I saw this movie today.I must say this is bearable and okay.Story is good.It tells about Kapoor family who has 3 girls and 1 son.One day Vijay comes across Rajesh. What he does not knows that Rajesh wants to capture his wealth and for that he marries his daughter. Then a problem occurs in his company. He screams at his son.His son leaves him. Then Rajesh captures hiss wealth. He closes his company. He is sick. Then his son returns.A good story. The very handsome Mohnish Behl who plays Rajesh overacts miserably.Karishma who looks gorgeous as ever in the movie gives an annoying performance in an unusual character.Juhi looks very pretty in this movie and is strictly OK here. The other 2 are okay also.Rakhee who looks good in the movie is wasted.Aashish is OK too.The movie belongs To Akshay and Amtabh who give great performances. The bond was beautiful.Their performances were more deserving than Shah Rukh Khan in K3G.Aamir in Lagaan or Amtabh in K3G.Their acting was the best of that year.Shakti Kapor was irritating. The music by Nadeem Shravan is good and catchy and not to forget melodious.Watch this for the Amtabh and Akshay who give great performances Rating-5/10
The movie starts off quite well with excellent restrained performances by full cast including Amitabh and Akshay. The Amitabh fits prefectly in his role of a self-made, high-profile, hard-working buisnessman. Akshay deviating from his usual action/slap-stick-comedy roles, has done a commendable job as well educated, new generation son of Amitabh. The first half of the movie is good with well written script and good characterization.
Its the second half of the movie that reduces it to just another typical bollywood drama with loud acting, unrealistic situations and too predictable happy ending.
So overall 6 out of 10.

A family drama, where all characters appealing to real lives of people. It's a family where there is an ideal father, a loving and caring mother, an obedient son, two decent daughters, a responsible uncle and lastly the greedy son in law. As you could imagine by now, who is the villain and opposite of that the obedient son stands as the hero. The son in law is the trouboe maker in the film succeeds in creating misunderstandings in the family and earns a huge but non lasting fortune through betrayal. The film ends in the undoing of his wrong deed.
There are many strong plotholes in the movie, not on the contents and performance but in presentations. The performances are supposedly the bright part of the film esp Big B and Akshay. The narration style is average though. The spirit of the movie is retained by the performances including Ashish Vidyarthi and Shakti Kapoor is good to watch in positive role. But the continuous BGM makes the film annoying instead of turning it emotional. Sometimes emotions also feel impractical.
Few flaws like ---- Father and Son misunderstand as if they are strangers. And that too in front of others. Its unreal, immatured and dramatised heavily. Akshay was quarreling with the villain while his pregnant wife is in hospital, which seems very filmy and impractical as the protagony. (3)The management of money was an important point, but is loosely shown. Sentiments regarding it is shown instead. (4)The apologies of the antagonist is so readily accepted with no strong reciprocation. (5) Strong dramatisation of lead characters made many of the situations flawed. And so on ........ On average it would be a 53/100.

There is nothing much to write home about as far as the story of Ek Rishtaa goes. The title says it all. It is the story of A father, a family man, a man who is much respected and adored by everyone around him, and his estranged son. A son, who reveres, even worships his father but sadly enough has different ideals and a different thought process than that of his father's. But when fate strikes and a slew of tragedies hit the Kapoor household, It is the son, who swallows his pride and his ego, and comes walking back into his father's life, taking control, and teaching everyone, big and small something about family values, and how nothing can break blood ties and love bonds. Amitabh Bachchan is, once again, flawless as the father who believes that patience is a big virtue and is realistic enough to see that in modern day India, education is not as important as experience, goodwill and hard work, something he believes his son has till to obtain. With every passing movie, he proves that he can outshine most actors walking the planet today and hold his own against the best that World Cinema has to offer.
Akshay Kumar, as Mr. Bachchan's son is simply great. This is the second movie where he has proved that he is an actor of caliber and the Chopras and Barjatyas of the world need to sit up and take notice. His performance as the good son is understated, yet endearing. Especially poignant are the scenes where he pleads with Amitabh Bachchan to give him a chance, and show him that In this case, a son can become a father's support. Of the rest of the cast, Karisma, Juhi Chawla, Mohnish Behl and Rakhee are good. with strong characterisations. Where the film fails is in its music, length and shoddy narration.
With Golden performances, which, if the film had been made better, would have definitely got it a slew of awards. To end, the film doesn't disappoint, but then, it doesn't even please.

If you really don't know much about this movie, all you need to know that there is a song called 'Mohabbat Ne Mohabbat Ko' which is the best Hindi song of 2001.So go see Ek Rishtaa, just to watch the song sequence, the location in Switzerland is too worn out in every Hindi movie, but that is the only location of the song, which makes you see, there is beauty in simplicity!
