The movie has some classic love-like scenes that work rather well. The on/off 3rd person narrative, a common technique used for book-to-film conversion, worked better and better throughout the movie. The story itself didn't really get a hold of me though, this might stem from the fact that it was made for a public who to a great extent had already read the book. If you're a fan of Danish movies from the 60ies (about Denmark in the 30ies), or something similar, I guess it's worth buying.

I have to add to this that Finn Storgaard, the main character, acts and looks like Jude Law in more than one of the latter's movies, e.g. The Talented Mr. Ripley and Enemy at The Gates. If you can see past the difference of settings, as Midt i en Jazztid only contains somewhat everyday scenes, I think that some similarities are quite obvious.

Also, the movie was awarded with the Bodil award, the Danish movie award.
