Adam Sandlerwas a staple of 90s and early 2000s comedy, and now, one of his most iconic films has a sequel out. The 1996 movie Happy Gilmore celebrated Happy (Sandler), a hockey player turned professional golfer whose unconventional approach to the sport did not make him allies. Especially with Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). The sequel, which was released in July 2025, comes out nearly 30 years later, and now if you're trying to watch the two back to back, you only have until the end of July to have that double feature on Netflix.
The sequel from director Kyle Newacheck is an emotional return to the character; the original film was directed by Dennis Dugan. But even 30 years later, the character of Happy Gilmore is someone who fans love for a reason. He loves fiercely, isn't ashamed of who he is, and will make sure that his skill as a golfer is loved and appreciated.

Two years ago, we heard that Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) would be starring in The Leader, a true crime biopic about a story that shocked the world back in 1997, the mass suicide of the members of the Heaven’s Gate cult. That project has finally made it into production, and Deadline reports that Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) has joined the cast. Details on the character he’ll be playing haven’t been revealed – but it’s not difficult to imagine him playing a member of the Heaven’s Gate cult.

Best known for his role on The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon Cooper, Jim Parsons is taking on something very different for his next big role. He is the latest addition to the cast of The Leader, an upcoming thriller inspired by the real-life story of the infamous Heaven's Gate religious group.

Adam Sandler rose to stardom during the 1990s with a string of hit comedies, including Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and Big Daddy. He remained a comedy staple throughout the 2000s with popular movies such as Mr. Deeds, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Click, Grown Ups, Just Go With It, Grown Ups 2, and Blended.
Since 2015, Sandler has made movies almost exclusively for Netflix, releasing titles like The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Murder Mystery, Hubie Halloween, Murder Mystery 2, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Now, Sandler has a new Netflix comedy out, and it's his biggest one yet.

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ had a reported budget of around $30-40 million, and it looks like the extensive cast was paid handsomely for their contributions to the sequel.
Ofcourse, Adam Sandler is back as the boorish golf player in Kyle Newacheck’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ The last time we saw the character was all the way back in 1996 when the sports comedy ended with Happy defeating Shooter McGavin in the Tour Championship and finally earning the respect he always craved.
Now, nearly three decades later, Sandler is back in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, but this time with a tragic story that makes him give up on his successful golfing career. While the Og film became somewhat of a cult classic over the years, the sequel is also a great watch if you’re looking for something light-hearted, despite the mixed reviews. The release of “Happy Gilmore 2,” the Netflix sequel to the 1996 comedy hit, is just days away. While Hollywood hot shots might be sweating audience awareness polls or gauging social media chatter, Tim Herlihy — who co-wrote both films with star Adam Sandler — has a more pressing concern: catching up with yard work at his quiet Connecticut home.
You might not know Herlihy’s name, but you’ve laughed at his jokes. His movies with Sandler, often featuring characters in various states of arrested development, have topped $3 billion at the box office. Think classics like “Billy Madison” and “The Wedding Singer.” The pair pivoted to streaming in 2015, with Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions signing a megadeal with Netflix that’s led to such films as “The Ridiculous 6” and “Hubie Halloween.”

Adam Sandler has once again proved his comedic genius and his talent with the release of Happy Gilmore 2. Being a sequel to his 1996 film, Happy Gilmore 2 has been enjoying a good time on Netflix as fans revisit the nostalgia where Sandler’s movies dominated the comedy genre.
When talking to ScreenRant about his decision to make Happy Gilmore 2, Adam Sandler was asked about revisiting his other classic movies, and perhaps giving them a sequel. The Pixels star was asked about finishing a trilogy, which went on to become one of Adam Sandler’s most iconic franchises of all time: Grown Ups.
When asked about a potential Grown Ups 3 as a means to finish off the trilogy, here’s what Adam Sandler had for a reply:
That could happen.
Back in 2010, Adam Sandler decided to cast his friends as parents and some kids for an ensemble cast in a movie called Grown Ups.

On July 25, It's time to head back to the links — and the 1990s — with Adam Sandler. The star is picking up his golf clubs again for Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2, a belated follow-up to the 1996 golf comedy that propelled him onto Hollywood's comedy A-list. It's the first time that Sandler has revisited one of those vintage comedies; to date, his only live-action sequels to previous successes have been Grown-Ups 2 and Murder Mystery 2.
Interestingly, Happy Gilmore 2 is arriving on Netflix one month ahead of Sandler's latest seriocomic turn; the actor will be starring alongside George Clooney in Noah Baumbach's Venice-bound feature Jay Kelly. And the two actors will likely be joined at the hip throughout awards season as Clooney positions himself for his first Best Actor nomination since The Descendants way back in 2013. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Adam Sandler, whose legacy sequel movie Happy Gilmore 2 is releasing this weekend, addressed the possibility of reviving other iconic movies and characters in his filmography. Sandler had previously spoken about other '90s projects he might be interested in bringing back for legacy sequels, while talking about Happy Gilmore 2.
Alongside other noteworthy projects, Adam Sandler gave us a 1990s comedy movie performance we can never forget in Happy Gilmore. After nearly 30 years since its release, there is a sequel, whose director, Kyle Newacheck, also hopes to make a Little Nicky sequel someday. While it's a 2000 film, Little Nicky is in the same vein as Sandler's '90s movies.
As an actor with some of his best characters being from the '90s, Adam Sandler, when asked about reviving other projects from the decade, said, "I'd love to do that", about a potential sequel to The Wedding Singer.

"Happy Gilmore" is one of those enduring comedies that has stood the test of time. While it may not have been a massive blockbuster hit at the box office, it found quite an audience on home video, especially as Adam Sandler's star continued to rise with the likes of his best comedies like "The Wedding Singer" and "Big Daddy." It's a simple, grounded sports comedy that was the perfect outlet for Sandler's unique comedic sensibilities, letting him be both charming and hilariously angry while shaking up the classic institution of golf. Following in the footsteps of movies like "Caddyshack" and "National Lampoon's Animal House," it was the perfect successor in the slobs vs snobs comedic formula that frequently worked so well.

Almost 30 years later, an Adam Sandler comedy is now a streaming hit ahead of its long-awaited sequel. A lot of Sandler's best movies are comedies from the 1990s and 2000s, including Big Daddy, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. Many of these have plenty of admirers, despite their poor reviews.
Although Sandler has added some different flavors to his filmography, with movies like Uncut Gems and Hustle, he will probably always be primarily associated with his joyous lowbrow comedies. This is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, because Sandler has mastered this particular craft.

Despite being fired from SNL, Adam Sandler went on to become one of the biggest comedic movie stars of all time. Using his unmatched silliness, Sandler leapt from the small screen and burst onto the big screen with an energy and delivery that movie-going audiences had never seen. But Sandler isn’t anchored in the realm of absurdity, and some of his best performances have come in some incredibly serious dramatic roles.

The director of Happy Gilmore 2 has revealed what Adam Sandler movie he would like to make a sequel to next. Although he is best known for feature-length comedies, Sandler got his start as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, which was a stint that ran from 1990 to 1995.
Two early Adam Sandler movies were his key to finding big screen success. The first was 1995's Billy Madison, in which he played a man who has 24 weeks to graduate grades 1 through 12, and the second was 1996's Happy Gilmore, in which he played a vulgar hockey player who becomes a golf sensation.
From there, he went on to star in a number of prominent movies, including the rom-coms 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer, the dramas Uncut Gems and Hustle, and the Netflix comedies Murder Mystery, Murder Mystery 2, Hubie Halloween, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.

As humans, there are a lot of ways we try to cope after someone ends a relationship with us. Some of us eat entire pints of ice cream, while others spend their time at the gym or trying on new clothes. Some of us simply listen to Taylor Swift's entire discography on repeat. However, few things can take you out of those repetitive patterns of heartbreak like a good, relatable film about love lost or taken away.
From serious, Oscar-bait dramas to laugh-out-loud-funny rom-coms, plenty of films perfectly capture the universal experience of going through a break-up, whether you're an adult struggling with a family-splitting divorce or a teenager experiencing your first crushing heartbreak. These 15 films might have happy endings, bittersweet endings, or just plain sad endings, but they might in some way offer comfort for those who are currently going through the summer without another person by their side.

Chris Farley was only 33 years old when he died of an overdose on December 18, 1997, and it all felt horribly inevitable. He'd been in and out of rehab so many times that being an incorrigible addict had become part of his comedic persona. When he returned in the fall of 1997 to host "Saturday Night Live," the series that launched him as a comedic dynamo earlier in the decade, the entire cold open made a joke out of his ability to do the show. At the time, I couldn't believe what I was watching. He was clearly unhealthy and sounded like he'd been gargling razor blades, as though his body itself was trying to reject him.
If you know Farley's story, you're aware that the people in his orbit did everything they could to get him sober. Alas, he kept finding his way back to the party.

Happy Gilmoreis one of Adam Sandler's best-loved comedies in a collection that often proves divisive. Described by legendary critic Roger Ebert as "the story of a violent sociopath," the film follows Sandler as the titular Happy, a failed hockey player who finds he has a particular skill for driving long and accurate golf shots. Almost 30 years since the debut of this beloved 90s comedy, a sequel is finally on its way, and it seems that, in preparation for its arrival, viewers are flocking to streaming to remind themselves of the chaos.

Her voice was contemplative of her childhood stardom as she shared her journey as a young star. From stepping into the spotlight at just 11 months old, her life has been a whirlwind; she has been navigating ever since.
In a poignant conversation with Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews, Drew candidly compared her relentless pursuit of success to that of iconic figures like Shirley Temple, Annette Funicello, and Sally Field—women who hopped onto the same “beautiful, blessed, fortunate treadmill” of fame and found it hard to step off the wheel ever.

Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.
Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.
Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

Throughout its 50-year run, "Saturday Night Live" has been the launching pad for some of history's most beloved comedic actors and actresses. Fans often debate which decade of "SNL" was the best, but an argument can be made that the 1990s featured some of the funniest sketches in the show's history, introducing audiences to up-and-comers who would go on to become some of the biggest names in comedy to this day. One of those young stars was none other than Adam Sandler.
After making his film debut in 1989, Adam Sandler performed stand-up comedy in clubs. At one of his performances in Los Angeles, "SNL" cast member Dennis Miller was in attendance. Impressed by Sandler's material, Miller recommended him to Lorne Michaels, which led to Sandler landing a job in the "SNL" writers' room in 1990 and eventually being promoted to featured player in the cast. In a tumultuous Hollywood age of corporate takeovers and executive turnovers, Richard Brener is a rarity of the business. The tall, soft-spoken president and Cco of New Line has been at company for 30, yes, you read that right, 30 years come May 1. He started as a temp in Los Angeles, working in every conceivable department. Then, when a story editor position opened up, applied for the job. That gig instead went to a woman named Donna Langley, now the chairman NBCU Entertainment & Studios, but then an executive’s assistant. “That was smart of them because she’s obviously done very, very well for herself,” Brener notes while sitting in New Line’s offices on the Burbank lot of Warner Bros. Discovery. “She’s now a dame and I’m just a mister.” But New Line execs were impressed enough with the Yale history grad that they created the position of staff reader just for him.

In the months since exiting “General Hospital,” actress Kelly Monaco (ex-Sam McCall) has been relatively quiet on social media. That changed recently when she announced she would host a brand-new podcast series with long-time friend Shanna Moakler, titled “Bad Bunnies,” a reference to their time as Playboy playmates.

With roles in movies like Uncut Gems and Hustle, Adam Sandler has shown that he can be a great dramatic actor, but no matter what he does for the rest of his career, he will be best remembered for his man-child persona on Saturday Night Live and in early film roles such as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Those movies were hits that are still popular today, but you can't say they were exactly critically acclaimed. In the mid-90s, Sandler was bashed for his acting, but in 1998 that all changed thanks to arguably his first great movie, The Wedding Singer. It was all possible due to the addition of a strong female character, played by Drew Barrymore, and helped along by none other than Carrie Fisher.

Adam Sandler is one of his generation's most iconic comedy actors. His early works, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, etc., are among the most well-known and acclaimed. While later movies have seen a more "mixed" critical reception, Sandler has no doubt made his mark. But what if there was a secret Easter egg in several of his movies? And what if that Easter egg was hidden in plain sight?
In several Sandman pictures, his female love interest has the initials "Vv." There's Veronica Vaughn, Virginia Venit, Vicki Vallencourt, and more. But not every onscreen partner has these initials, so what's the story with the ones that do? Have we stumbled down some new conspiracy theory rabbit hole? Is "Vv" a secret sign warning of what's to come? Or is it just Sandler being Sandler and making up funny names? In all likelihood, the latter is the case.

Despite releasing at the end of 2023, one of 2024's biggest sleeper hits at the box office was "Anyone But You," a romantic-comedy starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney as former lovers who cross paths at a destination wedding and pretend to be a couple in order to placate their respective families. Given the film's financial success, it shows a potential bright future for the rom-com genre, which in recent years has struggled to have the success it once had throughout the 2000s with hits like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Knocked Up."

Before indulging in some negativity, it’s best to emphasize that Adam Sandler has indeed been in some good movies over the decades. Some of his best films happen to be a little more dramatic, like Punch-Drunk Love, which is a dramedy, and Uncut Gems, which is more of a crime movie with some dark/uncomfortable comedy. But his broader comedies can also be good, as shown by the genuinely sweet and well-made The Wedding Singer.

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's second rom-com together is climbing the streaming chart, as 50 First Dates sits at number five on the Prime Video chart. It's a great Valentine's Day date night movie and has plenty of charm and emotion. The movie follows a vet in Hawaii named Henry (Sandler) who falls for Lucy (Barrymore) with short-term memory loss. Basically, she forgets everything that happened the day before when she wakes up.
Her father and brother, played by Blake Clarke and a hilarious Sean Astin, are very protective of Lucy. Since she's "stuck" in the day she lost her memory in an accident, they attempt to play along with the idea that she wasn't in an accident. But love blooms between Henry and Lucy, despite his having to woo her constantly.

It’s unbelievable to learn that it has been almost 30 years since Happy Gilmore graced fans with its comedic presence in theaters and at home. The 1996 sports comedy was one of Adam Sandler’s first, before he had formed Happy Madison Productions, which went on to become a juggernaut in the movie business. The cast is made up of mostly familiar faces, many of whom went on to star in huge projects, including Sandler himself.
With a sequel film coming out this year, and many of the original cast members reprising their roles, fans are excited at the prospect of seeing the title character and his hockey-inspired golf style once again. But it also makes fans curious what the cast members have been up to in the last almost three decades, notably the ones who aren’t the most known figures.

Adam Sandler is a comedic heavy hitter in the industry. His prolific career in the 1990s and 2000s saw him starring in so many movies that some gems inevitably slipped through the cracks of mainstream popularity. But the times are a-changin’ and, thanks to the rise of streaming services, a whole new generation gets to witness Sandler at his best. Spanglish, a rom-com from 2004, is the latest to join the lineup, arriving on Netflix on Feb. 1.
Spanglish tells the story of Flor (Paz Vega), a Mexican immigrant and devoted single mother who does not speak English. She takes a job as a housekeeper for the affluent Clasky family, which consists of John, a Los Angeles chef and the family patriarch, Deborah, his wife and former businesswoman, their children Bernice and Georgie, and Deborah’s mother, Evelyn, a retired singer. The new gig, personal revelations, and cultural clashes cause Flor to...

Aloha! The natural beauty of Hawaii has long inspired and captivated filmmakers longing to show off the soaring cliffs and clear blue waters, in addition to the rich Polynesian culture. Many romantic comedies and coming-of-age films have taken advantage of the stirring imagery to evoke paradise, spirit, and dreamy tenderness. But there's tragedy and drama to be found there too, given the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, as well as the many wartime epics that have been made showing Hawaii at its most tragic.
Given the geographic variety of the state, it's no surprise that a diverse range of stories have been told using the islands and its people, and here, we're taking a look at the 10 best films set in Hawaii.

One of Adam Sandler's most underrated and divisive comedies is finally returning to streaming this February. Sandler's run of comedies from 1995 to 2008 is nothing short of legendary. Within that time, the actor and writer released Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Punch-Drunk-Love, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and You Don't Mess with the Zohan (this writer's personal favorite). But, the film that kicked it all off was Billy Madison, and it's finally coming back to streaming.
Billy Madison arrives on Hulu on Feb. 1; it was directed by Tamra Davis, and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (Happy Gilmore) and is one of Sandler's most underrated comedies. Released in 1995, the film follows 27-year-old Billy Madison (Sandler) who is set to take over his father's hotel empire. However, his father (Darren McGavin) has one demand before he inherits the fortune: for his son to go back and finish school.
