In addition to the principles of fugue from music, I think this visual artwork borrows from other sources as well. For example, the way the buildings are depicted is highly reminiscent of the metaphysical movement's Giorgio de Chirico, whose art was influenced by Roman arcades, illogical perspectives, and surrealism. Interestingly, some surrealist artists, such as René Magritte, were influenced by de Chirico-particularly in their use of architectural elements. What makes this animation special, however, is its use of flowing camera movements-including pans and zooms-and the constant metamorphosis of shapes and scenes. Other animators have employed similar techniques, but I would say this is Georges Schwizgebel's signature trait.
