This is the first part of a trilogy: Legend of the Condor Heroes, Return of the Condor Heroes, and Dragon Sword and Heaven Sabre. The 1982 version is a classic because the cast is right; the chemistry between Felix Wong and Barbara Yung is amazing. So far it's only available on VCD, and only in Mandarin without English subtitles. When the DVD will be released, I don't know. But I'm waiting.

In this age when special effects are the rage, this classic still stands out. Although special effects are minimal and somewhat a weak effort, the actors have truly brought out the essence of this novel by Jin Yong on to the television.
The most notable features of the film are the scenes of Guo Jing and Huang Rong. The casts, Barbara Yung and Felix Wong are a great duo. The acting by the late Barbara Yung is so natural and outstanding that she has won many fans till present time.
The rest of the cast have done a great job in putting together this classic. It deserves an excellent rating.
PS: did anyone notice the funny man Stephen Chow acting in very minors in the film?

Wow! This is really great stuff! This is a romantic story, full of action (MARTIAL ARTS OF COURSE), and well, actually it´s a bit of everything..... Felix Wong (Kwok Ching), for instance, looks very, well uhhmm... not-so-smart and yet, it takes only one glimpse of him to see that he is the hero of the story. Anyway, he acts very naturally.
It´s really a pity that the other main character (yes, I consider her as a main character!) Yung Meiling (Wong Yung) died a couple of years after this series was made, since she was such an intelligent and beautiful young lady (She would have been in her 40´s by now???)
The sequel to this series, Return of the the condor heroes, focuses on the son of Yang Hong (one of the villains of The condor heroes). He is played by ........ Andy Lau!!! He plays a good guy though.
This series is also very good, but it features more moments of laughter than the first one (which was actually quite a tearjerker at times).
You 'll love this!!!!

I saw this when I was a child then again 27 years after it was made and it is still just as good and fresh.
The movie takes place in a fantasy martial arts world where you follow the two main characters through their many epic adventures. It draws you the more you watch and you feel as if you live with the characters through their journeys.
There's a superb cast with characters you grow to love and admire. It is heavy on character development done through showing the viewer instead of telling.
This is a great series that will be loved for many more years to come.
