The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Species II was Written by Eric Walkuski, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
If you were a movie fan hanging around in 1995 – hell, if you were just a living being – you can’t forget the summer of Species. Unapologetic in its cheesiness and sleaziness, it was a like a big-budget version of the movies Joe Bob Briggs used to show during his late night marathons on The Movie Channel. In other words, it was pure heaven. Gory and sexy in equal measure, it made a splash thanks to its irresistible premise – an alien-human hybrid mega babe screws guys to death while an eccentric group attempts to stop her before she bangs humanity into extinction. Yep, pure heaven. The movie made over $113 million at the worldwide box office; considering its $35 million budget,...

Fandoms everywhere can now rejoice, for in October Our Flag Means Death finally returns to our screens for its second season. Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi will be romancing the high seas once more thanks to an enormous outpouring of love and support from the show’s fans. The safety of the cult favorite is not yet known beyond season two, but if this one is as good as the first, it certainly won’t be for lack of trying.

Robert Hogan, a TV character actor who was a regular on Peyton Place for two seasons and recurred on The Wire and such other popular series as Law & Order and Alice, has died. He was 87. His family said he died May 27 of pneumonia complications at his home in coastal Maine.
Hogan amassed more than 150 credits during a six-decade career, guesting multiple times on such classic shows as Murder, She Wrote, Gunsmoke, The F.B.I., Barnaby Jones, 77 Sunset Strip, The Rockford Files and as Louis Sobotka in four Season 2 episodes of HBO’s The Wire. He also played Greg Stemple in a half-dozen Alice episodes during the early 1980s.
He also played the Rev. Tom Winter — whose affairs certainly were more than clerical — in more than 60 episodes of the New England-set 1960s romantic drama Peyton Place.

Most stories of tortured film productions turn on the tragedy of missed opportunities: We’ll never know if Alejandro Jodoworsky’s “Dune” or the original version of Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” would have delivered on their directors’ audacious visions. “Ghost in the Noonday Sun” is a different situation. The 1974 pirate comedy, which starred Peter Sellers as a 17th century troublemaker named Dick Scratcher, actually got made — and it sucked. In fact, everyone involved felt that the movie was a mistake. Sellers, at the height of his commercial and creative powers, clashed with director Peter Medak on a nightmarish shoot riddled with practical challenges and indecision; Columbia shelved the project, dumping it on home video a decade later, Medak’s career was forever tarnished, and Sellers died by the end of the decade.

"Would you consider carrying my child?" IFC Films has unveiled a trailer for a psychological horror film called Shelley, about a woman who convinces her maid to get pregnant since she can't but there's obviously a dark side to the story. The baby seems to be growing faster than usual and their seems to be a creepy evil something growing inside of her. This premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, and is playing at Fantasia this month. Starring Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Cosmina Stratan, Peter Christoffersen, Bjorn Andresen, and Marianne Mortensen. There have been a many baby-related horror films (from Rosemary's Baby to Proxy recently to Species II) but this one seems to be particularly unsettling. If you're into this, take a look. Here's the official Us trailer (+ a poster) for Ali Abbasi's Shelley, found direct from YouTube: Louise and Kasper, a Danish couple, live in an isolated villa in...

If during the Nineties, you were a male between the ages of puberty, and dead, it is likely that you actively sought, and consumed the movie Species. It was basically Aliens with lots of nudity. It was supermodel Natasha Henstridge’s first movie, and cemented her position in spank-banks the world over. Some people may be unaware that, a few years later they made a sequel, with Henstridge returning, though she’s a little less the main focus of the movie this time around. And, believe it or not, the sequel is regarded by many, as being as good as, if not better than the original. I’ll bet you wouldn’t believe me if I told you that they even went on to make two sequels after that, though one of them is just barely entertaining, and the final sequel in the franchise borders on unwatchable. Well, Scream Factory...

Welcome back to This Week In Discs where we check out tomorrow’s new releases today! 10,000 km What is it? Alex (Natalia Tena) and Sergi (David Verdaguer) are in love, but their bond is tested when she gets a one-year job contract in Los Angeles. He stays behind in Madrid due to his own job requirements, and the two make plans to stay connected through technology. It’s not easy though, and as the days pass their love and commitment is challenged by distance, emotion, and that very same technology. Why buy it? It’s entirely possible that my affection and admiration for this film is based on my own two year (with summer breaks) long distance relationship, but even if I hadn’t experienced it myself the raw intimacy on display here would most certainly still be effective. It’s a painfully honest and deliriously sexy look at a geographically-challenged coupling, and...

Underrated, ultra-gory sequel Species II reviewed on Blu! It’s astonishing that a movie as sleazy, exploitative and unapologetically trashy as director Peter (The Changeling) Medak’s fluid-drenched sequel Species II was released by a major studio like MGM. As the titular Dame, Eva Green channeled her inner femme fatale for her 'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For' character poster. So much so the Motion Picture Association of America banned it for being too racy. According to the the MPAA, Green's poster cannot be used due to "nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown." The images is below. Brace yourself for a tawdry spectacle the likes of which the world has never seen. Nsfw I suppose? Image Credit: Dimension Films The MPAA was rocked the the shocking news that women do indeed have breasts. In fact, exactly like their male counterparts, they also have areola and nipples. This caused a flurry of ruffled feathers and pearl clutching because who knew, right?! Clearly the members of the MPAA were laboring under the impression that casting directors were finding actual aliens...

Scarlett Johansson gives a breathtaking performance as an alien femme fatale in Jonathan Glazer's mesmerising new movie Under the Skin.
Johansson's unnamed character inhabits the body of a young woman in order to lure male hitchhikers to their deaths, as she travels around Glasgow in her white transit van.
The silver screen has a long tradition of both spine-tingling and silly sci-fi seductresses, so prepare to be charmed by a few of our favourites below:
The Astounding She-Monster (1957)
"If you're not too afraid, make a date with a woman you'll never forget... a woman impervious to bullets....The Astounding She Monster!!!" warns the trailer for this 1957 sci-fi horror.
Shirley Kilpatrick played a beautiful yet highly-radioactive alien who lands on earth after accidentally crashing her spaceship. Unbeknownst to her, she's capable of killing with the touch of her delicate, bare hands, and begins stalking and unwittingly harming humans around her.

A major downside of VOD services compared with having a vast Blu-ray or DVD library is timing. Services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. have contracts with content providers - contracts that expire usually around the end of a calendar year unless otherwise renewed.
Thus from January 1st, certain films will no longer be available on that service to watch when you want. Today, a Reddit post has listed the films that are about to drop off Netflix due to contract with various rights providers running out. When (or even if) they will return is anyone's guess. Braveheart

Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

Sometime over the holidays my dad and I were discussing our shared fondness for Natasha Henstridge.my family saw Species and Species II (!) in theaters.so I brought to his attention that she currently had a new gig on the CW called The Secret Circle and his eyes lit up. He hadn't heard of Tsc (or, let's be honest, the CW) and asked whether he'd like it or not, and I frankly didn't know what to say. This is a problem I've run into with other people who ask whether this very CW show about teenage witches is worth their... More >>...

Sooner or later, all monsters end up hiding in a sewer. Here’s our list of 10 particularly fine B-movie drainage systems…
If you were a hideous monster mutated by toxic waste or radiation, where would you hide? In the warmth of a garden shed? In the car stereo section of Halfords, perhaps? Of course you wouldn’t. Instead, you’d scuttle straight for the nearest sewer, where you can hide safely in the darkness and trickling effluent.
If B-movie cinema is to be believed, the tunnels beneath our streets are positively teeming with all manner of cannibalistic monsters and hideously outsized prehistoric lizards. This list, therefore, is all about the fine sewer systems of B-picture cinema, where some of mankind’s greatest fears lurk…
Them! (1954)

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.

Rick Baker. Friend of apes. Maker of monsters. Seven time Oscar winner. And that lucky number seven was for The Wolfman, shared with fellow Efx maestro Dave Elsey. Their on-stage speech was great, but the extended Thank You Cam was even better. Both Baker and Elsey thanked Jack Pierce and Dick Smith for inspiring them. Though there were grumblings online that the Academy clip showed the CG transformation rather then the make-up. It is always a treat to see our own getting the gold.

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.
