The name of Inspector Ghote (pronounced Go-tay) is a joke, a reference to something usually attributed to George Bernard Shaw and his war against the English Language. An earlier spelling reformer proposed that the word "fish" could, using the ridiculous rules of the English language, be spelled "ghoti". "Gh" as in enough, "o" as in women, and "ti" as in nation. It can also be a completely silent word.

Years later director Sanjay Gupta was looking for the Perfect Murder's director Zafar Hai. The reason being was Gupta was making the film "Shootout At Wadala" that was based in the 1970's . Gupta loved how Zafar Hai shot the scenes of Bombay in the introduction scene. Gupta was spellbound with the execution and wanted Zafar's advise and assistance while shooting similar scenes in Shootout at Wadala. He was not able to locate him.
Karan Kapoor was the first choice to play Stellan Skarsgard's role. But the director decided against it because he thought Karan was a bad actor.
Zeenat Aman was offered the role of Miss Twinkle but declined the role. It was then done by Archana Puran Singh.
H.R.F. Keating: Writer, around eight minutes into the movie. After Inspector Ghote attacks Inspector Svensson thinking he is a diamond smuggler. When the real diamond smuggler realizes that his courier tiny man (Annu Kapoor) has fled, he decides to take a flight out of India and goes to ticketing counter to inquire for the next flight. H. R. F. Keating appears as passenger on the ticket counter in scene.
