My favorite scene in the movie takes place when one of the lady pirates dons a space suit, floats over to an artificial planetary ring, sets up a wicked-looking sniper rig, and starts raining down energy bolts on unfortunate bad guys several kilometers down, precipitating an exciting escape attempt.
Another was when one of the main characters explains to the ruler of the planet exactly why it is that they will not trade their ship for their lives. Very Japanese, but with a hint of Ayn Rand.
Really liked the gals. Nice production design as well. And the music added to the interest.
This first episode was great. I hope more will be forthcoming. (If the weak second installment did not doom the franchise!)

A one word summary for this anime short would have to be 'incomplete', as it seemed more like a demonstration of the studios animation skills, than a real attempt at telling a story. It did look good - for the time - but there was too much background left open and practically no character development. Sound and visual results did show technical ability, for the most part. The characters that were 'pirates' on The Sol Bianca (a well done if OP ship design) were basically The A Team, in panties, in space. The big girl was Mr. T, the leader was essentially Hanibal, the pilot (artificial human?) was Howling Mad Murdock, and the Tarot card reading negotiator was Faceman. The annoying girl was gratuitous. After watching Sol Bianca: Legacy, I presumed that the background was in some earlier series of movie, so I took a look at this and Sol Bianca 2. Nope. These two OVAs may have been intended to get interest for a regular series, or perhaps more OVAs, but those never appeared, so there is no background and no development of any of the multiple sub-plots presented.
To sum up? I would suggest giving the Entire Sol Bianca set of animes a dismissive shrug. Unless you want to watch it just for the ship itself ( it has an onboard waterfall, even Captain Harlock never had an onboard waterfall ) it has too many faults and fails.

Iria:Zeiram the Animation and Venus Wars are my favorite anime titles. This movie is now included in that category. Sweet animation, fun characters, nice music, and exciting action scenes. A must see for anime fans.
In short, the OVA was lacking in too many needed points to be worth watching. Both OVAs appear to be teasers for a possible anime series, or movie, but neither ever appeared. It looks and sounds good for its time, but the story is poorly written - unless about one third of it simply was cut or lost. Negligible background, practically no character development.
An object of interest came to the main characters attention, they tried to get their hands on it, proved to be largely inept, but they possessed a 'unique' (and childishly over powered) ship - for no apparent reason - and were saved. End of story.
It could have been quite good, and that actually makes the finished product seem worse. You would need to be a 'completist', or willing to watch just for the titular ship - which is quite a good design - to enjoy any of the three OVAs. One of the characters is known by two of the other characters, to be a 'manufactured human' of some sort. But they do nothing with this story element. I have not seen any mention of a manga or light novel series as yet, so I still wonder why there were so many holes and undeveloped elements in the finished product. Again, I suspect that it was intended to be the start of a larger story that just never happened.
