Ok, my friends have played this game since it was in beta testing (summer 1999). I watched them, but I never played -- until about 2 months ago. This is one of the best, most addicting games ever. Counter-Strike is a multiplayer-only PC game played either over a network or the Internet.

The game simulates terrorist/counter-terrorist action. You can join either the terrorist or the counter-terrorist (CT) team. The two most common scenarios are bomb defusion and hostage rescue. In bomb defusion, one terrorist is given a bomb and must plant it at a specified location. The CTs must either kill all of the terrorists prior to the planting of the bomb or defuse the bomb once it has been planted. In hostage rescue, the terrorists must prevent the CTs from rescuing the hostages.

A little background into the making of the game: Counter-Strike is a modification of Valve Software's game "Half-Life." Counter-Strike was not created by Valve, but by a group of people seeking to improve the multiplayer aspects of the game. It is more popular than the original game, played by millions of players all over the world.

Note: This game features graphic violence and should not be played by children.

Contrary to some people's opinion, pitchforks, jetpacks, ninja stars, and grenade-throwing hostages were never part of the game. A simple look at the changelog for the game will show that these aspects were never included in any release of Counter-Strike.

The most addictive game I ever played.. and millions the world over would agree with me. Its exactly the element of simplicity that made this game the most popular in the world. It makes it all that more skillful. It takes gaming back to its essence and reminds the big-shot programmers (lol) that it doesn't take flashy things to get us interested, but... innovation. Id rather play CS Source any day than doing another RTS clone like Warcraft. To Valve, I give a big thumbs up for breathing life back into the LAN and network playing arena. After UT 2004, things seemed never to be the same again. But it wouldn't be. There's life after UT... and it's a second Halflife.

Realism is what I've always wanted in a shooter. Death match games where you respawn every 5 minutes seem to have been done to death (pun is intended). But, realistic scenarios involving terrorists and anti-terrorists, realistic weapons, and great maps combine to create the best combat I've ever experienced in gaming land. And the best part??... All the players are actual people playing at their computers like you.

Playability, Controls, Game Modes, Weapons... Everything is amazing in this game. It played even more than the next game, Counter-Strike: Source.

This game is amazing at moddable so this was the reason why it is played too long. AMX Mod X extensions, mods was the core of the servers. That mods and extensions made the game playable for a real long time.

Deathrun, Jailbreak, Zombie, Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, BunnyHop, KZ... There was a lot of mods for this game and all of them are amazing, I played all of them with enjoy.

A pure kind of action.With real players,with real guns,against real players.Successful maps,guns,weapons.There is never an end,eternal challenge.But the minimum A.I. and maximum human factor never makes it seem again.And all these human factors;tricks,mistakes,different plans...makes the graphics not so important.More important than graphics maps are very suitable for seek and destroy,unstoppable rush,hiding somewhere to shoot in the back or big battles in big areas.The guns are so many and realistic so you don't stuck into a character during the game.It's not hard to learn how to play but so hard to learn to play well.But no matter how good or bad you are,you'll never get bored.Other thing about the game is,this one makes you a real hero.You're in a team and coordinate with plans but sometimes you have to stand up just by yourself and fight alone.By winning,you don't save a computer A.I. character;a real human character.So you can be the hero of the day.

When the whole world was raving about Counter-Strike, I had initially chosen not to play it because I preferred the frantic action of the Quake games. However, when forced to play it among friends, I quickly got addicted to it. You'd notice people playing the same old levels over and over again. Counter Strike is so good because of how balanced it is in terms of gameplay. Your arsenal is extensive and the bullet ballistics are extremely realistic and add to balancing the gameplay. You really have to strategise and evolve effective tactics and team work as brute force often ends up getting you killed. Getting killed is extremely frustrating and getting a kill feels extremely good as well. So go play it now if you have'nt already.

Regarding shady sovereign. The game is supposed to be REALISTIC, not SF. If you like Unreal Tournament or Quake fine, go play that. CS was never intended to be a game like the ones you mentioned, some kind of an alien game with non-existing supernatural weapons that reload automatically. And about the maps, I really think you didn't play the game enough, it has hundreds of maps, maybe more, of different sizes. But if they are not played in major competitions they don't stand a chance, they are played only for fun.

Personally this is the best game ever, entertaining, competitive and fun. The only thing I hate about the game is the Source version... but that's just me.

I still play this nowadays. It is way better than csgo in terms if mechanics and hit detection and there are a suprising ammount of active servers with people playing.

I honestly think that the latest versions of Counter-Strike have gone backwards in gameplay and enjoyability. Now when you're hit you basically become a sitting duck and have no hope of escape. You are also limited to one or two jumps before slowing down to walking pace. In order to survive, you need to be deadly accurate with your shots. This means you need to practice for at least several hours per day to remain competetive on the internet. I used to be good at this game in the earlier beta releases, but then I lost interest as other games and mods came along. Recently I tried to get back into Counter-Strike, but after playing for several hours with only a couple of frags to my name I gave up. I find that you have to be 100% dedicated to CS in order to be even remotely competetive. Unfortunately I don't have the interest or the time to do this. This means my Counter-Strike gaming is limited to LAN's where my opponents don't practice 24/7.

7/10 - Ok, but nothing spectacular.

Pretty much anyone who's even remotely heard of video games has likely come across "Counter-Strike". In the early 2000s, it was practically a ritual - everyone played it, everyone talked about it, and PC clubs were packed to the brim. Back then, to be honest, I wasn't really into it. I preferred other kinds of games. But as the saying goes, "the game will find you", and one day I ended up in a club where everyone around me was shooting, planting bombs, and yelling about choosing sides - T or CT.

For a while, I couldn't understand how this game was even related to *Half-Life*, which was all about sci-fi and other fun stuff. But eventually, I stopped overthinking it - especially after I played "Counter-Strike" for the first time. It was all very straightforward: one team (terrorists) tries to blow something up or guard hostages, and the other (counter-terrorists) tries to stop them. No magic, just the raw clash of tactics, reflexes, and random headshots from total newbies.

Speaking of which - as a complete noob, I tried to stay in the shadows, keep a low profile, and just observe. Then, something magical happened. I randomly fired in the direction of some movement and accidentally took out the club's local cyber-god - the one everyone knew and feared. His furious "What the-?!" (well, his actual words were a bit stronger) echoed like thunder, and I didn't even realize at first what I'd done. The whole club burst out laughing, I was embarrassed, and my moment of glory lasted exactly one round - because the very next time, that same player hunted me down first and obliterated me without mercy. Miracles happen, but not every day.

What really stuck with me was how fast everything moved - and how quickly you could die. You'd spawn in, buy your gear, take one step - and boom, game over, now you're watching the rest of the round from above. Sure, I lacked experience and died fast, but the point is this: *Counter-Strike* is fast. There's no room for error. Unlike in other shooters where you can run around like crazy, CS rewards caution, smart positioning, and short, controlled bursts of gunfire.

The game had a solid arsenal. Every weapon had its purpose, pros and cons. The maps were diverse and well-designed, pushing you to memorize layouts and think tactically. Everything in the game felt balanced.

I was never a hardcore "Counter-Strike" fan, but it was fun to play. Those late-night club sessions, the shouting, the surprise victories - it all had a vibe. And the game's legacy still seems to be alive today - I still see occasional news about it, and people are still playing it. Plus, "Counter-Strike" taught me something important: even a total beginner can be a hero... for a few seconds (laughs). You just have to accidentally pull the trigger at the right moment.

Yes, to me this is better then World of Warcraft, Halo 2, or any other game for the most part. The game is really just about the multiplayer so if you like good single player games go play both Half-Life's for that. This game has been popular for a long time for many reasons. The first being the mod community who help better the replay value. Second it's hard to perfect the game since their are so many damn good people online. Lastly the gameplay itself is addictive and once it pulls you in, it won'r let go.

Gameplay: Counter-Strike may at first appear to be just like a lot of other FPS's, boring and generic. Whoever would think that after playing the game for a little while would have to be on drugs to think that. The game has you choose to be a Terrorist or Counter Terrorist. The best thing of each side is both sides have their own set of objectives depending on the map you are playing. The Terrorists on many maps have to plant a bomb and defend it from the Counter Terrorists who try and disarm the bomb. While this may sound simple there is a lot of strategy to this especially if you have only a few members on whatever side your on. The shooting in the game is great as well as you get like twenty weapons on each side which include pistols, machine gun, sniper rifles, ak-47, silencer, dual pistols, and many other great weapons. The firefights in the game are intense and when playing things get very suspenseful since you can get sniped from far away and not even see it coming.

Graphics: They are good for the time and were updated by the great people at Valve. Yet, many new CS's came out, but this version still looks good and can hold its own against many other FPS's right now on the market.

Why this game is such popular to play for nowadays gamers. Also this game is too old to play and dead. A lot of people who played this game a lot became murderers, thieves and aggressive to people.

This game has worst graphics and yet this game is played now ? ... WHAT A MESS... Map doesn't show you the enemies and when you fight with counter terrorists&terrorists in easy mode you are simply killed and there are no health kits for retrieving your life.

Shooting sounds totally sucks and shooting controlls are worst even for a beginner. This gane doesn't have rocket launchers or any heavy weapon. When you shoot the wall or any object only the shots are appeared and the cracks not and why enemies dies with 6 bullets in easy mode so by this conclusion they are zombies not soldiers. Except some weapons such assault rifles,snipers heavy machine do more damage. I don't know this game's rated with 8.5 and even it doesn't deserve a 2.

My conclusion for this game : 1. Worst graphics. 2. Guns are silly and uncontrollable, even for begginers. 3. Map is dumb and unprecise. 4. Frustrating, aggressive and childish videogame. 5. I hate this videogame. I wont play this videogame never and for now I'm going to uninstall it.

I reccommend this game only 10% because of some weapons they have great damage. Other part is 0.

yes... w00t... need i say more? well i'm going too, counterstrike offers really quick fun and satisfying action, it's incredible addictiveness lures you back for more, and more, and more. After versing your friends, and other people online, and talking to them over voice com. and shooting them in the head a few times. you'll always find yourself wanting more. Counterstrike being the the most popular online multi-player game, you'll be missing out on something by not playing it. One great feature of 'cs' is that you can create a clan with some pals and win some tournaments. You'll never get bored with the hundreds of maps, and game type varieties. If your not fond of playing seriously against a bunch of pro's there are beginner games and you can make your own matches so you can mess about with some friends and have some fun being an administrator of your own little server.

I love playing this game a PC whenever I go to my friends house, but know it has come out on xbox. My uncle works at Best Buy and he gave me a surprise I told him how much I loved it and poof there it was. In the game you get to choose between being a counter terrorist or terrorist. On the xbox version you can play with friends on xbox live or if you are by yourself you can play against the mods. You get to buy weapons, shoot at the other teams so you can get a good score, and take it from me give this game a try you won't be disappointed!!!!

What can I say? For me it's the best game of all time! Great gameplay, amazing graphics (for the year 2000) great realism and overall an amazing FPS game, where it actually takes a lot of skill to master the game.

I even play it, to this day. the nostalgia, fun, amazing gameplay, cool people, the competetive aspect of this game, all of that makes me play this game.

Right now in 2019 it may not be worth buying since while the community is still active, if you play the latest games with amazing graphics, you may not enjoy this game.

However you may wanna look into the 4th game in this series: "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive". With both cool graphics, amazing gameplay, and being one of the biggest games in the eSports scene. It is without a doubt worth to buy, specially now that it's FREE!!! so you don't even have to spend money to play one of the best FPS games of all time! Although the free version of the game has a lot of cheaters, so you might consider buying an addon called: "Prime Version". With Prime your account will be upgraded to a Prime Account. This means you're less likely to encounter cheaters.

But yeah, Counter-Strike (or CS 1.6) is (at least for me) the best game of all time!!!!
