A great piece of work and a funny song that I find myself singing all the time. The message was there, but it wasn't preachy. One is able to enjoy the animation coupled with a unique blend of music and story. The format was original and catchy. I think everyone should see this film and any others by Geoff Marslett that he can find, they're all great.
I am surprised that this short animated film is listed on IMDb, as it seems more like a flash animation you'd see on the internet as opposed to a "film". If it were such a flash, then I supposed some might find it very entertaining...but I didn't. I noticed someone gave it a 10. That's like putting a velvet Elvis painting in the Louvre.
The animation consists of a silly song about how monkey and robot hate each other. The words are clever and catchy--the accompanying animation isn't. It looks almost like a slide show and has little animation. I think for the target audience, perhaps ages 8-12, it would be more appreciated. For old guys like me (45), I didn't.

This actually won two awards; not exactly Oscars, but they won something at two small film festivals in 1999. I wonder the competition looked like.
If you enjoy two minutes of a catchy song sung by super singers and profound lyrics, repeated over and over while watching a man in a gorilla suit dive at and punch a man in a robot suit, who is doing the same, this film is for you!! There's more, such as a dramatic scene off a rooftop, but I don't spoil it.
Personally, I don't understand why films like Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings (the first one) got so much publicity when movies like this are out there. It must be who you know that brings fame in the film business.
"Monkey Versus Robot" is written and performed by James Kochalka, who labels himself a "superstar" on the ending credits. Who could argue?

This is another short movie by Geoff Marslett, and although IMDb lists this as his only movie, he has done many. This one is his most popular and his most "famous." The message is obvious, the animation is mediocre, the point is nonexistent. But the song is amazing. Monkey Versus Robot is a great song, and immediately after the short movie starts I found my self bursting with laughter. This movie really doesn't have any point, but it's all in good fun. Geoff Marslett really is a creative mind, and I wish he would consider doing movies more often and trying to get into more independent festivals. This movie is a comedy that doesn't take itself seriously at all, but if Marslett were to consider making some bigger comedies, with an ever so small hint of importance, I think he would do just fine.
MONKEY VERSUS ROBOT!
My grade: 10/10

I've seen a lot of monkeys in my day. A few robots to boot, also. But hot damn, this here cartoony animatation features not just one monkey, but several! And there are just as many robots! I like the R2D2 and the one with the faucet for a schlong. That's just good entertainment, ya know? And the James Kochalka Superstar song that had to have been the inspiration for this piece is fab-freakin-ulous! Three cheers for the everlasting feud between monkey and machine!
