Image
Malayalee from India Movie Review Rating:

Star Cast: Nivin Pauly, Anaswara Rajan, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Deepak Jethi

Director: Dijo Jose Antony

Malayalee from India Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)

What’s Good: Nivin Pauly’s performance injects energy and charm, especially in comedic moments alongside Dhyan’s Malghosh. Additionally, Deepak Jethi’s portrayal of a Pakistani figure brings moments of genuine emotion to the story.

What’s Bad: The film’s disjointed script and overstretched duration dampen its impact and engagement.

Loo Break: About half an hour into the film, during the song Krishna.

Watch or Not?: If you enjoy Nivin Pauly’s performances and are okay with a somewhat disjointed storyline, it might be worth a watch for its sporadic feel-good moments and political commentary. However, you should pass on this if you prefer more cohesive narratives.

Language: Malayalam

Three Rivers (2009)
Three Rivers brings Indian projects to Diff
Three Rivers (2009)
Dubai Film Market is introducing a selection of Indian projects for the first time this year through a partnership with Europe’s Pjlf Three Rivers Residency.

The five projects are being scripted by hot new talents such as Kanu Behl, whose debut feature Titli premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2014, and Raj Rishi More, whose project is being produced by The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra.

The Three Rivers residency provides writer-directors with a month-long distraction-free space to work on their scripts in the Italian countryside, with the help of an expert mentor, before presenting their projects at Diff. Although focusing on Indian projects in its first year, the organisers hope to open the programme to international writer-directors, including those from the Arab world, from next year.

“We feel writers sometimes need a much more concentrated period to hone their ideas and get away from all the distractions of a day job and daily life,” said producer...

In Conversation with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and his tale of Mirzya
From the heartbreaking but brilliant Rang De Basanti, to the wonderful Delhi 6, to the inspiring Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has brought Indian cinema some of its greatest films.

With his film Mirzya, he has now turned his focus on the Punjabi folk tale Mirza-Sahiban, but presenting it in a unique way. Interweaving the legendary folklore with a contemporary version, this musical brings out the story of a love that will never die. Joining him in transforming this story is the esteemed writer and poet Gulzar. Adding to the worlds of Mirzya is music by the great Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.

Mirzya introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary. Also bringing the story to life are the screen masters, Om Puri, Art Malik, and K. K. Raina.

Some of my absolute favorite interviews to conduct are with directors because they just love talking about their movies.

Ancient Aliens: Was Shiva the Destroyer an alien leader?
This week’s Ancient Aliens examines whether the ancient Hindu god Shiva could have been an extraterrestrial. The experts discuss whether the deity, sometimes known as Shiva the Destroyer, was in fact the leader of an alien group who brought advanced technology to Earth. Shiva is one of a trinity of major gods in Hinduism. The name is Sanskrit and means The Auspicious One. More famously he is also known as the Creator, the Preserver and the Destroyer. American theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer quoted Shiva’s fellow deity Krishna after the first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945. He said: “Now I...read more...

Suniel Shetty to star in forthcoming Sidharth Malhotra Jacqueline Fernandez starrer
Suniel Shetty
While Suniel Shetty has been spotted in special appearances and extended cameos of late, he will be seen playing a role with shades of grey for the upcoming Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer that is apparently titled Reloaded. On the other hand, Suniel Shetty's character will be a suave one and we hear that the actor will also be styled accordingly in formals, will sport a beard and moustache. However, it is also being said that the film spans a decade with all the characters continuing their cat and mouse chase. Suniel's character too will age and he will further be seen donning the salt and pepper look. In fact, the actor is also said to undergo rigorous training since he will be doing a few action sequences in the film. He will soon take off to Malaysia to complete yet another schedule of the film there and...

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Music Review
Director Sooraj Barjatya is back with his eternal Prem (Salman Khan) in tow in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which looks a fun throwback to the Rajshri blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hain. He’s roped in Himesh Reshammiya, who is no stranger to retro sounds with his composing work, which is both his weakness and strength to haters and fans. Yet Reshammiya shows that he’s up to task in recreating the big and grand spectacles of the Rajshri songs. If we were to compare the soundtrack to a food, it’s like a comfort food that delivers the goods for that short while, which is part of the Rajshri treatment that we’re getting after so long.

The album kicks off with Prem Leela, which is a big and brassy number that was unveiled last week. The song is your characteristic Salman song with the loud dhols and drums,...

A Look Back: Dhols & Ghoonghats – Navratri Bollywood Ishtyle
It is where hearts meet, auntyjis gossip and kids have a blast. Navratri shin-digs are the ‘it’ get togethers in the Desi calendar every year. It’s a nine day long festive period where everyone joins in daily for a night of song and dance. Apart from being the social get together of the year the festival has a strong religious meaning. It celebrates nine forms of Goddess Durga, one on each night, hence the name nav-nine ratri-nights. The 10th day is the festival of Dashera, marking the ultimate triumph of good over evil in Indian history.

Unlike any other usual festival, navratri songs and dance are specific. They have a distinct beat and the dance form adopted is garba or dandiya. The song and dance routine of the night, garba or dandiya, also have a strong historical backing as depicts the rasa-lila between Lord Krishna and the gopis of Vrindavan.

Finding Fanny in Trouble (Again): Ban Petitioned for the Use of Vulgar Word ‘Fanny’
The release of Finding Fanny has run into an obstacle, as a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking a ban on the release of director Homi Adajania’s new film, due to its use of the “vulgar word” ‘fanny”.

As reported by Ians, the public interest litigation (Pil) also challenged the UA certificate given to the film, which is scheduled to release on Friday.

Although ‘fanny’ is the short form of the popular name Stephanie, it is also a slang word that may refer to the female genitals or the buttocks. The petition claims that the word has a highly sexually explicit meaning, so its use in the film will hurt the feelings of the citizens of India, especially minor children.

The Pil was filed by Nandini Tiwari and Ngo Jai Jagriti Foundation through their lawyer Abhishek Krishna. They consider that the word ‘fanny’ is...

Blog Review: Krrish 3
Usually people fear the moment they have to take back their words but when it comes to films I genuinely welcome someone proving me wrong, if it means that a film is better than I expected. No denying that I pegged Krrish 3 to be the biggest disaster of all times. Why? Well to me Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish were mega disasters so to expect the third film in the series to impress was just unreasonable. However having just returned from my viewing of the film I’m all smiles and can happily declare, I was wrong!

The film boasts of a lot of genuine creativity which I didn’t expect since the previous films have been too borrowed. But Krrish 3 sticks to the genre and brings in the essential elements we want from superhero entertainers with a bit of desi tadka. There’s a rich human and...

Krrish 3 Movie Review
One walks into a superhero film wanting to be overwhelmed. Tall order indeed! After all, in how many different ways can a superhero save the world? The template is more the less the same in all superhero films. It is just the treatment that tells a winner from the loser. So is Krrish 3 a winner or a loser?

Krishna (Hrithik Roshan) is living a peaceful life with his wife Priya (Priyanka Chopra) and father Rohit (Hrithik again of course). Or as peaceful as life can be for the friendly neighbourhood superhero with one crisis or the other not letting him hold down a job for more than a few days. Enters Kaal (Vivek Oberoi), a wheelchair-bound genius with a penchant for creating mutants from his own DNA. His chief mutant is the shape-shifting Kaaya (Kangana Ranaut) who helps him terrorise the world by injecting hapless people with the virus created by him.

In Pictures: On Set of Krrish 3!
Of course one of the films fans are eagerly counting the days until is Krrish 3! The Rakesh Roshan directed film is the newest film in the series that began with Koi Mil Gaya. The director wrote, “When Koi Mil Gaya released in 2003, and the novel concept of Jadoo and his powers was so widely accepted, I knew that the stage was set for the birth of a very special hero. Krrish was created as a result. No stone was left unturned in making sure that we gave our audiences a fantastic and state-of-the-art superhero. It worked. And Krrish became a household name.

Now we had our own little mythology. Jadoo, Rohit, Krishna, Krrish. Set in a world of science fiction but very easy to relate to and connect with. In the last film, we created the character. Now it only made sense to move ahead with him. The challenge...

“The Reluctant Fundamentalist makes us look within ourselves for answers to the chaos in the world around us.” – A Review by Subhash K Jha
Starring Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson, Liev Schreiber, Keifer Sutherland, Shabana Azmi, Om Puri

Directed by Mira Nair

The dubbing does subject the content to some tonal drubbing. And one wishes the Indian distributors had just let the characters speak the way they felt. Misguided vocalization cannot take away from the power and inner strengths of Mira Nair’s newest work.

The abject isolation of an individual as he or she grapples with the shifting emotional and cultural dynamics of a society that doesn’t have much patience with dilemmas of the diaspora, is a recurrent theme in Mira Nair’s remarkable oeuvre.

It could be that sassy street boy Krishna in Salaam Bombay peering resentfully into the rolled-up windows of the rich and the privileged as they whisk away his unrealized dreams. It could the high-flying Amelia Earhart kissing the clouds as she flies that plane in splendid solitude in Amelia.

Himmatwala Music Review
Firstly, I cannot convey my utmost excitement for Sajid Khan’s remake of Himmatwala, whether it was the exciting promos that promised a more energized Ajay Devgn or Tamannah Bhatia making her Bollywood debut. However, I did approach with trepidation when the first promos of the iconic Nainon Mein Sapna, which seemed like a by-the-numbers recreation of the multicolored sets or the lack of dance moves in Devgn and Bhatia. Yet it was the music that hooked us all in from the addictive “Tha Thaiya Ta Thaiya ho” and that Sajid and Wajid hadn’t added any overt flourishes to that iconic melody. This album is tons of fun, yet upon Khan’s insistence that they not stray too far from the source material, Sajid and Wajid play it a little safe. What we can appreciate is the ambition of the songs by using artists from the Laximant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri...

Krishna (1996)
Bannada Kode Review
Krishna (1996)
Movie Review: "Bannada Kode": Star Cast: Baby Suhasini, Yathiraj, Rohith Kumar Kateel, Master Chiranjeevi, Sharanya, Mohini and others; Director: Krishna Belthangadi; Producer: Harish Bellaala; Camera: Vishnu Prasad; Music Director: Neville; Rating: **1/2 - touching tale, but poor narration.

Directed by journalist?turned?film director Krishna Belthangadi, "Bannada Kode" rises several notches above an average film. But unfortunately Belthangadi's efforts to take it to a higher level fail mainly because of his inexperience in the field of direction and his inability to write a good script.

Apart from the good performances.

Krishna (1996)
India's first stereoscopic 3D animated feature film Krishna Aur Kans has been declared 'Tax Free' in 6 states namely Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Kerala, Chhattisgarh & West Bengal on the first day of its release itself. Further key states like Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh are also strongly considering the proposal.

This dual impact of Tax-Free status in major territories and the release of the film close to Janmasthami is working well for this animation film.
