This is a game to be played

June 6, 1996. A mysterious explosion occurs in the Chernolton Research Facility in Moscow. Lucifer Alpha, a top-secret biological weapon, is released into the atmosphere, killing off 50% of the world's populous. Soon after, Lucifer Alpha mutates into non-lethal form.

50 years later, a mysterious android life-form begins appearing around Neo Kobe, Japan. It's motives and origins are unknown. They appear in winter killing humans and taking their place in society via artificial skin. This artificial skin allows the androids to imitate their victims down to the blood, making them almost indestinguishable from the real thing. As these mysterious bio-roids begin implementing their imitation skills, they become known as 'snatchers'.

Neo Kobe, Japan December 2047. You are Gillian Seed, an amnesiac assigned by the military as a 'junker' (Japanese Neuro-Kinetic Elimination Ranger). Your job is to eliminate all snatchers that you come across. Equipped with a state-of-the-art blaster and your navigator robot Metal Gear, you must move throughout Neo Kobe gathering clues and shooting up snatchers without getting yourself killed.

And so begins possibly the greatest game of all time. Snatcher will captivate you from the very beginning, opening up with an cinematic sequence on par with Hollywood's best cyberpunk films. And if you think that's great, wait until you get your blaster... The game pays so much attention to minor detail without losing the plot or character developement that it's almost frightening. You can enjoy the technology behind Gillian's shower and trenchcoat without sacrificing the game's serious tone. And trust me, this is not a game for the little ones. Snatcher is supported by a strong, mature storyline laced with enough gore and violence to satisfy even the most blood-hungry teenager. Another one of the game's triumphs is its ability to make a suspensful scene that makes your blood run cold. I can remember jumping in fear when Metal Gear's motion detector would go off in a dark room or hearing the fast-paced music when I would find a crucial piece of evidence. For an enhanced experience, play Snatcher in the dark... The story is more complex than you could imagine, but it's rather easy to follow, making the game all the more enjoyable. Finding a simple piece of paper on the ground could trigger hundreds of possiblities as to where to go and who to look for. And in a world where no one is quite what they seem to be, your detective skills will have to be as sharp as your eye.

Snatcher is more than a game, it's an emotional experience. You'll be playing without a break until the very end simply because your senses will be begging for more. You will be rewarded with a nice little plot twist at the end, too, so that's another one of the game's advantages. Snatcher is well worth tracking down and playing.

Just make sure not to get yourself killed out there.

    Superior to any other game

This game is a classic, there are no others like it. The story pulls you in, the violence is very gory and is Scary enough that you might not want to play this game alone. Unfortunately, you can only play the game via Sega CD or PC. It is worth buying the old Sega CD if you can find one. Believe me, I kept buying Used Sega CDs that broke easily, and ended up buying 3 Sega CDs altogether, mainly so I could play this game again! (Even after I already completed it!)

You take control as Gillian Seed, a man with Amnesia, in which the only thing he can remember, is the word SNATCHER, so he joins the JUNKER team (A team meant for combating Snatchers) in hopes of regaining his memory. You take control of him on his first day. The acting is very realistic, unlike some other videogames, and the music is terrifying. This is a very rare and enjoyable game, you will love it no matter what your interests are. Play this game with the lights off.

Snatcher - The greatest game of all time !!!!

You know after so many years , i still think that Snatcher is the best game of all time. The closest i can think of is Metal Gear Solid that btw is done my the same Master MR. Hideo Kojima . The plot/story call it like you want is mind blowing. If only i could find some old Sega Cd and a copy of that game , you know what i gona check it now on Ebay :)

    • Trivia
The title is a reference to the fact that this was the first Konami game to be released on CD-ROM.
    • Errores
During the confrontation at Queens Hospital, in which Random plans to blow himself up to take out Chin Shu Oh, the Snatchers, and the hospital, Gillian notes that "it's December, a little late for fireworks", and Random replies that it'll be an "off season show". Apparently, the two haven't heard of New Year's, in which fireworks are most definitely prominent.

    • Versiones alternativas
The Sega (Mega) CD version of the game was a port of the PC Engine version, but was made specifically for the western market with localized text and dialogue. As a result, a few additions and changes were made to the game to make it more marketable. -The date of the Catastrophe was moved five years ahead of the original Japanese version from 1991 to 1996 to make the storyline up to date for western audiences unfamiliar with the original version at the time. As a result, all the other dates mentioned in the game were moved five years ahead as well to keep them consistent. -A new scene is added to the opening intro where Gillian reveals to Jaime that he had become a Junker. The scene was taken from the prologue manga (comic book) that was included in the game's manual, but the Sega CD version is the only version where the scene is rendered in-game with full voice acting. -Many keywords and names were changed. Joy Division (the black market store) became Plato's Cavern. Alphaville (Neo Kobe's computer network) became Alpha-One, the Tricycle (the flying vehicle) became a Turbocycle and so on. -Several graphics and scenes were redrawn or changed. The outfit Katherine (Katrina) wears when Gillian first meet her is different, Jean-Jack's torso is facing front when his headless body is shown, Elijah Madnar's potrait in the church was changed to look more like Tomiharu Kinoshita's artwork of the character (as a result, all of his flashback scenes in the game were redrawn to feature him with long hair). The naked snatchers's eyes were changed from red to green (to avoid copyright infringement with the Terminator films) and light brown highlights were added to their bodies, giving then a more detailed appearance.
      • Many of Gillian's lewd sexual comments and actions (including a scene with a porno tape) were edited out from the Sega CD version. Moreover, Katherine's age was changed from 14 to 18 due to the fact she had a nude shower scene in the game (in the very same scene, Gillian's head obscure the player's view of Katherine's behind and her breast were redrawn to give them a more mature appearance).
      • The exposed breast of the Lisa Nielsen snatcher is covered-up in the Sega CD version and Alice (the dog) no longer twitches during her death. -A puzzle which requires the player to input Katherine's measurements was changed to simply pinpointing the shape and location of Katherine's birthmark. -A few new angles were added to certain scenes. This include a close-up of Gillian's apartment and new shots during the scene with Elijah Madnar. -The Sega CD version is the only version of the game that was compatible with a light gun. It supports the Justifier light gun which came with the Lethal Enforcer game. -The clientele at Outer Heaven were changed from parodies of popular sci-fi characters like Cornelius, Guyver and C3PO in the previous version to Konami characters like Simon Belmont (from Castlevania) and Goemon from the Mystical Ninja series. -More puzzles were added to Act 3 and a few new shooting scenes were included prior to meeting with Jaime. As a result, you can actually shoot Jaime when you reach her and get a Game Over. -And finally, a new scene featuring Mika and Katherine meeting Gillian and Jaime was added to the ending, filling a few of the plot holes left in the Japanese version.
