The weakest part of the show was definitely the ground combat sequences. The actors carried around those HUGE assault rifles, but I always got the feeling those weapons were about as lethal as a bunch of souped-up BB guns.
Everything else about the show rocked, however. Who can forget Chiggy-Von-Richtoven from the episode "Angriest Angle?" Or Col. McQueen's monologue at the end of that episode? This was a serious show about a serious war. Good stuff.
"Abandon all hope MY ASS!"
In my opinion, this series was one of the best ever. It explored deeper themes than most shows would dare. It gave a more realistic view of war and the future of Earth than any other scifi or war show I have ever seen. Also, Glen Morgan and James Wong's appreciation of poetry really shows in this series.
If I had to describe "Space: Above and Beyond" in one word: Deep.
You may not believe me, or you may just think that I only say this because I am such a big fan. That's fine. But I truly believe that this show was good while it was on, and had the potential to be something great. Check it out if you can.
HOO RAH!

- TriviaFull-scale models of the Hammerhead fighters used in the series were created in Australia at RAAF Base Williamtown. During an interview show runner Glen Morgan claimed that while they were being stored on board the freighter before shipping, crewmen from a Russian freighter were caught taking pictures of them after mistakenly thinking they were a new kind of advanced U.S. tactical fighter.

Capt. Shane Vansen: McQueen was born with a ka-bar and a Corps tattoo.
Lt. Paul Wang: Can you imagine if he was anything else? Like a plumber?
Lt. Paul Wang: [imitating McQueen] Okay, listen up. This one's in the kitchen. I'm here to fix your faucet, so check your six. I'm gonna replace the strainer part, and I'm gonna replace the washer. It's gonna be a real knife fight. Now I'm gonna utilize a monkey wrench and perhaps even a plunger. And when I'm done, you'll have water.
[McQueen enters]
Lt. Paul Wang: It'll be hot, and it'll be cold. And one more thing.
[Wang flips table]
Lt. Paul Wang: It's okay to be scared.
Lt. Paul Wang: [realizes McQueen is standing behind him] Sir, sir, it... It's the greatest form of flattery. Sir.
- Créditos curiososThe credits changed mid-season because of pressure from the network that feared the audience wouldn't know what is going on. The new credits had a narration summarizing the show's story. The producers hated the second version.
