It's a great game! Prior to the game's and the system it was for which was the NES, the home video game system industry was in a funk. The industry crashed in 1983, and it seemed dead completely. That was until Nintendo released this game. This is one of my all time faves to play! I never get tired of playing this game, even though I've beaten it quite a few times. LONG LIVE MARIO, AND LUIGI!!!
Super Mario was REALLY an excellent game. It didn't really matter how primitive it was, it was pure fun. I've been playing it since I was young and I really got a kick out of it. But alas, I have no more NES, so I play Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. But still the original is one of the best.
Super Mario Bros. is still one of the best games ever. The game has a strange concept and the graphics aren't nearly as good as anything today, but it's a classic. It's a challenging game, with famous Mario and his brother Luigi, that will never be forgotten.

it's extremely DIFFICULT. I have been playing this game since it was like 2 years old, and I still haven't been able to beat it! That proves how wimpy modern N64 platform games have become, since I am able to easily defeat its 1996 counterpart.
But the graphics for this game and its sometimes-cartridge-partner, Duck Hunt, seem quite advanced for 1985 and 1984 (respectively). At least compared to games like Excitebike (1984) and The Legend of Zelda (1986). The music is nice (although the dungeon and the castle music gets repetitive) and sound effects are cool. Once you've beaten this game, there's no need to play it anymore, but if you haven't, like me, you'll be wanting to keep playing until you beat it, and frustrated if you fail.
But this game is the same age as me, and I still play it at my friends house if they're hogging the Super Smash Bros. (I haven't beaten it yet.)

Although surpassed in graphics and complexity by todays' games, Super Mario Bros. remains a truly fun experience and a generational milestone. From the classic, catchy, unforgettable theme, to the simple fun of saving the princess, Super Mari Bros proves that solid fun gameplay is what mater most in a game. It is still hailed as a favorite despite its age.

- TriviaShigeru Miyamoto had originally wanted to give Mario a dinosaur to ride on for the game, unfortunately the hardware limitations of the NES wouldn't allow for it. He was able to finally fulfill his wish in Super Mario World (1990), which ran on the far more powerful Super NES, and named the dinosaur Yoshi.
- ErroresAt the beginning of the first level of each world (except for the first one), it shows Mario standing in front of the castle, which he had just previously cleared in the previous world. However, at the beginning of World 5, the castle is only a mini fortress instead of a full-sized castle like it should be.

Mushroom Retainer: [repeated line; after Mario or Luigi defeats Bowser] Thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle!
- Versiones alternativasIn 2010, Nintendo released a limited edition red variant of the Wii console as a part of celebrating the Super Mario series' 25th anniversary. As a bonus, this version of the system came pre-loaded with "25th Anniversary Super Mario Bros", a modified version of the original NES game. The only difference is the graphics for the item blocks, which now have the number "25" on them instead of questions marks.
