Never Ashamed

I enjoyed the movie because it represents christian life situations. It brings out the fact that not all church youth groups are what they are supposed to be. Tim didn't get the kind of encouragement he should have received from his new christian friends. One should not be surprised to find youth groups or churches luke warm. The person on fire for Jesus may find it difficult, not only to stand for christ in the world, but also to be on fire around other believers. This movie gives a realistic picture about Christianity as it is lived out in American society. I highly recommend this movie.

Watching Never Ashamed I was thinking of a crack that an ABC TV executive made about Kirk Cameron when Kirk was on Growing Pains and after having become a fundamentalist Christian was starting to use his star power with the network. One of them rather exasperated asked why he couldn't have drug issues like the other teen idols.

That's how the father of young Tim Elwell feels about the fact that he sent his misbehaving son off to a Christian camp. He was afraid he'd come back a Bible-banger and sure enough Tim has. The film deals with how new born agains are supposed to react to their environment which in this case is Elwell's high school world.

You will not have heard any of these players in Never Ashamed so no use mentioning them. The acting is on a high school level, the direction non existent.

It's not a realistic picture of the youth in the Ronald Reagan eighties let alone have anyone in 2018 take this seriously.

This Film, released in 1984 is about a teenager who is arrested along with his best friend Marty after they steal an ice cream truck. Tim's Parents(Dad Being a talk show host!)send him to a Christian Camp because they want to "Shape up his behavior." With the warning "Don't become a born again bible-banger", he is hustled off to camp. Keep in mind that his parents are not Christians.

Despite the warning, He gives his life to Christ. He does the very thing his parents don't want. What do you expect from a kid when you send him to a Christian Camp? Truth is, he does a lot more than just "Shape up his behavior." His whole life has changed!

Now he has several new problems he have to deal with. Not the least, is his non Christian parents who want him to be the "All American Boy" Isn't that what got him into trouble in the first place? Then, his best friend Marty who is running for class president-"Party with Marty" is his slogan. Since Tim no longer believed in what Marty Stood for, what to do? What do you now you're a Christian and Marty isn't? Then his lukewarm Christian friends do nothing but talk.

After his initial failures to take a stand for his faith(like chickening out when he is asked to read his paper "The most important thing in the world to me" out loud in class) He realizes that Jesus wanted a greater commitment from him.

Despite the conflicts with his parents and Marty, Tim decides to Join a Bible study group at school and to show the love of Christ by helping others. It comes to the point when he have to put his life on the line.

The last 5 minutes is a Gem! I won't give it away, let's just say that it will warm your heart and be an encouragement to you!
