There are many things to like here. The tone shifts back and forth between serious police work and lighthearted comedy. Aoshima is the moral centre, quick to help victims and citizens. He argues that the detectives on the front lines deserve more respect from the cold elite higher ups at HQ. Aoshima works well with Sumire, a formidable lady cop somewhat haunted by past run-ins. Yukino is the daughter of a murder victim, who Aoshima befriends, and eventually comes to work alongside him. Aoshima learns that he does have one ally at HQ, Muroi, from rural Akita, who comes to respect Aoshima's street savvy and caring. Mashita joined the section after Aoshima, but his dad is a high muck a muck, so the precinct and section chiefs treat him special hoping he'll put in a good word for them.
The music soundtrack by Akihiko Matsumoto is also edgy and catchy, highlighting moments of tension or humour to great effect.
