    MAAAAANY years after

Just (re)watched the cinematics on YouTube. I remember the epicness of playing this game on the hardware of the day back then. Just an amazing experience, as were the Tex Murphy games. Unless you were there, you could never understand how vast the improvements were, which started here. Live video acting? ACTUAL audio? This was so far beyond anything before it, it's not even funny.

I just threw out all of my old software in a "purge", but when I saw this CDROM, it just kind of ignited a fire in me to search these out on YouTube. I thank the individuals who made these so that we can revisit the best of times!

    A grim battle of survival

This game is a fine example of how one is supposed to use the new media. The story really grabs you tight and the only thing you want is more.

Mankind is fighting a losing war for survival in a galactic war against the evil catlike race Kilrathi. The game begins at the carrier "Tiger's Claw" and evolves quickly to an engrossing story about humanity's finest hour.

I surely can recommend this game!

How Wing Commander III pulls you in.

I got Wing Commander III from my dad for my birthday. I had never even heard of it, but I saw that Mark Hamill was in it and that got me interested. The cool graphics, the live-action cut scenes, and the entire fun of space simulation soon had me hooked. Afterwards I have purchased Wing Commander IV and Wing Commander Prophecy and hope to get Wing Commander: Secret Ops soon. Overall, this game is very fun and addictive.

Good TV series and great space simulator in One game!

Everybody are blinded by good or bad "acting" these days. Here we have a standart space mission "target destroyed" game mixed with TV sci-fi series. But the cast for these series is quite strong in terms of "acting". Thomas F. Wilson - the star of Back to The future trilogy - gives high quality perfomance, so the video scenes are far superior than you can expect from computer game or even TV space opera. Other actors create believable athmosphere with passion. Ginger Lynn makes me forget her adult-film past for a moment. She looks great as geek-girl mechanic. Mark Hammil hooks you with his enthusiasm as allways. I should mention great sound design and beautifull costumes of Cat Aliens. The game engine itself is wisely standard or primitive in a genius way. Space fighter simulation is cozy and playable. I like it better than Tie Fighter and X-Wing. Wing Commander 3 and Wing Commander 4 are the best space fighting simulators of the 90s in my opinion. And one of the best games of all time. There are some weak points though. Not weak, but kind of empty spaces. When you choose the wrong path in the game, you can fight the main enemy ship (it's huge). Whether you good or bad pilot, you can't fight back your chances. But it's a very small detail in this fantastic game which I highly reccomend.

Strap yourself in, grease up your trigger finger, and bring your attitude!

Very engaging game! Fantastic space-flight graphics. Two aspects of the game that made it very interesting for me were the fact that you weren't confined to flying the same spacecraft on every mission, and the different paths you can take to reach the final outcome. The video sequences were well done, and actually added to the storyline instead of just adding fluff. It's still a space-flight combat game, but an excellent one at that.

    • Trivia
This game gives the player character the official name of Colonel Christopher Blair. The previous two games featured the same character, but his name was determined by the player. It has long been speculated that the name "Blair" was a contraction of "Bluehair", the moniker that was given to the main character on Wing Commander discussion boards. The program code also referred the player as "Bluehair", which became apparent if the game files were examined with a hex editor.
    • Errores
Paladin is listed in the credits as "Maj. James 'Paladin' Taggart" (Maj. means Major). However during the game he is referred to as "General Taggart" and like Admiral Tolwyn he wears a cross-shaped rank insignia badge, indicating a high rank. He was only a Major in the first Wing Commander game, in Wing Commander II he has been promoted to Colonel.
    • Citas

Maniac: Well, well, if it isn't the Colonel. I'm sorry I couldn't make your welcoming party.

Blair: Well, I guess you had more "pressing" maneuvers to undertake, Maniac.

Maniac: When duty calls, I'm there.

      [whispers]

Maniac: Women like the smell of success.

Blair: Uh-huh. You know I'm surprised you haven't been blown out of the sky by now, Maniac... by friendly fire.

Maniac: Some people appreciate my flying style. I do what's necessary to win, OK? I suppose you still fly with one eye on the regs manual?

Blair: I don't take stupid risks.

Maniac: Speaking of stupid, I also heard you put Hobbes back on the flight roster.

Blair: My, my. Word travels fast on this tub.

Maniac: Never understood what you saw in that cat.

Blair: Simple, I need a wingman I can count on.

Maniac: You can't trust someone who will kill their own kind.

Blair: Who I choose as my wingman is my prerogative, it's privildge of rank.

Maniac: I'll bet you stay up late nights just polishing it, huh?

Blair: No, as a matter of fact I have Majors who do that for me.

Maniac: The difference in our rank is a formality. We both know who's better in the cockpit.

      Blair: Yeah. We do.

      [he walks off]

    • Versiones alternativas
The Playstation version of the game replaces two ground attack missions with cut scenes of the fighters running their attacks. In addition after the player drops the Temblor bomb on Kilrah another cutscene shows the fighter's egress before the planet begins to break up. Throughout the PC game there were originally news cast video scenes that hinted to the player various tactical advances on the part of the enemy. Unfortunately these were cut in the end.
