Quai du Point-du-Jour

Faurez's last movie and his weakest :after estimable works such as " La Fille Aux Yeux Gris" and "La Vie En Rose" ,"Quai Du Point Du Jour " is a big disappointment;actually it looks as though time has stood still since the mid-thirties when noble gents tried to save the girls in distress from the pimps. The gent here is a working-class hero ,he has worked for the Renault factories for years and years and now he is 50 .Raymond Bussières (who wrote the script) and who plays the lead ,probably remembered the time of the "Groupe Octobre ",an association of commie artists in the thirties doing agit-prop ;Jacques Prévert wrote for them and he wrote lines for Bussières too,when he was part of the cast of"Les Portes De La Nuit". In 1960,however ,the workers -we all stand together and we are stronger than all of you,you faggots!"- take a rebel stand ,but not against capitalism and bosses -the mind boggles!- ,they fight against the pimps who want an innocent girl (Dany Carrel)to be a streetwalker against her will . It's always nice to see Sylvie ,this time playing a kind Grannie ;and Philippe Lemaire on his crane is a good moment of fun;Colette Renard sings the title song.But it does not make a good movie for all that.
