R-Rated Movies Into Kids’ Cartoons: Toxic Crusaders
Image
Kids’ Media is one of the most lucrative things you can get into. Really, advertising anything to children is and has always been the way to go. Remember when cigarette companies tried to appeal to children with how cool it was? While that has gone away, although E-Cigs definitely go for the subliminal approach, getting stuff out there to kids is big business. From the wholesome like Bluey and Miss Rachel to today’s topic, The Toxic Avenger, wait what? Yeah, today we are talking about one of the surprisingly many R rated, or at least not aimed at children, properties that were directly turned into a kid’s property,...

Artist Matt Bors Shares ‘Toxic Crusaders’ Trading Cards from ‘Toxic Avenger’ Comics [Exclusive]
Image
While you wait for The Toxic Avenger to hit theaters on August 29, Toxie is tearing through multiple comic books from Ahoy Comics.

The Toxie Team-Up mini-series launched in June, The Toxic Avenger Comics #1 kicked off a new ongoing series last month with the next issue dropping on August 13, and a five-part Toxic Crusaders run is set to begin on September 10 and continue on October 15.

Matt Bors is creating trading cards featuring the mutant crew to accompany the comics, and we have an exclusive look at Fungirl, Nozone, and Major Disaster below.

The Toxic Avenger Comics is written by Bors with different artists contributing to each issue. #1 features art by Fred Harper, while #2 has Felipe Sobreiro in addition to Harper.

In issue #1, kids are disappearing from Toxie’s hometown of Tromaville, NJ. Did they simply run away from the chemically polluted town, or is the real explanation even more frightening?

‘Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD’ – Troma’s Other Body-Horror-Inspired Superhero!
Image
Some filmmakers are just so sincere that they’re incapable of making a soulless product even when actively attempting to sell out. One of my favorite examples of this is the career of Troma co-founder and master of schlock, Lloyd Kaufman. From the Toxic Crusaders cartoon to the director’s fondness for cash-grab sequels, Uncle Lloyd has never shied away from more commercial endeavors so long as the patrons don’t get in the way of his unique, anti-corporate vision.

And among the filmmaker’s numerous attempts at translating the underground appeal of Troma to a wider audience, the bizarre production of Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD happens to be one of the most fascinating. While this deeply odd superhero flick wasn’t as big of a hit as The Toxic Avenger (and Kaufman himself considered it a disappointment for many years), I’d argue that the clownish antics of Kabukiman resulted...

Toxic Avenger Resurrects Iconic 35-Year-Old Piece of Movie Lore
Image
Peter Dinklage's Toxic Avengerhas officially resurrected the Moviefone telephone line more than a decade after it closed.

Per Bloody Disgusting, the long-lost Moviefone telephone line has officially returned. Rather than hearing the iconic "Hello, and welcome to Moviefone!" automated message, however, callers will instead be greeted by none other than Dinklage himself in the form of Toxie. Since the promotion between Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting began on Aug. 1, fans have been able call 1-802-377-film to hear Peter Dinklage in character as he reads show-times for the film, offers tips on purchasing tickets, and re-enacts scenes from the trailer for the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot.

Cineverse SVP of Marketing Lauren McCarthy said of the promotion, "We are thrilled to bring fans (writer-director) Macon Blair’s hilarious, punk-rock, heart-warming film alongside the imitable nostalgia of the Moviefone number. This toxi-rific pairing is just the latest installment in our...

The Toxic Avenger Reboot's Popcorn Bucket Is Not Very Appetizing
Image
The new version of The Toxic Avenger is finally coming to movie theaters, and it comes with a popcorn bucket that's perfect for the film. Of course, that also means that it's not very appetizing.

In a post shared online, the Cinemark theater chain unveiled their official Toxic Avenger popcorn bucket. Appropriately, it's in the form of a toxic waste barrel, a reference to the chemicals that cause the titular monster's transformation. Added details make the bucket look rusty with green ooze seeping out from the top. It comes with a lid with a hazard sign on top, and a look inside reveals that the interior appears smeared with green slime. It may be among the more unusual popcorn buckets seen in recent years, but Toxie would be proud.

Iconic '90s Series Biker Mice From Mars Unveils 2 Exclusive Figurine Sets Ahead Of Sdcc
Image
Everyone's favorite anthropomorphic biker trio is rolling into San Diego Comic-Con 2025, and it's all thanks to The Nacelle Company! Biker Mice from Mars, which first premiered in 1993, has been a lasting icon of '90s pop culture, even leading to a revival series in 2006 and a comic book exploring their origins. Created by Rick Ungar, the show follows the eponymous group of mice from Mars, who fled their home planet to escape war and landed on Earth.

Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie are a rebellious trio plotting vengeance on the Plutarkians in order to safely return to Mars, destroyed though it may be. Its tone is similar to other beloved cartoons of the era, including Street Sharks, Toxic Crusaders, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — but Biker Mice from Mars managed to surpass its competitors in terms of sheer action, despite the lack of gruesome blood spatter.

Over 30 years later, The Nacelle...

Toxie Is Mean, Green, And Violently Fighting Crime In New Trailer For Unrated The Toxic Avenger
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie.

A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.

Back to those reviews, and much of the praise heaped on The Toxic Avenger is featured heavily in the second half of this latest sneak peek. And yes, that's not a lie: this movie will release "unrated."

While Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage lends his voice to Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro, an actor and movement artist, donned the...

‘The Toxic Avenger’: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
Remember the cult hit from 1984 that made Troma Entertainment notorious for its schlockiness? Finally, The Toxic Avenger is returning to the big screen once again. The franchise has been equally funny, brutal, and strangely charming. The original film mixed slapstick violence with a bit of satire. After many decades, the reboot looks to be authentic to its roots while introducing something new for the younger audience.

However, the path to this remake has not been easy. After premiering to a select audience, the film mysteriously disappeared. The movie even had big names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Guillermo Del Toro attached to it at some points. Now that it appears to be finished, let’s explore the actors, storyline, and all the relevant details on this radioactive resurrection.

Everything We Know About the Toxic Avenger Remake
Luisa Guerreiro in The Toxic Avenger (2023)
Back in 1984, Troma Entertainment brought the world The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), a film about “the first superhero from New Jersey.” That film spawned a franchise, leading to The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989), Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000), a stage musical, and an animated series called Toxic Crusaders. For a long time, we’ve been hearing that Troma wanted to make a Toxic Avenger 5 – but instead doing that, they have loaned out the rights to Legendary Pictures, allowing them to make a remake of the original film that’s set to reach theatres on August 29th, courtesy of Cineverse. In anticipation of the film’s long-awaited release, we have put together a list of Everything We Know About the Toxic Avenger Remake… and here we go:

A Teaser Trailer Has Been Released For Peter Dinklage’s ‘Toxic Avenger’ Which Will Finally Be Released Later This Year
Image
The Toxic Avenger is a 2023 American superhero black comedy splatter film written and directed by Macon Blair. It is the fifth installment in a reboot of The Toxic Avenger film series. There was a time after the film was finally complete when fans wondered if they would ever see it.

It was recently revealed that ‘Toxic Avenger’ will be released this summer, on August 29, 2025. Emmy winner Peter Dinklage will play the Toxic Avenger! The film will follow janitor Winston Gooze, who, after a freak accident, transforms into a mutant vigilante known as Toxie. Armed with his mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters, and corrupt CEOs to save his relationship with his son.

In December 2018, Legendary Pictures won the rights to reboot The Toxic Avenger, with the original’s producers, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment, returning. In March 2019, Macon Blair was announced to write and direct. Of the script,...

The Toxic Avenger Gets A Bloody, Weird Teaser Trailer That Will Leave Jaws (Literally) On The Floor
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived and it's violent, weird, and unhinged...which we're guessing is pretty much everything you'd want from a movie featuring the beloved Troma Entertainment cult hero.

Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews at film festivals in 2023 (the movie has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's been a battle to get The Toxic Avenger into theaters and, when it is finally released this summer, it will be unrated.

Based on the jaw-dropping gore - that's not hyperbole; someone literally loses their jaw here - it's not exactly hard to see why this movie didn't receive an R or even Nc-17 rating from the MPAA.

"The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature," director Macon Blair recently said, "with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new...

The Toxic Avenger Reboot Photos Reveal Best Look Yet at the New Toxie
Image
New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.

Previously, very little had been revealed from the remake. The only shot that's been released of Toxie was from behind the character, keeping his appearance mostly a mystery. Per Entertainment Weekly, that has changed with brand-new images released of the new Toxie. Check out the new photos below.

In the film, Dinklage plays Winston Gooze, a chemical factory janitor who becomes transformed into a monstrous mutant after a freak industrial accident. He uses his newfound superhuman strength to become a vigilante, targeting the town's criminals. EW reports that actor and movement artist Luisa Guerreiro provides the physical performance of Toxie underneath the makeup and costume.

Fans of The Toxic Avenger have just been given the news they have been wanting to hear for a very long time now – the reboot of the cult classic franchise is finally getting a theatrical release in 2025. However, that is as good as the news gets right now, as an exact date for the movie’s long-delayed debut in theaters has not yet been decided. But, we take what we can get, right?

The Toxic Avenger has been one of the most frustrating movies of the last several years. Now director Macon Blair has finally confirmed that the film will not be scrapped and left to languish in a vault (as many started to fear it would) and in a statement revealed the good news that Toxie’s return to the big screen is happening this year, with Cineverse set to distribute the movie as an unrated release. Trick or Treat Studios Teases Major “Fallout” Line With Halloween Masks
Image
After making huge waves out of last year’s Toy Fair, Trick or Treat Studios is at the annual Halloween Party Expo to share a handful of new products slated for 2025.

While John Squires unveils some of the more horror-related goodies, I’m excited to share a first look at Trick or Treat’s “Fallout” masks, which are just the first in a major line that will include power armor helmet replicas, Halloween decor, weapon replicas, and so much more.

These “Retro” masks are made of hard plastic that can be placed over the front of the face, while the regular “Vault Boy/Girl” masks will be vinyl whole-head masks.

Take a look below…

These are just a couple products that Trick or Treat Studios has given us sneak preview first looks at here on Bloody Disgusting, and you’ll find much, much more where they came from by following...

Trick or Treat Studios Supersizes Their ‘Terrifier’ Art the Clown Figure to 12″ Tall! [Halloween Party Expo]
Image
Halloween may seem like a million miles away here in the first weeks of 2025, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking ahead. In fact, the annual Halloween Party Expo just kicked off in Vegas this week, North America’s premiere event for Halloween, party and celebration!

One of the 120+ exhibitors packed into the World Market Center space is Trick or Treat Studios, and they’re previewing a whole bunch of brand new products for this Halloween.

Of particular note for Terrifier fans, Trick or Treat Studios lets us know that a 12″ version of their previously released 5″ Art the Clown figure is coming soon, expected to release this summer. The supersized vinyl figure will come in a beautiful window box display, and also includes Art’s hacksaw accessory. Trick or Treat tells us that the figure will retail for $49.99.

The company also lets Bloody Disgusting know that Rob Zombie...

Toxic Crusaders (1991)
Retroware Updates Development on ‘Toxic Crusaders’ Game, New 2025 Release Window [Video]
Toxic Crusaders (1991)
A new year is upon us, and with it, another “Where is it??” for Retroware’s Toxic Crusaders. It looked to be coming this past Fall (with the demo making that seem all the more likely), but that obviously never happened. So what’s the deal? Retroware has heard your cries, and has released a new development video explaining just where the title is in its current form, and just what’s been going on.

For starters, the team acknowledges the view from some that after the initial reveal and subsequent demo release, the game seemingly “fell off the planet,” which they immediately rebuff by going over the several convention stops where they showcased the game. In amongst getting the assets, cutscenes and the like into the game, the team has been cramming in references to not only the Toxic Avenger series of films, but also every Troma movie in their 50-year catalogue.

A 1980s Trend Followed By Back To The Future, Ghostbusters & Beetlejuice Has Aged Remarkably Well 4 Decades Later
Image
Although few theatrical franchises receive animated TV spinoffs like Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, and Ghostbusters did, this '80s trend predicted major change in 2020s Hollywood. While the blockbuster may have been born in the ‘70s with hits like Jaws, Star Wars, and Alien, the ‘80s was where the movie franchise truly flourished. The aforementioned hits all received sequels that expanded their fictional worlds and earned staggering sums at the box office, but the decade was also home to a slew of huge franchises that continue to this day. These include the Ghostbusters movies, the Gremlins series, and the Back to the Future franchise.

Re-Animated | The odd animated series from big hit movies
Image
Remember when they used to make animated series out of any hit franchise going? Mark Harrison does…

Let’s dive straight in…

Rambo: The Force Of Freedom

In an alternate ending for 1982’s First Blood, traumatised Vietnam War veteran John Rambo commits suicide. However, in post-production, director Ted Kotcheff and writer/star Sylvester Stallone opted for the canon ending where Rambo surrenders.

Had they kept the original, we certainly wouldn’t have four more Rambo sequels, and it might have dented the film’s viability for animated spin-off series as well. As it is, Ruby-Spears Productions created Rambo: The Force Of Freedom, a G.I. Joe-alike action series that ran for 65 episodes in 1986.

Battling the evil organisation S.A.V.A.G.E., Rambo and his “toyetic” friends travel the globe, pausing only to play with animals and teach children how to be good. Stallone was reportedly not best pleased but continued pancaking enemy combatants...

Troma's 'Toxic Crusaders' Rise From the Muck With New Blu-ray Release
Image
At first glance, The Toxic Avenger doesn't seem like the Saturday morning cartoon material. The cult classic superhero film from Troma is known for its high levels of gore, making for a campy and crass low-budget affair that's also one of the creepier movies of its genre. However, in 1991, Toxie managed to clean up his act with a short-lived animated series titled Toxic Crusaders hailing from Troma co-founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz. Now, the B movie production company is bringing the band back together with a digitally remastered Blu-ray containing all 13 episodes of Toxie and friends' adventures. It's set to release on December 10.

‘Toxic Crusaders’ Animated Series Heads to Digitally Remastered Blu-ray from Troma
Image
In the late ’80s and early ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for violent movies like RoboCop and Rambo to be turned into Saturday morning cartoons for kids, but The Toxic Avenger still seemed like an unlikely candidate — until the 1984 low-budget gorefest was cleaned up for “Toxic Crusaders” in 1991.

An environmentally-conscious superhero cartoon in the vein of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Captain Planet,” the show ran for one season. All 13 episodes are coming to Blu-ray from Troma on December 10.

While originally animated on 16mm film, “Toxic Crusaders” was mastered on videotape for broadcast, including all digital effects and transitions. To present the series in the best possible quality, Troma has used advanced AI models to upscale the standard definition masters in high definition to capture the original broadcast’s intended experience.

Special Features for the two-disc set include:

‘Rocky Horror’ Returns in New Video Game | Exclusive Trailer
Image
The 1973 musical “The Rocky Horror Show,” immortalized in the 1975 film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” is getting a side-scrolling video game adaptation. “The Rocky Horror Show Video Game” is set for release next month across major consoles and Steam for computer platforms, timed to the Halloween spooky season.

Befitting the musical nature of “Rocky Horror,” the project even includes chiptune versions of songs from the films — including, but of course, the “Time Warp.” The game features 8-bit-styled graphics bringing the show’s sets and characters to life, combining ’80s nostalgia with the show’s ’70s retro vibes in the release from FreakZone Games and Metal X Entertainment/Bit Bot Media.

“‘The Rocky Horror Show’ is a unique experience that transcends traditional entertainment, and we wanted to bring that magic to gamers — whether they’re already fans of the IP or discovering it for the first time,” producer Joshua Viola said in a Thursday statement.

New Biker Mice from Mars Series Will Explore Their Origin (While Keeping the TV Show's Tone)
Image
New Biker Mice from Mars comic series to explore their origin story while maintaining the tone and style of the original '90s animated series. The cover art released ahead of the series' release hints at unadulterated, kid-friendly badassery with a nod to Akira. The series will delve into dark themes without going overly dark, staying true to the beloved zaniness of the classic Biker Mice from Mars.

Biker Mice from Mars is easily one of the most hardcore cartoons of the 90s era, even when compared to other shows of its kind like Street Sharks, Toxic Crusaders, and - of course - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And now, the iconic Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie are having their origin stories fully explored for the first time in the franchises history in an all-new Oni Press comic series, one that promises to stay true to the TV shows original tone and style.

The Most Iconic Horror Movies That'd Make Great Cartoons
Image
Horror movies have a long history of infiltrating Saturday morning television, yet many iconic films never received cartoon adaptations. In a medium where Beetlejuice is a mischievous prankster, Audrey II is a rapping prehistoric plant, and The Mummy’s Imhotep brought pulp-inspired adventures to the small screen, horror found a home and a younger audience. However, this raises questions about the limits of a Y-7 rating, the potential for other characters to have their own cartoons, and whether these adaptations could do justice to their respective franchises. As numerous horror enthusiasts clutch their remotes, pondering what could have been, perhaps it's not too late to entertain the idea of a fresh wave of creepy cartoons.

Whether it was the Addams Family, King Kong, or the incomparable Vincent Price, animation always felt like a second home for countless horror icons. Often serving as a gateway for young horror enthusiasts, cartoons often...
