On Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast! With Frank Santopadre (2014), Gilbert Gottfried revealed that despite having a role in the film, he had never seen this movie.
The movie had its world premiere on January 16th, 1997, in Daingerfield, Texas, a small town in East Texas with a population at the time of 2,655. Daingerfield was so chosen for the premiere because of its name being so close to that of Rodney Dangerfield. In addition to the movie premiere, the town held a parade with Dangerfield as its grand marshal, nearby schools made it an early release day so the students could attend, and downtown Lamar Street was dedicated as Rodney Dangerfield Boulevard.
One of three Rodney Dangerfield films that feature a vocal performance by Michael Bolton. In De vuelta al colegio (1986), Bolton's song "Everybody's Crazy" appears on the soundtrack, and is playing on the record player during the frat dorm party. In Back by Midnight (2004), Bolton's version of "Soul Provider" is playing as Bolton himself, who makes a cameo in the latter film, is entering a diner bathroom.
For the role of call girl Lola Larue, auditions were held at Rodney Dangerfield's own condo in Beverly Hills. The actresses who were auditioning waited in the lobby of the building before going one-by-one up to Dangerfield's apartment to screen test. Some of the actresses dressed the part (i.e. in revealing outfits), prompting some of the other tenants to complain to the building manager and security because they assumed the actresses were real prostitutes. When Dangerfield's wife Joan Dangerfield returned home that day, the manager and security confronted her about the complaints, to which she explained that the women were actresses, not actual prostitutes. According to Rodney Dangerfield, some of the tenants still didn't believe them, and he continued to get dirty looks in the elevator of his building years after these auditions took place.
Trailer narrated by Percy Rodrigues.

Cameo

Tony Danza: As a New York cabbie named Tony, which was the first name of his breakthrough role on Taxi (1978). In this movie, he drives a 1978 Checker Taxicab [A11].
Richard Bey: As himself. His talk show, The Richard Bey Show (1987), aired its final episode on December 27th, 1996, over a month before this film premiered in theaters.

Roseanne Barr: As herself. Barr was one of many big-name comedians to whom Rodney Dangerfield gave their big break. During production, Barr was filming the 9th and final consecutive season of Roseanne (1988). She would later host her own talk show, The Roseanne Show (1997), over a year after this film's premiere.
Sally Jessy Raphael: As herself. Her talk show, Sally Jessy Raphael (1983), was still going strong in first-run syndication when this film premiered.
