A totally effeminate fat guy with a really bad mullet wig and sweat, visits his invalid grandmother and there's a bunch of brains in the basement.
Turns out grandma is a Nazi nurse an has Himmel's brain. What?
The grandma is known for her silent film work and my my has time brought her beauty to a halt since she worked with Buster Keaton. Anita must have needed the bucks big time. She cant act. Her delivery is a bit like the egg lady in the John Waters films. And the fat gay guy is sort of like Divine to be honest.
It's that bad, only it's not as good as Waters. No where near. Even if you think that it's meant to be funny and campy, it's still way bad. Waters had a knack for this genre, this director doesn't. It's really horrible in every way.
As an aside, Grandma Anita made a flurry of films in the late 20s - early/mid 30's and then did not made another movie for 30 years. After that, she didn't make another for another 30 years when she did some really bad horror films, including this one.
She was once called the The Girl With the Most Beautiful Face in Hollywood. You wouldn't know it by the look of her pan in this flick.
The Crawling Brain, evil incarnate (well kinda-sorta), soon to wreak havoc on the weak- minded of the world (watch out Hollywood!).
And hopefully, it will be the next big thing for a very talented film maker.
Ron Ford, may you be blessed with a big budget...very soon!
The plot? The disembodied brain of an escaped Nazi scientist manipulates two brothers to do its dirty work: find suitable bodies!
As light as it is, you'll find yourself wondering what's going to happen next. Arguably for some, it might run a little long - but where would you cut? Like the classics, this film has a good story with some scenes that stand on their own. The beginning is like a mini-movie and stars a sexy young woman sunbathing (no guy would want the editor to cut this scene). After this opening, we see a very creative POV from the brain, and this film continues to entertain.
One nice surprise is its campy humor. For example, Randal Malone slightly reminds me of Divine (a big star in many of John Waters' films) and his performance keeps us smiling - and guessing if his character will live.
We all know that brains don't really crawl around - or do they? For a fun adventure, see this film.
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaRandal Malone was Anita Page's caregiver, explaining how she ended up in this movie as well as Witchcraft XI.
