Burbank, Calif., May 6, 2025 – Lethal Weapon, the 1987 action thriller film from director Richard Donner and starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, will be available for purchase Digitally in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K Uhd Blu-ray Disc on June 24.

The box office hit was nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Sound and spawned a franchise with three sequels and a television series.

The Digital and 4K Uhd disc release includes the 1987 theatrical version of the film and the 2000 Director’s Cut, which features an additional 7 minutes of footage not seen in theaters.

Directed by Donner (Superman), the film stars Gibson (Braveheart) as Detective Martin Riggs, Glover (Predator) as Detective Roger Murtaugh, and Gary Busey (Point Break). Shane Black wrote the script, and Donner, Joel Silver, and Silver Pictures produced it.

We never learn the name of Nicolas Cage’s character in The Surfer. (He is credited simply as ‘The Surfer’.) It might, then, be tempting to think that this film — which features yet another Cage character slowly descending into madness — is simply an example of the ‘Nicolas Cage Type’, of ‘Cage Rage’, of the kind of uniquely bizarre freakout that has for years provided ample fodder for meme-merchants and YouTube compilation editors.

Wick Is Pain, a new documentary from director Jeffrey Doe, offers an inside look at the early struggles of making the first John Wick, tracking star Keanu Reeves and filmmaker Chad Stahelski for a decade as it goes from being an indie film to becoming a billion dollar franchise.

At a special screening of the doc in Santa Monica on Thursday, Reeves and Stahelski joined Doe, producer Erica Lee, writer Derek Kolstad and producer Josh Oreck for a Q&a about the highs and lows depicted the doc.

In 1994, “Speed” not only helped cement Canadian actor Keanu Reeves with his action star status (alongside Kathryn Bigelow‘s “Point Break“) but also helped introduce audiences to Sandra Bullock, and the two are looking to reunite on an untitled project hailing from Amazon MGM Studios.

The news of the new team-up between Reeves and Bullock comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, as they reveal the film is going to be a “propulsive” romantic thriller that is going to be penned by Noah Oppenheim.

Exclusive: Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie has assembled the new incarnation of the beloved Ingalls family. Is the “eat the rich” subgenre headed downhill, or are we, as viewers, becoming too critical of it? 2019 was probably the year when artists from all corners of the globe cried out in unison against the economic divide through their work. Hence, we got anti-classist stories like Parasite, Knives Out, Aadhaar, and more. While we were losing our minds during the Covid-19 pandemic and watching how the wealthy were using even a devastating situation like that to oppress people and widen the gap between the upper and lower classes, Squid Game arrived in 2021. And, due to the popularity of the show, it seemed like people would really get together and reject this form of discrimination and inequality. But as soon as the public started cosplaying as the characters, while streaming platforms and YouTubers organized real-life versions of the Squid Game, I guess we began diluting the essence of “eat the rich.

Ingrid Torelli made a strong impression with her performance in last year’s horror hit Late Night with the Devil, and now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that she has landed the lead role in the shark thriller Breathe Deep! The project is described as being “a survival action-thriller set in the world of social media (but with sharks).”

Written and directed by James Kermack (Hi-Lo Joe), Breathe Deep will see Torelli taking on the role of Addy Frost, an exploration influencer who returns to the Devil’s Triangle 13 years after witnessing her father’s death in a shark attack. But when he replicates his encounter, donning a version of her dad’s vintage diving suit and descending into the deep, she finds herself in a battle for survival with a killer great white.

Speed, the iconic action film starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, has found a new streaming home this February. Fans of the action classic that shot Reeves and Bullock to stardom will be able to stream the movie on Max starting from today. It was a major blockbuster back in 1994, making over $350 million at the box office and winning two Academy Awards the year after in the Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing categories. So many dear pals lost homes in the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles and Pacific Palisades. Many were neighbors, Hollywood pals and friends from my 20-plus years of sobriety in the 12-step recovery community, which has had an enormous presence in the Palisades and Malibu for decades. First, let me say, my wife Ruthanne and I are safe. We moved out of the Palisades some years ago. We bought a home across from a park near downtown Culver City, but we spent 28 good years in the Palisades.

My love affair with Pali started when I was 8 and lived in Philadelphia. My father died, and every summer mom sent me to the Palisades to spend a month with good ‘ol Uncle Bob. He lived on Grenola Street with a front porch that overlooked the ocean where he’d sit and listen to a young Vin Scully calling Los Angeles Dodger games.

Back in the early ’90s, Tom Hanks was in talks to play Jack Traven in Jan de Bont’s iconic action-thriller Speed, instead of the iconic Keanu Reeves.

Hanks passed on the project, though the reason remains unclear. His career choices show a preference for depth-driven films like Saving Private Ryan and Road to Perdition. Speed’s action-packed thrills likely didn’t fit his narrative-focused style.

But Hanks wasn’t the only megastar to sidestep the role. Tom Cruise also turned it down before Reeves snagged the part. At the time, Reeves had gained some buzz from Point Break and Bill & Ted, but Speed catapulted him into Hollywood’s action elite. By the time The Matrix rolled around, Reeves was untouchable in the genre—and Speed was a big reason why.

It's extremely early in the year, but I imagine it will be tough for another 2025 movie title to come along that's more metal than "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera." But if this grungy, pulpy franchise had gone a slightly different way during development, we would have been deprived of that title -- and indeed, the "Den of Thieves" movies in their entirety. Keanu Reeves largely became a household name due to his work in the action genre. Point Break in 1991 was a seminal film in this respect, as was Speed in 1994. Of course, the film that cemented Reeves' position as an action star was The Matrix in 1999, which was a massive hit both critically and commercially, and was followed by four sequels.

After a career lull starting in the late 2000s that extended into the early 2010s, Reeves came back in a big way in 2014 with the release of John Wick. Reeves' portrayal of the titular assassin, aided by the assured action direction of Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, was a surprise hit, and he has now reprised the role for five films in total, including the acclaimed John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023. Reeves can next be seen as Wick in the upcoming spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Crime doesn't pay unless, of course, it's in a movie. From heist flicks to mobster movies, there is a whole slew of crime movies that fans have loved for years. The Godfather Trilogy, Scarface, Ocean's Eleven, Point Break, and Heat are just some of the films about criminals that have gotten positive attention.
