McMahon only to tragically pass away the next day from a heart attack, and the legendary Undertaker Wrestlemania streak was broken by former Ufc Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. WWE also announced their post-Wrestlemania subscriber number (667,287) which was met with immediately rapid drop in the $WWE stock price (shares went from $28-$30 in the week before Wrestlemania to $20-$24 since the number was announced).

Yesterday, news broke on two subjects: (a) DirecTV had decided to stop carrying WWE PPVs going forward and (b) WWE was offering another Free Trial week of the WWE Network.

Directv

Regarding DirecTV and WWE, this isn’t the first time the two companies had butted heads.

WWE: 10 Wrestlers Who Far Exceeded Expectations
flickr

When a new wrestler makes it into the big leagues of the WWE, there’s always a level of anticipation and a degree of expectation on them and what they’ll achieve during their career.

A lot of wrestlers have had a ton of expectation on their shoulders, being labelled the ’next big thing’, only to have crumbled under the weight or by not quite living up to the hype.

On the flip side, there’s WWE stars who begin their careers without the same fanfare and backing, but go on to have tremendous careers, comebacks, matches and more. Some wrestlers have achieved more than ever anticipated, reaching higher levels of popularity, success and achievement than first thought; blowing everyone’s expectations of what they’d become out of the water, going on to be the celebrated stars that they are today.

Here’s my list of ten wrestlers...

WWE: 7 Things You Won’t Believe Wrestlers Actually Wrestled
www.411mania.com

Some people happen to take Professional Wrestling a bit too seriously at times, forgetting that the business is based on a foundation of fun and creativity. After all, wrestling did take place at a lot of circuses and carnival grounds, proving that everyone in the business are really just carnies at heart!

However, sometimes there comes a match that really throws a wrench in the gears of the business, doing something so outlandish and out-of-the-ordinary that it makes everyone, even non-wrestling fans, stop and take notice. From wrestling inanimate objects in the Far East to challenging God himself, to tangling with wild animals to battling opponents that haven’t even hit puberty yet.

These are seven things you will not believe wrestlers actually competed against in the ring.

7. Head

Did you know that Head actually wrestled for WWE once? At King of the Ring ’98, in a Tag Team...

10 WrestleMania Decisions WWE Should Regret
AP/Press Association Images

We all make mistakes in life. That’s just a part of living and growing as people. You know who else makes mistakes? World Wrestling Entertainment. They sure do. Some of those mistakes also involve a show they run every year called WrestleMania. You might have heard of it. It’s kind of a big deal.

The mistakes that WWE can make surrounding a WrestleMania can be vast. There are 29 WrestleMania events to pick from, so it’s difficult to narrow it down to just 10 of the worst decisions they have made over the years.

Before I get to it, here are a couple of things that some people think are mistakes, but I can understand why WWE did it.

WrestleMania 8 main event – A lot of people think Flair vs. Savage should have went on last. The reason it didn’t is because WWE brought back...

WWE: Top 10 Tag Teams Of The Attitude Era
In recent times, the WWE has been rejuvenating a tag team division that had been largely ignored or poorly booked for many years.

But the ‘Attitude Era’ was somewhat of a golden age for tag team wrestling, and I’m here to run down the Top 10 teams of that period. Teams were stars of the show just as much as some of the main event wrestlers, in all sorts of shapes, sizes and gimmicks.

The exact start and ending times of the Attitude Era are largely undefined and often the matter of opinion, but for the purposes of list, I will be looking at teams from WrestleMania Xiv in 1998 to the beginning of the Invasion angle in mid 2001.

The list will have more emphasis on actual duos of tag team “specialists” rather than teams of main event stars put together, although teams of the latter do feature. The various teams...

Backlash Against WWE Network Begins
The boldness of the WWE Network has initially sparked excitement, but the backlash toward the move has already started. People don’t like change in life, especially when the tradition has mostly worked as a money making model – some of WWE’s long standing relationships are under threat from the Network transition.

The first major partner to voice concern is PPV provided DirecTv. WWE had pressed the idea that PPV would still be available by traditional means for those who did not want to subscribe to the Network. DirecTv has now came out and contradicted this.

“Clearly, we need to quickly re-evaluate the economics and viability of their business with us, as it now appears the WWE feels they do not need their PPV distributors.” a DirecTv statement to the Los Angeles Times reveals. The company goes on to say that WWE buy numbers have been in decline for some time,...

Mindy Newell: For Kim And John, From The Heart
So Saturday, I’m sitting in the kitchen, my feet up on the table, sipping my morning tea, and flipping through the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly. It’s the one with Hugh Jackman on the cover as Wolverine, dated May 31/June 7 2013.

I’m on page 32, the “Monitor” section, and there’s nothing there really of interest for me, a headline splashing a “Bieber Backlash” – about time – and an announcement under “Splits” that Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame have broken up again – duh, I saw that one coming once the last fanfare of Breaking Dawn was done – and then I see a little inset on the bottom left that boldly reads “turn the page and open the flaps for EW’s pick of the 25 greatest superheroes ever” (with “plus the 5 worst” in a shaded grey, and a little arrow pointing to a big advertising spread for a TNT show called Hero.

Four signs WWE doesn’t care about tradition
For years, there have been signs that the WWE puts less importance on tradition and more on “what’s best for business.” Year after year, traditions have been sacrificed to sell out t-shirts and get better PPV buyrates. But traditions are the things that mean most to hardcore and faithful wrestling fans.

Here are just four – of many – instances that show that the WWE is losing sight of the traditions that have built up the company – and its fan base – for decades.

1. Pay-per-view name changes and drops

Lots of WWE pay-per-views that have been ongoing for nearly a decade have been dropped in favor of “themed” pay-per-views. Pay-per-views such as Backlash, Armageddon and No Mercy have been discontinued to make room for Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber and TLC ppvs. I guess letting ppv buyers know what kind of matches they’re in for should mean better buys, but...

The Rock: His 10 Best WWE Moments
As one of the most popular wrestlers ever, The Rock has been electrifying audiences since his debut at Survivor Series 1996 and for the next seven years the Great One reached heights only enjoyed by the likes of Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold.

When he arrived in ’96 Rocky was met with cries of ‘Die Rocky Die’. Who knew that the green third generation star would become an eight-time WWE Champion?

Here are the top ten moments during The Rock’s time in the WWE.

10. ‘But My Name’s Billy’

We’ll start with one of the most famous Rock promos. Let’s be honest, there are plenty of quotes I could have included on this list but where better to start than the promo that almost single-handedly killed off Mr Ass’s solo push.

As Summerslam ’99 approached The Rock was going through a rare phase – the WWF didn’t know what to do with him.

WWE: 20 Best Moments in WWE Raw History
After last week’s Raw 1,000th – here’s our Top 20 Moments in WWE Raw history…

20. Evolution turns on Randy Orton

Randy Orton was on a roll in 2004. He was blazing a trail as the “Legend Killer,” making a name for himself at the expense of some wrestling legends. Orton had people on his list like Harley Race, Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam, then made a huge step forward to main event status after a career defining match against Mick Foley at Backlash 2004. This was the start of a run towards the World Heavyweight Title, which Randy won at Summerslam from Chris Benoit, becoming the Youngest World Heavyweight Champion in the process.

After winning the title, Benoit showed Orton some respect by shaking his hand and congratulating his ability to step up to the plate. The following night on Raw, Evolution also congratulated Orton for bringing the title back into the group.

Brock Lesnar vs John Cena – This Date in WWE History
Ladies and Gentlemen, on this date nine years ago, John Cena faced off against Brock Lesnar for his WWE championship belt. The Pay-Per-View was Backlash 2003 and as the pair are about to clash in Sunday’s big main event at WWE Extreme Rules, the irony is rather freaky. On that day a villainous John Cena walked into the match facing against ”The Next Big Thing”. This was after Cena won a tournament following WrestleMania Xix to be crowned the number one contender.

John Cena defeated legends Eddie Guerrero, The Undertaker and Chris Benoit to earn him the title spot at Backlash for Lesnar’s WWE title.

It’s funny comparing things then to now. The scenarios really aren’t all that different, they’re interesting to say the least. These two men face each other this Sunday at WWE Extreme rules, but this time will John Cena be the one walking out the one victorious?...

The Rock’s 10 Greatest WWE Matches
This week, WWE dropped the bombshell that The Rock would be returning to the ring at November’s Survivor Series PPV event for his first match since 2004. Not since the “Rock and Sock Connection” put over “Evolution” at Wrestlemania Xx has The Rock been in a competitive match. And not since then has he sported that questionable goatee.

At next year’s Wrestlemania, The Rock will step in the ring with John Cena as his opponent in what has been dubbed a ‘dream match’. Come November however, the two will be partners as early WWE advertising points towards them teaming up in a 5 on 5 Survivor Series Elimination Match. So what better time than now to examine the best matches “The People’s Champion” has ever had.

Here’s ten of the best from The Rock’s wrestling career.

10. The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin III – Wrestlemania 19

The Rock of...

Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
'American Idol' on the scene for Top 5 performance night: The details on Jennifer Lopez's hot-hot-hot (and hidden) heels!
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
The top of tonight’s American Idol telecast was slightly altered from the way the show usually opens: The three judges were already sitting when Ryan introduced them, whereas Idol’s announcer usually gives the trio a proper introduction as they walk out from behind the big screen on the stage. Did you notice that change at all? Maybe it mattered none to you all out there who were watching on TV, but as someone who was in the Idoldome, I will tell you for sure that you missed a glimpse of something very important because of the seemingly harmless alteration: J.

'Gossip Girl': Is Chuck Bass abusive? E.P. says no; we beg to differ
On Monday (May 2) night's episode of "Gossip Girl," Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) wasn't really feeling like himself. He was sporting "I'm-on-a-bender" facial hair at the beginning of the episode, and wacky camera angles were used to create a disorienting feeling during all of his scenes.

We've seen Chuck's dark side before (not that he has any particularly light sides), but in one of the final scenes of the episode, he went particularly off the rails.

After humiliating Blair (Leighton Meester) by crudely airing details of their sex life to a woman she was trying to impress, Chuck went home to continue to drink himself into a stupor. Blair met him there to tell him that the Prince had proposed to her. She wasn't malicious or intending to use the revelation to hurt him. She was just asking that he acknowledge reality. Considering his behavior at the party, she was surprisingly gentle with him.

It's still going on, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon: It's the Great Taylor Swift Backlash Debate, and it continues to rage among MTVNews.com readers.

It all started Tuesday when we published our "Why You Shouldn't Hate on Taylor Swift" article, a response to the backlash following Swift's Album of the Year win and performance with Stevie Nicks at the Grammys. The story was greeted with such response that we published a second article, this one letting the T.Swift haters of the world have their say.

Their voices were so strong that we figured we should let some of Swift's supporters have the floor too, and judging from the comments that story got, we figured both sides weren't going to be losing steam anytime soon.
