Stanley R. Jaffe, the Oscar-winning producer and studio executive known for films such as “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Fatal Attraction,” has died at his home in Rancho Mirage at the age of 84. His daughter, Betsy Jaffe, confirmed his passing.

Born in New Rochelle, New York, Jaffe was the son of Columbia Pictures chairman Leo Jaffe, who received the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1979. He pursued a career in the entertainment industry, earning an economics degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1962 before starting at Seven Arts as an assistant to co-founder Eliot Hyman.

Jaffe’s early success as a producer came with “Goodbye, Columbus” (1969), based on Philip Roth’s novella. The film, directed by Larry Peerce and starring Richard Benjamin and Ali MacGraw, became a hit for Paramount and led Gulf & Western president Charles Bluhdorn to offer Jaffe a leadership role at the studio.

Stanley R. Jaffe, a former Paramount Pictures president who became the youngest studio chief in history and later won a Best Picture Oscar for producing Kramer vs. Kramer and was nominated for Fatal Attraction, died today. He was 84.

CAA, which repped Jaffe, confirmed his death to Deadline.

Jaffe was a decade into his career when he produced Kramer vs. Kramer, the riveting 1979 child-custody drama starring Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, both winning lead acting Oscars — Streep’s first of three. It also scored Best Director and Adapted Screenplay Oscars for director Robert Benton.

He followed that by producing Taps, about a mutiny at a soon-to-close military academy, starred Timothy Hutton and launched the careers of such future stars as Tom Cruise, Sean Penn and Giancarlo Esposito.

Connie Chiume, a South African actress who appeared in Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Beyoncé’s Black Is King, has died. She was 72.

Chiume died Tuesday at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, her family announced on Instagram. Her cause of death wasn’t immediately available.

“The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume,” they wrote in a statement. “The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.”

Born on June 5, 1952, in Welkom, South Africa, Chiume trained as a nurse and graduated with a teaching degree prior to finding her way into the movie and television industry, The Independent reported. It wasn’t until 1977 that she started her career as an actor, moving to Greece to join the cast of the musical Sola Sola.

Lance Reddick was one of the best actors working in Hollywood, which made his sudden death on March 17 all the more devastating. His role as Charon in the "John Wick" franchise was just one of the many characters he brought to the screen with depth and precision. Truly shocking news today, as it’s being reported that actor Lance Reddick, a staple of the John Wick franchise from the beginning, has passed away at just 60 years old.

TMZ reports, “Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … Lance’s body was discovered at his Studio City home Friday morning around 9:30 Am. His cause of death is currently unclear, but our law enforcement sources say it appears to be natural.”

Chariots Of Fire actor Nigel Havers leads the tributes to UK film and commercials director Hugh Hudson who passed away at the age of 86 on Friday (February 10).

The actor called starring in Hudson’s 1981 classic ”one of the greatest experiences of my professional life” and said he was “beyond devastated” by the news. “Like so many others, I owe much of what followed to him. I shall miss him greatly.”

Antonio Banderas, who starred in Hudson’s 2016 Spanish-language film Altamira, said on Twitter: ”Good bye mister Hudson.

Hugh Hudson, best known as the director of the 1981 film Chariots of Fire, has passed away at age 86. Hugh Hudson, the Oscar-nominated director of the classic British film “Chariots of Fire,” has died. He was 86.

Hudson died after battling a short illness, according to The Guardian, which first reported the news Friday.

“Hugh Hudson, 86, beloved husband and father, died at Charing Cross hospital on 10 February after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Maryam, his son Thomas and his first wife Sue,” Hudson’s family said in a statement.

Hudson, notably the director of 1981 Best Picture winner Chariots of Fire, hasn’t helmed a feature since the lambasted 2000 Kim Basinger film I Dreamed of Africa, a noted passion project for the actress. His latest, Altamira, looks to be a historical reenactment, and will hopefully prove to be Hudson’s welcome return to feature films, which is why it makes our list. Banderas will play Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, a Spanish jurist and amateur archeologist who made the discovery of the Altamira Cave with his nine-year-old daughter Maria. Featuring painting of bison, horses, a doe and human hands, made with charcoal and ochre, these were the first Paleolithic cave paintings of their type to be discovered.

Esteemed British filmmaker Hugh Hudson is coming out of retirement to direct a new family movie.

The man behind Chariots of Fire and the flop I Dreamed of Africa stepped back from the spotlight a decade ago, but he has been persuaded to return to the set for Midnight Sun, a film he co-wrote.

The feel-good movie revolves around a child who befriends a stranded polar bear cub, according to Variety.

English filmmaker Hugh Hudson started out as an editor of documentaries in the 1960s, and before long was making his own. Yet it is for his first narrative feature Chariots of Fire for which Hudson is best known. The biopic that followed the harrowing drama of two contentious track stars running in the 1924 Olympics won critical acclaim and four Oscars, including Best Picture. However despite this early success, Hudson's career as a film director sputtered, then came to a screeching halt in 2000, after the Kim Basinger-fronted biopic I Dreamed of Africa proved to be major flop critically and at the box office. Since then, his only screen effort has been a little-known documentary called Rupture: A Matter of Life Or Death, which he created for BBC4. The festival announced the lineup of films for its 2011 edition in a press conference today chaired by Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (Mami) chairman Shyam Benegal, Amit Khanna, Shabana Azmi, Ashutosh Gowarikar, and festival director Srinivasan Narayanan.

Bennett Miller’s Moneyball that stars Brad Pitt will be the opening film of the festival while Morgan Freeman starrer Charles Martin Smith’s Dolphin Tale will be the closing film.

Through the years, early May has evolved into the start of the summer movie season, even though the actual summer doesn't begin for another month and a half. This year is no exception with the release of Iron Man 2, which follows in the footsteps of the first Iron Man, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 among past early May/summer kick-offs. Five Years Ago - 2005 While early May had seen huge numbers before 2005, this weekend was anemic as far as summer starts go. Director Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven was the would-be event picture, being a historical epic positioned to repeat Scott's Gladiator success in 2000. But its Medieval subject matter was less appealing and its marketing less focused than Gladiator, leading to a relatively modest $19.6 million debut at 3,216 theaters. Additionally, few cared enough to see Paris Hilton get slaughtered in House of Wax, the weekend's other major release that opened to $12.1 million at 3,111 sites.

Producer Vicky Licorish (Goodbye, Mr. Steadman) has recently completed a labour of love in the shape of 'Small Island', a drama from Ruby Television in association with Al Films for BBC, which chronicles the intertwining lives and loves of Jamaicans and Londoners in the 1940s where English landlords' signs reading 'No Irish, No Coloureds, No Dogs' appeared to be the message of almost an entire country. 'Small Island' was filmed in Belfast and Jamaica during February / March 2009, with a few days also spent shooting in Dublin. The crew shot for six weeks in Belfast having transformed parts of the city into post war London. The drama feature, which is expected to broadcast as two 90 minute pieces, is adapted from Andrea Levy's novel of the same name, directed by John Alexander (The Shadow in the North) and adapted by Paula Milne (I Dreamed of Africa). In more adaptation-y news from Cannes, Kevin Spacey, Colin Firth and director Hugh Hudson (Chariots Of Fire) have signed on for a big-screen adaptation of George Orwell's Homage To Catalonia. Literary icon, satirist, animal lover: there were many strings to George Orwell's bow, but it's less well known that he was also a rifle-toting socialist who was gunned down fighting fascists in the Spanish Civil War. Needless to say, he got up again and his Chumbawamba-style recovery is recorded in Homage To Catalonia, written on his return to England in 1938. It should provide a rich backdrop for the Hudson's first film since 1990's I Dreamed Of Africa. Catalonia will be magicked into script form by veteran screenwriter Bob Ellis, who will focus on the relationship between Orwell and Georges Kopp, the charismatic commander in the International Brigade with whom he formed a strong bond. Kim Basinger ignored husband Alec Baldwin's criticisms of her latest movie - because the wildlife-loving actress believes it is her destiny to play an animal rights activist. Basinger's role in I Dreamed of Africa (2000) has her playing Kuki Gallmann - a pampered Italian who survived the deaths of her husband and son by fighting for conservation on a troubled continent. Basinger says, "In a way, I'm part of Kuki Gallmann's journey and she has become a part of mine. It's eerie but it's sort of wonderful."
