Lifts footage from Steven Spielberg's Tiburón (1975), Jeannot Szwarc's Tiburón 2 (1978), Joe D'Amato's Tiburones (1989), and mostly from Enzo G. Castellari's El último tiburón (1981), and Jaws 3 (1983).
The mafia and the bullying subplots in the film were actually deleted parts in the original 1974 Jaws novel and were later inspired in this film.
Marketed as "Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws", even though the movie has no connection with Tiburón (1975), or any of its sequels.
Shout Factory announced that the film would be released on a double feature with another movie in 2015, but canceled it to avoid legal issues, as the film contains stock footage from Tiburón (1975) and Tiburón 2 (1978).
The cast was made up of non-union locals from Florida.
