Best known for his role on The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon Cooper, Jim Parsons is taking on something very different for his next big role. He is the latest addition to the cast of The Leader, an upcoming thriller inspired by the real-life story of the infamous Heaven's Gate religious group.

Per Deadline, Parsons has officially joined the cast of The Leader, but his role has not yet been disclosed. He won't be playing Marshall Herff Applewhite, referred to as "Do" by his followers, who led the group alongside Bonnie Lu Lettles, also known as "Ti." It was previously announced that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga were respectively playing Marshall and Bonnie.

The 2004 movie, directed by Peter Segal, follows Barrymore's Lucy Whitmore, a woman with short-term memory loss. 50 First Dates landed in theaters on February 13, 2004, and was a box office success, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide. While it didn't exactly impress critics (the film holds a 45% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the chemistry between Sandler and Barrymore was undeniable.

Michael Groszkruger, the respected market research executive who spent more than two decades at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., died Jan. 30 of complications from cancer in Portland, Oregon, his family announced. He was 60.

Groszkruger served as a vice president and head of research at New Line from 1997-2008, a period in which the studio released such notable films as Wag the Dog, The Wedding Singer, Magnolia, Love & Basketball and entries in the Lord of the Rings, Austin Powers and Rush Hour franchises.

“A lot of New Line’s success was due to Mike’s extraordinary ability to take research and distill the data into creative insights,” former New Line president of marketing Russell Schwartz said in a statement. “His instincts in marketing were unparalleled.”

The early-year slowdown at the box office brought an unpleasant surprise for workers at Alamo Drafthouse: nationwide layoffs. But unionized employees at three of the dine-in chains theaters in Colorado and New York pushed back.

This week, workers at the Alamo location in Sloans Lake, Colorado who are unionized with the Communication Workers of America Local 7777, authorized a strike in response to an unspecified number of layoffs across the chain’s 35 locations last month. They joined Alamo workers at the chain’s locations in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, who are unionized with United Auto Workers Local 2179, who filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the chain and Sony Pictures Entertainment, which acquired Alamo last year.
