In no mood to celebrate, Lataji has quietly launched her music label Lm Music with an album of Bhajans dedicated to Swami Samarth Of Akkalkot. The lavish launch party that was planned for 18th November was indefinitely postponed after Balasaheb Thackeray's death. Interestingly Lataji sings with her youngest sister Usha after many years. The two sisters sang a number of hit film songs in the 1950s and 60s like 'Apalam Chaplam' (Azad), 'Kis Kaaran Kamini Sharmaye' (Chandan Ka Palna) and 'Bahe Jaiye Na Rani' (Sabse Bda Rupaiya). Subsequently, Lataji elected to keep a discreet distance to allow her youngest sibling to blossom as a solo singer. Now the eldest born of the Mangeshkar family and the youngest have come together to sing for the first album on Lataji's own label. Says Lataji, "It is always a pleasure to sing with Usha. She's a fine singer in her own right. We've...

Click above for more on the sets stills Arjun Rampal who turned a year older on 26/11 isn't quite sure whether director Madhur Bhandarkar planned it. But when he reached the set for the first day of shooting for Heroine, Arjun was told that it's his character's birthday and that he would be doing a cake-cutting sequence with his co-star Kareena Kapoor. According to a source, Arjun plays an on-the-rise actor who latches on to the top actress of the day. Any resemblance to the equation that Dharmendra shared with Meena Kumari when they did films like Phool Aur Patthar, Kajal, Purnima, Bharaon Ki Manzil Chandan Ka Palna and Majhli Didi together is purely coincidental. The birthday sequence that Bhandarkar shot for Arjun's character fell on Arjun's birthday. Filmy folklore has it that Meena Kumari celebrated Dharmendra's birthday on the sets of one of their films together and even insisted...

As you all know we are both lovers of all things Bollywood but there are classics and there are classics - but one film that has always touched a chord with us is Kamal Amrohi’s Pakeezah.
Hollywood had the likes of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Marlene Dietrich – larger than life stars whose acting prowess and star power was superseded, enhanced and redefined by their melodramatic high-octane personal lives. For us the legendary Meena Kumari is on par from the Indian Film Industry.
From the child artist controlled by her father - who had initially left her in an orphanage at birth - to the superstar tragedienne in movies such as Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi, Dil Ek Mandir Hai, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Chandan Ka Palna, Aarti; Kaajal, and Main Chup Rahungi. Meena was an artist of stature and probably one of the first Bollywood female superstars who...
