I'm thinking the guy who wrote the other review has his films mixed up, but the "Nightshade" film I know fits the Plot Summary so listed above. Director Scott stars as the title character, a judge who vanished after his wife's murder by crooks to become a dark-clothed vigilante bent on revenge. This cheap and goofy film's running time is mainly split between the stupid escapades of the none-too-bright criminals and the brooding heaviness of Nightshade, who has made his headquarters in an abandoned garage along with his sidekick Primus, who knows a lot more about his partner than he lets on. The film doesn't hold up to well in the artistic and technical departments, with lots of logic holes and sloppy camera-work to amaze and awe. However, some of the gore effects are fairly well done, including a scene where Primus tears the arm off one of the criminals and beats him to death with it! I haven't seen this film in some years, but that scene sticks out pretty well in my memory. Not the worse thing ever made, nor the best.
