What a movie, Paresh Rawal was the hero of this movie.. his character as Pinky is funny as well as superbly dynamic. He knows how to draw attention from the audiences and he has done it over here..
Sanjay Dutt & Urmila were good, but Neeraj Vora tool stole the show..
Daud is a comedy road adventure film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma and stars Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar, Paresh Rawal, Late Neeraj Vora, Ashish Vidyarthi and Manoj Bajpayee.
A Paltry thief assigned to steal a unknown packet allegedly containing gold.
Although the film is very straight and predictable but still the film can be called as the guilty pleasure for any lazy Sunday afternoon. The film is filled with some superb acting, memorable comedy, great music, decent choreography with some decent action, the film can easily be called as typical Bollywood masala flick.
Acting is probably the strongest aspect of the film and all the actors were impressive. Sanjay Dutt and Urmila looked great with each other and complimented each other perfectly. Late Neeraj Vora being the most impressive with his impeccable acting and the character played by him 'Chako' is not only impressive but also immortal and will be remembered for ages. Paresh Rawal on the other hand was in my opinion was equally impressive and he shares the limelight with Late Neeraj Vora. Manoj Bajpayee's initial film and he looked good, Ashish Vidyarthi looked impressive in the role of policeman.
Screenplay of the film was average but still will keep you engaged the screenplay of the film could've been more crisped and the length of the film which is close to 03 hours might pinch few viewers. Music by A. R. Rahman is superb and songs like 'Shabba Shabba' and 'O Bhavre' are still popular. The climax of the film is typical Bollywood climax.
Overall the film is not as ban as the reviews suggest and can easily be termed as guilty pleasure for many of us which include me.

I happened to see in an interview that Ramgopal Varma said Daud (1997) was a more experimental music album as compared to Rangeela (1995).
RGV is right. Rangeela became a blockbuster and the music caught on. Daud flopped on release, and people forget its music.
The fact is, AR Rahman made more experiments with the music of Daud, as compared to Rangeela.
Another fact is, Daud has performed significantly well on the satellite circuit and the digital platforms.
The best aspect about Daud is that it is a good-looking film, that is also extremely well shot.
It is the only film where RGV gets the lead pair right.
Dutt and Urmila are a good looking people and share crackling chemistry. It is a rare thing in Indian cinema to get to see perfect casting. Daud is one such rarity.
Rangeela may have been a career-defining film for Urmila, but it is in Daud that she comes across as more matured, with a measured performance. She looks a million bucks and carries off a difficult part with elan. Not many actresses in Indian cinema can project sensuality more convincingly and effectively as Urmila.
The highly underrated Zahreela Zahreela Pyar is by far the most sensuous song in the history of Indian cinema. Yes, you read it right.
The song is among the many things that showcases the sizzling chemistry of this good looking lead pair. Enjoy it while it last. You don't get to see good looking pairs in Indian cinema, infamous for father-daughter romances.
Daud is a treat to watch, and an absolute winner.

- TriviaManoj Bajpai heard from Kanan Iyer that Ram Gopal Verma was casting a role of a side villain for Daud. Irrfan Khan and Vineet Kumar were also in the running for the role. When Manoj arrived at Ram Gopal's office he sat down for his interview. Verma asked Manoj what films he had done. Manoj told him he had done Bandit Queen. Verma did not believe him. Verma told Manoj he had seen Bandit Queen twice and could not remember him. Manoj told him he played a silent role of Maan Singh. Ram Gopal Verma sat up in complete shock. He told Manoj he did not believe he was the same actor. Manoj looked very different in that film. Plus the actor who played Maan Singh looked older. Manoj told Ram Gopal he grew a beard for that film and was made to look older. Ram Gopal Verma told Manoj he was searching for him for 3 long years. He loved his performance in Bandit Queen but no one was giving him any information about Manoj. Where to find him, his phone number etc. Ram Gopal told Manoj not to do the role in Daud because he would make Satya and give him the main role. Manoj insisted he do Daud because he needed the money badly.
