Que les hommes sont bêtes

It was to be productor /director Roger Richebé 's last movie though he died more than thirty years later.This director has a very bad reputation ,often unjustified .

"Que les hommes sont bêtes " (=how silly men are" ) is a funny little comedy,with an astute screenplay, no vulgarity and fine actors.

Dany Carrel is well cast as a cashier from a Montmartre bar who passes herself off as a millionaire to seduce a notary whose safe contains 50 million francs coveted by two two-bit gangsters (Pierre Mondy and Jean lefèvre);her pairing with highly talented François Périer works well on the screen : their visit to the castle and the legend they tell in this place lead the notary to embezzzle his funds for the would be millionaire's love.

The gangsters have a big problem:to force a safe is not their forte and they are compelled to hire a retired specialist (Fernand Sardou) who is impossibly demanding;to make the matters worse, there's a also a running (by night) in the notary's little town and the gendarmes are here there and everywhere.

I'd tone things a bit for the final free-for -all which is too heavy-handed ;but it remains an entertaing comedy,well acted.
