Superb game.

All I can say about this game is wow. Sega does it again (very hard for them to keep it up though). I loved the gameplay, soundtrack, and story line. I still play it since there's so much to do (get every emblem, get perfect scores, etc). I also thought it was very well-planned and made. Good job Sega. Hopefully they'll keep it up, even as a second party.

Yuji Naka has worked his genius yet again.

Videogames had never interested me before 1991, being a Transformers buff. However after seeing a rolling demo of the original Sonic on the Megadrive (aka Genesis)in Woolworths, I saw something special and pestered my parents into getting me THAT game. Once I had raced Sonic through that synonymous ochre and brown chequered landscape for the first time, I was hooked. My Optimus Prime action figure was never to see daylight again.

Nowadays I am a videogames enthusiast studying a degree in the subject at Teeside, and I only have that blue hedgehog to thank for getting me this far.

As the Sonic Series has easily been my favourite series of games, I was delighted when Sonic adventure was announced, promising a 3-D interpretation of Sonics 16-bit exploits as well as progressing the series gameplay and direction. Also, gaming gen Sonic creator Yuji Naka was to head development. After waiting an eternity for a proper 3-D Sonic game I was not dissapointed but was left thirsty for more.

Not suprisingly, Naka announced a sequal, aptly named 'Sonic Adventure 2'. Since the announcement, I had been counting the days until I got to play it. On June 23rd, I finally got to experience Naka's latest work.

A game to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sonic, produced by the man who created him was going to have high expectations, and I believe this game has more than met up to them.

The first thing that struck me, as I believe would have been the same for anyone else playing the game for the first time was the astounding quality of the graphics. The first level, clearly inspired by San Francisco looks beautiful, running at 60 fps, not a hint of slowdown and speeding along faster than Sonics 2-D games, which I feel is some achievement in 3-D. The inspired design of the first level has been given the trademark sonic flavour with everything synonymous with the character- loops, ramps, speed boosts, vertigo inducing drops etc. Grinding, clearly intended to appeal to the currently developing youth sport movement is another neat touch that echo's throughout the entire game. Graphically the game gets more and more incredible as it progresses. Levels with egyptian influence contain texture mapping quality that I would go as far to say that it beats anything I have seen so far on any console or PC, including the supposedly superior PS2. Without revealing too much, the space themed levels towards the end are perhaps the most impressive graphically. Sonic levels have always been incredibly detailed with something constantly happening. Even in the first game on the Megadrive, Sonic Team (the developers) would strive to create an 'alive' gameworld, with sparkles in the water, moving clouds and tiny multi-coloured flashing lights in the floor. SA2 continues this awesome trend and avoids the dull, static look of many games in the genre. All of the levels in the game are also incredibly imaginative and fresh in gameplay ideas, whilst retaining a strong play structure in the scoring system and player objectives. One minor complaint I would have would be that I would have liked a little more harking back to the originals aesthetic routes, I think this game trys to be a little to gritty and realistic at times, forgetting Sonic is essentially a cartoon character. There are also a few ideas that that I don't believe fit into a Sonic game too well. The whole supernatural sub-theme with the ghosts and the 'king boom boo' boss all seem a bit of a mis-fit and a tad lame to be honest.

The soundtrack of the game is something I have mixed opinions about. As a soundtrack, it is fantastic. Jun Senoue (the composer) has produced an extremely high quality and varied range of music to suit all tastes, ranging from rock, hip-hop (Knuckles tune is particually good)to techno. However the soundtrack is not really Sonic. With a few notable exeptions, I wouldn't really associate this type of music with a Sonic game, it is generally too serious and is some way of the classic cartoony, bouncy tunes that were found in the earlier games. Sonic CD (1993) had the kind of music I would have liked to have heard in this game. However, the fast pace of the music that is here does suit the action on screen well.

Sonic Adventure 2 is a game that will last, not only because of the classic Sonic Team gameplay, in which they never fail, but the sheer size of the game impresses. 33 levels each with 5 separate challenges means that there is a lot of gameplay to be had. SA2 is also extremely difficult, and quite unforgiving at times. With many games today being critisised for having a short life, SA2 comes as a nice addition to anyones games library.

I don't have enough room to fully justify my admiration for this game, I havn't really talked about the gripping narrative or the brilliant gameplay, or the Chao- the incredible artificial life- sort of like tamagotchis only more advanced.

Naka, the man responsible for the entire Sonic series, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star Online among many other classic, and indeed pioneering games, has added another gem to his CV with Sonic Adventure 2. Although granted, there are some ideas that don't work, there is no doubt that Naka has managed to retain the magic and essence of Sonic in a 3-D world. Something that is often lost in the transition from a 2-D world. It is just a shame that the console that this game is representing will cease to exist in a years time. The potential this game shows, shows that the Dreamcast could compete technically with whats next with ease.

An improvement on the first game

This game is awesome. It improves over the first game in a million different ways. It has 2 stories, Hero and Dark. Hero lets you play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, while Dark lets you play as Shadow, Rouge, and Eggman. Yes, YOU CAN PLAY AS EGGMAN! Does it already sound cool? Oh, and also, one of the coolest Sonic stages in history, City Escape, is the first level! That should tell you that you're in for a wild ride.

this game so rocks

omg, this is the BEST GAME EVER. my little bro is sonic obsessed, and so i started playing and this game is the greatest! so much better than the first - graphics, music, plot, everything! i love the chao, too. they're so CUTE!!

i'm planning on getting the soundtrack. the music is awesome. different, but awesome! knuckles has this rap music for his theme, sonic has a pop rock theme, tails has this electro/dico theme, shadow has this totally gritzy disco/electro theme, rouge has this catchy upbeat theme, and eggman has this pop rock/electric theme. but then there's a different song for almost every level. i find myself singing these songs randomly . . .(i have 'city escape' memorized . . . :))

i've also obtained an obsession myself. w/ shadow. the hedgehog. he's so hot. so sexy. :) i love his voice. . . *faints*

he should have his own game series.

sonic's voice is cool, too. ryan is hot.

One of the best games I have ever played

Where to begin with this. Great boss fights including Finalhazard, Biolizard, Shadow in Final Rush. Great character development and Shadow and ROuge are amazing. Shadow is just so bad-ass he makes a bad moment good. Knuckles and Tails are awesome as usual. Amy gets cameos and Sonic and Eggman are developed well for a Sonic game.

Great music including Supporting Me, Final rush Shadow music, Live and Learn and Escape from the City. Just play this game if you can. You will enjoy it.

People may say the camera angles are bad and the game hasn't aged well but who cares. I never minded them at all. If you don't have a Wii, Gamecube or Dreamcast, you can still play it on Xbox Ones and PS Now today.

Chaos Control

WOW. My favourite game as a child was always Sonic Adventure, I'd only just completed Sonic Adventure 2 and it was fantastic!

The story is easily one of the best in the whole Sonic franchise, love the adventure gameplay, most levels were pretty fun, all original.

The story is just what really makes this game great, the addition of Shadow in the Sonic universe was easily one of the best decisions made by Sega and Sonic Team.

Compared to the first Sonic Adventure, I'd say the story was SLIGHTLY better, but I enjoy Sonic Adventure more.

Great lessons to be learnt and in all fact a fun adventure.

Sonic Game Of All Time!

This is probably one of the best sonic games I have ever played! I can tell you right now that this unlike almost all Sonic The Hedgehog games for various reasons. First off, this game was not really meant for kids for various different reasons. For starters, some of the comments made in the game are not ones I would think younger kids would understand. Also, the plot was very complicated for younger kids. Another thing, Rouge The Bat tore away from all Sonic games, making it very obvious that the creator had intended it to be for fans now who were fans from the very begining. Some of the biggest fans are from 15-25, so that's where I'm guessing Rouge came from. Rouge is a sexy, sassy. .Bat that uses looks and more to get her way. Not only that, but a costume she aquires later is a very. .SHOWY costume! I also must say that the ending game was most likely NOT meant for kids. Let's put it this way, so I don't give anything away, Dr. Gerald Robotnik makes his little speech, then people in the background start screaming things that would familiar to older audiences.

Anyway, enough with why the game was not really meant for kids. Let's move onto the good additions to the game! I must say, I was really impressed with the graphics in this game! Everything was full of detail, down the very last leaf on a tree! In fact, most of the game was almost in completely rendered 3-D. Unfortunately, there weren't as many cool cut scenes like Sonic Adventure had with perfect, realistic animation. Another great thing about this game was the music. Every characters level had the same type of music, that was VERY well organized. Sonic gets regular rock music, Tails gets some sort of hippie music, Knuckles gets really great hip hop music, Shadow gets total techno feed music, Eggman gets techno mixed in with heavy metal, and Rouge gets very catchy jazz music. I must say that Rouge's music was so catchy that I walk around humming her music. Another great addition to this game were the characters Shadow and Rouge, which were awesome characters! I really hope that Shadow ends up getting his own video game series after this. Rouge was great, but she could have been better. Sure she could hunt better than Knuckles and run faster than Sonic, but being a bat, she still couldn't walk on ceilings or use any supersonic waves that bats would use. Plus, a glitch about the game, is that she flies in cut scenes, yet she can only glide when you play as her. However, she WAS a great addition to the game, and I would love to see her come back!

Well, in general, Sonic Adventure 2 is probably one of the best games I have played in a long time, and I look forward to Sonic Adventure 3 on the GameCube by Nintendo!

The Last of the Great Sonic Games

Since a very young age, I have been an avid fan of Sonic games. From the Megadrive, up to the Playstation 2 games, I have played a wide range of the games. However, I have seen a dramatic decline in these games, as can be seen with some of the recent games. 2001, in my opinion, is the last time a great sonic game has been seen in the form of Sonic Adventure 2.

This game, along with it's older brother, made up a significant part of my childhood, due to it's impressive graphical display, talented voice acting and innovative story. The characters were original, the replay value was high and the stages, while keeping a sense of the old game's traditions, were imaginative, especially the "City Escape" level. However, the aspect that gave me the most amusement had to be the Chao Gardens. I cannot understand why, but the idea, in my opinion, was genius, and was the part that I have missed most about this game. And that is what sets this apart from most other games, and is it's most memorable quality: when the Dreamcast, which I had this game on, "died" and my console fell into disrepair, I found something I have found with only one other game since: I began to mourn for the loss of the game, and began to miss it terribly. I can only hope that the game will be re-released on a more recent console.

I'm finding it hard to find anything bad to say about this game, so I'll leave that to anyone who didn't like this game. All I shall say is this: Sonic Adventure 2. You are, and shall remain to be missed

I really liked it for some reason (Video Game)

Sonic Adventure Battle 2 is an excellent game that I really enjoyed. It's a re-make of the Dreamcast version.

You can play as either a hero or a villain. There are three types of characters on each side, with specific missions.

1)The main character. (Sonic, Shadow) You can curl up into a ball (like Sonic usually does) and attack enemies by rolling, jumping, etc.

2)The "digging" character. (Knuckles, Rouge) You fight some enemies, but your main objective is to dig up all three of the Green Emeralds that you can within the time limit.

3)The character in the robot. (Tails, Dr. Eggman) You get to shoot at enemies to attack them.

Playing through each level gets very fun. The levels have decent variation, and never get too repetitive. You fight various robots, and collect rings too.

You can later use the rings when you unlock the Chao Garden. The Chao Garden is a place where you get to take care of cute, and funny-looking creatures. You can train them to fight and race other Chao.

The controls seem a bit flawed. But, all you must do is get used to them. The characters do seem a bit hard to maneuver, but after a little practice, their easy to master.

The graphics are fine. No, they aren't ugly, as another IMDb user said so. I really had no problem with them, even if they can be better. They can't be compared to other Gamecube titles such as Resident Evil 4 and Super Smash Bros. Melee, but I can settle for these.

The Boss fights are fun. It become really hard when your opponents start using loads of special attacks, but the rest are fine. Not too hard at all.

The multi-player is superb. You and some friend can battle in split-screen mode, and have loads of fun killing each other, or searching for emeralds. Like the characters, there are three different types of multi-player modes.(besides the kart-racing and Chao garden)They are: racing, (Sonic, Shadow)robot battle, (Tails, Dr. Eggman) and Emerald search. (Knuckles, Rouge)With that, there are also two other characters available for each mode. The only problem is on the race mode. The first two tracks seem to be too simple without much skill required. The last two tracks seem to be too difficult and impossible to complete.

There was one other thing that got kind of old- the search for the Green Emeralds. I mean, there's only a couple of characters. It gets so... boring! Well, not as interesting as the other two.

Well, I would recommend it. It's not the best-looking game out there, but it's one of the more entertaining.

8/10

Good: Variation, decent controls and graphics, great multi-player, great extras including Chao garden

Bad: Controls seem flawed at times, some tracks seem too easy or hard in multi-player, graphics could be better, Chaos can't be controlled during fights and races.

This game is perfect.

The famous blue blur is back in the dreamcast/GameCube game. Sonic adventure 2. This is my all time favorite video game. Out of all the sonic games, you might think I like sonic 1 or 2 on genesis/mega drive depending on where you are. I like those too, but I like this game the most because this is the first sonic game I have ever seen. Forget Mario, he just saves the princess, sonic stops robotnik/eggman from taking over the world.

The controls are great, well except for the camera in the knuckles and rouge stages. Sonic is fast, shadow is introduced. Tails is fun. Eggman is awesome, like he always is. The game is fun.

The story is great, the acting is great for the year 2001. This game is what every video game should be fun. I give this a perfect 10 of 10.

this game rocks!

i'm going to keep my comment pretty short and sweet.

i'll admit the graphics could be a little better but one bonus is that it still had Ryan Drummond, and Lani Minella and David Humphrey made their debut before they got replaced. pros and cons people, pros and cons.

I've been a die-hard sonic fan for years anyway but let me tell you people this game is THE best sonic game there is.

it's got a gripping storyline unlike most of the others, it's got loads of missions, a really long lifespan to complete like the WHOLE thing and a KICK-ASS soundtrack.

trust me. it's brilliant, honestly. but if it's not your kind of thing then... well ignore me! seriously. take note. if you trust the judgement of an English teenage gamer gal anyway. that's all. :-D

The pinnacle of the Sonic franchise

This game marked the 10th anniversary of the Sonic franchise and the peak of the franchise in my opinion. It was also one of my favorite Dreamcast games growing up.

Sometime after the first Sonic Adventure game, Sonic is mistaken for Shadow the Hedgehog, the ultimate lifeform, and arrested, setting off yet another adventure. This time, Dr. Eggman, with assistance from Shadow and treasure hunter Rouge the Bat, seeks to gain access to the space station ARK and conquer the world. Now, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy must travel into outer space and thwart the evil doctors' plans once again, all the while uncovering Shadow's past.

Like the prequel, the story consists of six different character arcs that intertwine with one another. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as three playable protagonists, while Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge are the playable villains/anti-heroes.

The game is more linear than SA1, lacking any hub worlds like Station Square or Mystic Ruins, removing the exploring aspects of the first game. But the game makes up for it with increased difficulty, which is a good thing for those who enjoy a challenge and beating high scores. The levels come in three varieties: fast paced action for Sonic and Shadow, third-person shooters for Tails and Eggman, and Master Emerald shard hunting for Knuckles and Rouge. Most of the bosses are as lackluster and easy as in the prequel, although a few, like King Boom Boo or Shadow in the finale, can be tricky.

Once again, the music is outstanding and has some of the best songs in the franchise, from the action-packed rock song "Escape from the City" in City Escape to the industrial sounding rave song "The Supernatural" in Final Chase. Sonic once again has a fast-paced rock theme, Tails is a bright pop song, and Knuckles is rap/hip-hop. The bad guys have some great theme songs too, like Shadow's fast-paced electronic rock, Eggman's intense industrial rock, and Rouge's alluring, relaxing jazz.

SA2 definitely improved with its lip-sync and animation. The character movements are much more fluid and extensive, especially during cutscenes. It's not perfect, though. The characters frequently talk over each other and some of the voice actors give a poor performance again, like Tails' annoying high-pitched kid voice and Knuckles monotone. But flaws aside, the game's presentation is good.

The game has no shortage of awesome and memorable moments, like Sonic sledding or running down slanted city streets while pursued by a gigantic semi-cab, Eggman's brilliant raid on Prison Island to obtain the Chaos emeralds, and finally Super Sonic and Super Shadow joining forces to save the world in the end. The story is stronger and has more emotional moments, like Shadow and the late Gerald Robotnik's grief for Maria, Amy motivating Shadow to become a hero and save the world, and Knuckles saving Rouge's life despite their rivalry.

The game has aged better than SA1 and its replay value is higher, so try it out on Steam if you're interested in classic Sonic games.

Horrid

I loved the first Sonic Adventure game (Gamecube remake) and I only expected this one to be as good, if not better. But, boy was I wrong. It's a truly horrible game that's scattered all over the place with no non-linear progression or free roaming abilities of the original.

The graphics are ugly, the camera system is the worst I have ever come across and the levels are tiresome and repetitive. Where's the dynamic gameplay of the first game? Or the cool mini-games that keep you coming back again and again? It was just ugly and garish and far inferior to Sonic Adventure. Do not buy or rent.

I can only hope and pray that Sonic Heros is better because I have already bought it.

Love this game!

This game is awesome. I bought it after playing it with the kids I babysit. I wanted it for the Chao, the little creatures you raise and breed and whatnot, but the game itself is great. The music is cool, even Knuckles' rap songs (just because they're Knuckles), the scenery is awesome, the voices could be better (Sonic's voice sucks, but Ryan Drummond is officially Sonic so I'll have to get used to it). The mouths could move better with the voices too. The plot is perfect, the whole two sided story and everything. I guess I like it so much because it's the first Sonic game I've played. Others seem to like the first one better. This is a great game! 10/10

A Massive Downgrade.

The first Sonic Adventure was one of, if not the best Sonic games ever. But this, this is just... bad. There's no hubworlds other than the Chao Garden, the plot is confusing and boring, the voice acting is awful, and most of all: the treasure and mech stages are tedious and slow. They eat up most of the game across both Hero and Dark Story and, in terms of gameplay, are completely overshadowed by the Speed stages, which are 10 times more fun. If the game were all Speed stages, I'd instantly raise it to maybe a 6/10. But as is, this game is such a slog to get through, and ESPECIALLY to 100% complete.

Another cool sonic game!

This is one of the best Sonic games out there. Great high speed action, great adventure, and amazing storyline. The game was fun, but challenging. There are levels for speed (Sonic, Shadow), levels for shooting (Tails, Eggman), and levels for hunting (Knuckles, Rouge).

Some of the drawbacks include Tails in a walker instead of on foot. It's still fun, but it bothers me that you control him in a slow walker instead of very fast and flying. Also, there are no adventure fields in which I liked in the first game.

When the two stories are beaten, there is a final story to complete with an awesome storyline and awesome game play.

Overall, I strongly recommend the game. I enjoyed the first one a little bit more, but this game is loads of fun and I've gone through the game three times already.
