For kids who grew up with the Disney Channel from the late 1990s all the way through to more recent years, Disney Channel Original Movies (or DCOMs) were a fundamental part of our childhood viewing habits, even though Disney's original television series are much more famous. Depending on how old you are, there are some that stand out as highlights more than others, but each era of the channel can claim at least a few major hits. 

Is our enjoyment of these films merely the result of looking at the past through rose-colored glasses? That's certainly a part of it. Disney unveiled the complete list of films to premiere on its streaming service Disney Plus via a lengthy Twitter thread Monday. With its powerhouse catalog including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic properties, the full magnitude of the Disney empire will be seen once the streaming service launches. Along with Disney originals previously announced like “Star Wars” live action series “The Mandalorian” and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” viewers in search of nostalgic watches can find dozens of titles from Disney, Disney channel, Disney direct-to-home video and Fox joining the streaming service come Nov. 12.

Feature films start off with the 1937 version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and continues with quintessential feature films such as “Fantasia,” “Dumbo” and “Cinderella.”

The Avengers I have had a chance to watch The Avengers on Blu-ray and have listened to exactly 6:02 minutes of Joss Whedon's commentary so far with plans on finishing tonight and delivering an article for you tomorrow or the following day. The speed in which I finish depends on Joss, however, as he already tends to be very loquacious. Otherwise, the film looks and sounds great and I did get a chance to watch the "Agent 47" short film (or Marvel One-Shot as they refer to it) with Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford, which wasn't too bad, but it was a short film, which means there wasn't much to expect. If you believe filmmaker Charlie Foley, whose “documentary” Mermaids: The Body Found aired this past weekend on Animal Planet as part of “Monster Week,” then yes.

The speculative documentary (a.k.a. not real. A mermaid is not going to attack you while you nap on the beach, okay?) explored the myth of the underwater princess — but she’s not the sweet-singing Disney version.
