The first chapter of the new book Tearing Down the Orange Curtain: How Punk Rock Brought Orange County to the World, like its unfurling title, leaves you a bit breathless. It starts with the history of the Cuckoo’s Nest, a ramshackle Costa Mesa club that became a haven for O.C. punk bands like T.S.O.L, the Vandals, the Adolescents, Agent Orange, and Social Distortion to moor and display their loud, raucous music among the sea of pleasantries of Orange County, California, in the Seventies and Eighties.

The 3000 Pictures biopic about the band has the 27-year-old Riverdale actor attached to star as Bradley Nowell in the film, with Justin Chon on board to direct, via Deadline.

Justin is also writing the screenplay with Bobby Hundreds, based on Chris Mundy’s original draft.

Exclusive: 3000 Pictures’ biopic on the Long Beach band Sublime is gaining serious traction and some major talent as sources tell Deadline that Kj Apa is attached to star as Bradley Nowell in the film, with Justin Chon on board to direct. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready from Chernin Entertainment are producing the film, which is in development. Original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson are executive producing along with Nowell’s son Jakob Nowell — who now is Sublime’s lead singer — and widow Troy Nowell on behalf of the late singer’s estate. Francis Lawrence also is executive producing, as is Jamie Spetner, Director of Development at Chernin Entertainment. Marisa Paiva is overseeing the project for 3000 Pictures.

Sublime, with Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob at the helm, deliver a pristine rendition of their classic “Santeria” in a preview of their upcoming performance on Howard Stern, premiering exclusively on Rolling Stone.

The rendition of “Santeria” shows just how well Nowell has settled into the band since he joined earlier this year. His voice, unsurprisingly, bears some resemblance to his late father’s, but while singing “Santeria,” he still finds space to inject his own character into the song.

Twelve years after their last show, Creed will reunite for their Summer of ’99 tour next year. Beginning in July 2024, band members Scott Phillips, Brian Marshall, Mark Tremonti and Scott Stapp will come together to perform for their fans.

“I feel like I’m as strong as I’ve ever been vocally, and looking forward to sharing the stage with the guys again,” Stapp said in a statement. “The fans have clearly let us know they feel it’s long overdue. I want to give them what they deserve. I’m ready to bring it.”

They are scheduled to start their reunion tour in Green Bay, Wisconsin, before ending on September 28 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Everybody’s favorite SoCal stoner reggae-rap-rock innovators Sublime will be getting the official biopic treatment.

The movie was announced Thursday, with Francis Lawrence attached to direct and Chris Mundy writing the script. Lawrence is best known for big budget action flicks like I Am Legend, Red Sparrow, and four movies in the Hunger Games franchise (including next year’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Mundy, meanwhile, has earned multiple Emmy nominations while serving as showrunner/writer on Ozark.
