Over the course of the last three decades, Jensen Ackles has quietly built up one of the most notable TV careers of his generation. After breaking out as Eric Brady on the long-running NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives” — which earned him three consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations — in the late ’90s, Ackles carved out a niche for playing tortured heartthrobs in all kinds of broadcast dramas: high-concept sci-fi (“Dark Angel”), teen (“Dawson’s Creek”), and superhero (“Smallville”). In 2005, he debuted as Dean Winchester, one-half of a dynamic duo of monster-hunting brothers, on The CW’s “Supernatural.”

The Runarounds isn’t your ordinary teen drama. The Prime Video series, dropping on September 1, is ready to drum up some serious fun — and music. Not only does the show follow a group of North Carolina teens in a rock band… The Runarounds are a real-life band, too. (They’ll be heading out on their Minivan Tour in September.) Jeremy Yun and William Lipton, who play Topher and Charlie, have been making music together since they were kids. Zendé Murdock, Axel Ellis, and Jesse Golliher were hoping to score a cameo on Outer Banks, which was cocreated by The Runarounds boss Jonas Pate, and ended up forming a band with Yun and Lipton.

Most people remember sitcom superstar Andy Griffith’s last hurrah in show business as feisty Southern lawyer Ben Matlock. But while that show ended in 1995, Griffith kept chugging along, appearing in movies like 2007’s Waitress and TV shows like Dawson’s Creek. But the final entry on his IMDb might be his most surprising: the naughty sex comedy Play the Game.
“A young ladies’ man teaches his dating tricks to his lonely, widowed grandfather, and plays his best mind games to meet the woman of his dreams,” reads the movie’s logline. Griffith plays Grandpa Joe in what sounds like a Hallmark movie recycling an old rom-com plot, but unlike those syrupy,...

The Waterfrontcreator Kevin Williamson responds to the show's surprising cancellation with a heartfelt message. Debuting on Netflix in June, and consisting of 10 episodes, The Waterfront focused on the dysfunctional Buckey family and their fishing empire that almost doubles as a drug-running scheme.
With an impressive Waterfront cast that includes Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, Brady Hepner, Maria Bello, and Topher Grace, the crime drama seemed to be trending in a positive direction. It made it all the more surprising, this past week, when Netflix cancelled the series.

The show, The Waterfront, is a family crime drama that comes from the mind of none other than Kevin Williamson. Of course, genre fans will be familiar with that name from his work with the Scream series and the first I Know What You Did Last Summer, with him actually now in the midst of directing the seventh Scream film, which reunites him with original final girl Neve Campbell. Yet, Williamson has arguably been even more successful as a showrunner, with a string of hits that include Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries, and more.
The Waterfront would become a hit, zooming to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 TV list.

It’s one and done for The Waterfront, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that Netflix has quickly canceled the crime drama after one season.
The show, created by Scream and Dawson’s Creek mastermind Kevin Williamson, only debuted all eight of its episodes on Netflix on June 19, but seemingly failed to find the audience to justify a renewal.
The Waterfront told the story of the Buckleys, a North Carolina family that turns to crime to save their fishery. The show starred Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Rafael L. Silva, Humberly Gonzalez, Danielle Campbell, Brady Hepner and Topher Grace.
The Waterfront had earned comparisons with other popular Netflix family crime dramas Ozark and Bloodline, however, its scores on Rotten Tomatoes were good but not great, with a critics’ score of 68 percent and an audience score of 66 percent. THR‘s review of the show was also mixed, despite singling out Grace’s performance,...

Hulu has given a pilot order to a series adaptation of Nash Jenkins’ 2023 novel “Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos.” Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran write and executive produce the teen mystery series.
Set at a boarding school on the East Coast, the project “explores privilege, scandal, sexuality and masculinity amid the rise of social media, millennial anxiety and pharmaceuticals,” per Hulu’s official logline. The book is narrated by an unnamed student of the boarding school who moves into a dorm room once occupied by Foster Dade, who had transferred to the boarding school in 2008 but was later expelled due to a scandal that the narrator investigates over the course of years.
Berlanti is one of Hollywood’s most prolific producers and is especially known for his work on teen dramas and within the DC universe. Among his prominent credits are “Dawson’s Creek,” “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Riverdale,” “You” and “All American.

We live in a day and age where reboots are all the rage.
Beloved classics are being brought back and reimagined every television season, and the results have been mixed to say the very least.
But there’s one show I don’t see anyone talking about in terms of a revival, and it’s baffling to me, as it’s widely regarded as one of the best teen dramas of all time. So why hasn’t it been caught up with reboot allegations?
(ABC/Screenshot)
I’m of course talking about the ABC ’90s classic, My So-Called Life, otherwise known as the series that launched the careers of Claire Danes and Jared Leto.
The one-season classic followed Angela Chase, a 15-year-old growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and trying to find her way in the treacherous world of high school.

When news hit recently that Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson were teaming up some twenty-plus years after Dawson’s Creek went off the air, many millennial fans were excited.
The former co-stars (and famous exes!) will team up for the film trilogy, ‘Happy Hours,’ which Holmes wrote, will direct, and star alongside Jackson.
The character-driven dramedy will span many years, as it explores young love and the reconnection of former flames in adulthood. Sound the slightest bit familiar?
(Hulu/Screenshot)
For those who may be too young to have experienced Dawson’s Creek in its heyday, the series was peak teenage drama in an era where that genre of television was as popular as it’s ever been.
The Kevin Williamson series made stars of its young cast, and it still widely remains one of the best (and most popular!) teen dramas ever. And its leading couple is still one of the most romantic pairings.

Not too long ago, I did a JoBlo Originals video on the 1994 Jeff Bridges/Tommy Lee Jones action flick Blown Away. In it, I mentioned that the movie had just been re-released by Kino Lorber on 4K Uhd—a cause for celebration. Or so I thought. While the movie is largely intact, two minor soundtrack substitutions have apparently been made, which you can read about here.
The movie relies heavily on the music of U2, and luckily those songs are intact. However, two other soundtrack cuts—Here’s Where the Story Ends by The Sundays and All Night Long by Aretha Franklin—have been replaced. In the case of Here’s Where the Story Ends, the replacement is a cover version you might not notice right away. The Aretha song, however, has been swapped out for some generic jazz, and they even removed Aretha’s name from a piece of...

Netflix just renewed another romantic drama for Season 2, and it could be the perfect Virgin River replacement. Since 2019, Virgin River has won over audiences on the streamer, taking a page from TV classics like Heartland and Dawson's Creek, telling a gripping romance story set in small-town North America. In fact, the Alexandra Breckenridge-led streaming hit has been such a success, it itself has started to influence a wave of new Netflix series, including Josh Duhamel's Ransom Canyon.
A new season of Netflix's Ransom Canyon has been officially confirmed, meaning it will not be long before audiences are whisked back up in the show's signature Virgin River-esque tale of romance,...

Of all the early 1990s kids' films revolving around a ragtag group of misfits playing sports, "The Mighty Ducks" is one of the most enduring. The original made an immediate impression on young audiences, so much so that it earned two sequels in quick succession, both of which featured many returning cast members. Each of the players on the Ducks had their own unique niche, whether they were an enforcer, a figure of comedic relief, or a pint-sized hero, making them memorable to fans.
While some members of the cast of "The Mighty Ducks" parlayed their experience in the film into an adult acting career, others struggled to find the same success or left the industry entirely, and many of them reunited for "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" series on Disney+. But whether or not they found Hollywood fame, plenty have led truly interesting lives on and off screen.

NCIS star Sasha Alexander's underrated detective crime drama is enjoying a resurgence on streaming. Alexander rose to prominence in the role of Caitlin Todd in the first two seasons of the hit procedural NCIS, before exiting following her character's on-screen death, citing the pressures and intense schedule of network television.
In addition to her role on the show, Alexander had a recurring role in Shameless as Helene Runyon, appearing in seasons 5-7. She has also appeared on the TV shows Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law & Order, FBI, Dark Blue, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as the movie Yes Man.
Alexander has enjoyed a strong filmography, but she is perhaps best-known for her hugely underrated cable TV crime drama that aired between 2010 and 2016, and is considered one of the best procedurals of the 2010s. The show is now enjoying a new lease of life on streaming.

Reese Witherspoon In Cruel Intentions Flashback ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )
Reese Witherspoon may have dazzled as the sweet and composed Annette in Cruel Intentions, but her road to the role wasn’t paved with studio deals or script admiration. Instead, it took a tipsy dinner, some desperate charm, and a director literally dropping to his knees. Back in the late ’90s, filmmaker Roger Kumble found himself stuck between studio pressure and his personal pick for the film’s leading lady. What followed wasn’t a typical casting process — unless your idea of negotiations includes alcohol, boyfriend leverage, and on-the-spot rewrites. In April 2025, Kevin Bacon's horror series, "The Bondsman" took over the Prime Video charts, signalling the arrival of what looked to be yet another popular series for the streamer. Just one month later, Prime Video canceled "The Bondsman" in a surprising turn of events that reminded us all of the fickle nature of the streaming sphere. For Bacon, however, this wasn't the first time he'd fronted an initially popular show with a grizzly streak that was cancelled before its time.

Netflix's crime drama series The Waterfront had all the makings of a hit series before its premiere this summer, and it fulfilled the prophecy. I don't want to wait...to see Dawson's Creek alums Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson on the small screen once again! Deadline reported that Holmes will write, direct and star in an upcoming film series titled Happy Hours. And guess who's set to play her love interest? That's right, Jackson and Holmes will reunite in the new dramedy, where the Dawson's Creek stars will play a couple who are trying to work through the "challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love," but there seems to be a series of obstacles standing in their way. Deadline describes the film trilogy as a "character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young lovers who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope."

Dawson's Creek is a coming-of-age teen drama that follows a tight-knit group of friends growing up in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts. Netflix’s The Waterfront arrived on screens June 19, promising a Southern crime saga with all the hallmarks of Yellowstone’s rugged family empire drama. But in the murky swamps of North Carolina rather than Montana’s open plains.
Created by Kevin Williamson, known for Scream and Dawson’s Creek, the show centers on Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany), a grizzled patriarch struggling through a second heart attack while clutching a glass of whiskey. Alongside his wife, Mae (Maria Bello), and their fractured children, the Buckleys juggle a commercial fishing business with a darker, illicit drug smuggling trade.
Critics and audiences alike have spotted the spitting image of Yellowstone’s Duttons in the Buckleys, as The Waterfront shot straight to the top of Netflix’s charts in a matter of days (per Tudum). But it has also left viewers polarized. As FandomWire observes, the series feels like Dawson’s Creek or The O.C. for...
