Russ Meyer Meets Robocop

"Robotrix" is like a Russ Meyer movie with robots and futuristic hardware. It is not terribly well made and it is totally confusing, but it is never boring -- not the uncut version, anyway. There is a graphic rape scene that is scissored from some versions, so make sure you see the film in its glorious uncut state. Mammary-heavy Amy Yip is "Robotrix", a Robocop-like creation who is enlisted to hunt down a renegade robot that goes haywire. Despite Yip's reputation as a sex goddess, she was quite coy about her body in most HK movies (the great "Erotic Ghost Story" excepted). In this occasionally sleazy outing, the nudity honors go to the stunning Chikako Aoyama, a woman with a body to render non-stop chatterboxes speechless.

Definite beer and snacks movie!

Not horror as such, but science fiction / action / adult comedy, this Category III film from Hong Kong is a definite beer and snacks movie. Although it may not be to everybody's taste, it's a fun movie for the most part (as is the case with many HK films, the humour can border on the tasteless).

The basic premise of the film is that a rather fetching and sexy lady agent has her mind transferred into the body of a robot following a shooting, thus becoming the ultimate sexy super-hero. Imagine "Robocop" meets "Charlie's Angels" with an adult touch and you've got the idea! The budget's not massive (and it shows) but it's worth watching if you're in the mood for something light after a more sober movie.

Action, Nudity, Sex and Martial Arts

"Linda" (Chikako Aoyama) is a female police officer who has been assigned to guard the son of an extremely wealthy oil sheik. Lamentably, her mission becomes a complete failure as he is consequently kidnapped and Linda (aka "Selena") is critically wounded trying to protect him. Meanwhile, at a lavish convention sponsored by the oil sheik with the goal of awarding a large contract to the best robot manufacturer, an evil Japanese robotics genius by the name of "Ryuichi Sakamoto" (Chung Lin) televises a video declaring that he has kidnapped the sheik's son and demands the sheik's complete cooperation. He then demonstrates his genius by killing himself while simultaneously transferring his mind into the computerized brain of a nearby robot. Not only does this give him incredible power and intelligence but the robot also has a remarkable human appearance as well. Not to be outdone, another scientist at the convention named "Dr. Sara" (Siu-dan Hui) also has a powerful robot with human appearances by the name of "Anna" (Amy Yip) and vows to help the sheik defeat Ryuichi Sakamoto. Although she realizes that Sakamoto's robot has the edge due to his superior human intelligence, she also devises a plan to essentially compensate for it. To do this she will need a human brain of her own and Linda is the perfect candidate. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that I was surprised at the amount of action, nudity, sex and martial arts this film contained. Unfortunately, the script and the special effects were considerably bad and this really affected the overall entertainment value. Even so, there was some good humor here and there along with several sexy actresses featured including the aforementioned Chikako Aoyama, Siu-dan Hui and Amy Yip which certainly didn't hurt this film in any way. In any case, regardless of the cheap effects, I rate this movie as about average.

Female Roberoticop

Or as others have said: Robocop mixed with Andy Sidaris. And while it has been a while since I last saw a Sidaris movie, if you have seen at least one of them you can guess where this is going. Now apart from nudity (mostly female, though there is one full frontal shot of a male one) and the Science Fiction part, there is the action part. And as over the top as the nudity and the story itself is, the action tries to top that too.

No holds barred - there is a lot of violence. Almost comical at times (and referencing the Flying Guillotine from the Shaw Brothers and other crazy movies) - but it does work. Really good to say the least. There is also Martial Arts - the movie is mostly fun and games then (with violent deaths and sex added for good measure).

Unfortunately at times it does get darker - and it may have cost it a bit of a higher rating by me. There are forced sexual encounters - that really were not necessary in my view, but I reckon they wanted to up the ante. Shame for being so dark and not being able to walk the fine line from start to finish - no pun intended.

Category III Cinema: Robotrix

Robotrix (1991) is another starring vehicle for Amy Yip. This Japanese-Hong Kong co-production takes place in the distant future where cyborgs, androids and sex robots are common place. It's kind of hard to explain this movie. Well, it is part of the Category III genre so you'll know what to expect if you have seen these type of films before. They're filled with plenty if nudity and violence. A lot of skin and buckets of gore. Now that you know what to expect what are you waiting for? Go out and grab a copy (if you can find one) today. i have only seen a dubbed copy of this film and I wasn't that impressed. But you can't go wrong with the well endowed Amy Yip who's quite the actress. Good cheesy adult fun.

Recommended.

Campy Hong Kong action Sci-Fi...

'Built by science... fueled by revenge' was the catchphrase on the DVD cover right along with 'Robocop meets Red Shoe Diaries'. Yeah, I know! Right? This movie is a very campy and not very serious action Sci-Fi movie from 1991 coming out of the Hong Kong cinema and allegedly it is one of the infamous exploitation movies that paved the way for other similar movies in Hong Kong.

The story in "Robotrix" (aka "Nu ji xie ren") is about a police woman who was gunned down on assignment and then brought back to life by restoring her conscious mind in an android body. She has to stop a mad scientist who is also existing in an android body.

The acting in "Robotrix" was as to be expected from a movie such as this.

It is difficult to take this movie seriously, given the storyline and the questionable effects.

Not really a very memorable experience in the Hong Kong cinema.

beautiful asian women but its stops there

My god this movie was terrible i cannot believe for one second it got released in theaters.

Yes beautiful asian women lots of nudity but the story is atrocious at best. I lasted around 40 minutes before i turned it off, even for a late 80 movie it was terrible.

Quite hilarious

I finally sat myself down to see 'Robotrix' in its entirety. Having previously skipped a few chapters already to see what it looked like, I knew what I was in for. And the time was ripe now, since I felt in the mood for it. 'Robotrix' is a pretty damn hilarious kungfu-cyborg cheese-fest with lots of nudity, rapes (robots apparently do love to rape, and the female victims don't even seem to mind it that much), over the top violence & bloodshed and incredible idiotic attempts at humor. All this in a plot that doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of sense and is unaware of the fact that a conclusion of some sort always helps to wrap things up. Pretty insane flick, crappy special effects included. I liked it. But let me remind you that it's a bad movie: 3/10... Oh wait,... I just checked its page on here. It's supposed to be a comedy??? That changes things: 7/10! Haha.

No, this is just a really-really bad film

I can't believe how so many reviews on this site has given this film such a high rating, they're forgiving and calling it both trashy and fun. It's really neither, it's just really-really bad. I'll admit that I didn't really read anything about this film before I started to watch it, just that it was a Hong Kong film and it was categorized as an Action-Comedy, having the classic Golden Harvest logo showing up at the beginning put me to ease, but then as the film started and moved on, things just got worse and worse.

As soon as the film started I cringed a bit by both the acting as well as the set and thought to myself "Wow, this looks like a porno..." and I didn't have to wait for too long when suddenly it cut to a sex scene, very awkward and made me just uncomfortable. I don't really watch any sex scenes normally, but something about those scenes in this film just looked like the actors performed "air-sex" humping in the air while the other actor did his/her best to act to it.

I'm not sure I should try and explain the plot since it's just really bad. Mad scientist transfer his body to a robot that looks like a muscular human and kidnaps the son to a millionaire and kills our main protagonist, who luckily gets her mind transferred to a robot too that the creators somehow made looking exactly like her former self. After that it's just lots of really boring jokes, dumb acting and bad fight scenes, you can tell from the editing that there actors weren't skilled martial art fighters.

You can tell that the filmmakers has taken some inspiration from Robocop and Terminator, but then completely skipped what made those film great. I know this is a silly softcore comedy, but even Stephen Chow did a better job in his Sixty Million Dollar Man, which I would still call one of his weaker films. For characters being robots, they sure showed lots of emotions and expressions when they got hit during fights, not to mention the whole sex-part, how does that even work when you're a robot? Does it even work that way? I have no idea and it only makes it more mad that I think too much about this film.

I've still given this film 3 out of 10 which might seem kind of me, it's a really bad film, but it's also just over 90 minutes long and had some lazy fight scenes. There are better "Bad films" out there to find, this is not one of them.

Very good if campy movie

This is a very good movie to take a chance on. For the most part, it's done well on a low budget. It has much nudity and sometimes is tasteless in it's humor. Amy Yip and Chikako Aoyama are very good. The copy I saw didn't have subtitles, but if you understand a little Cantonese, there's enough English to understand what's going on. Robots, killers, sex, gore. You can't ask much more from a movie!!! Overall, 8 out of 10.

Over The Top Category 3 Film

A prince from the middle east is kidnapped by a mad Japanese scientist. He manages to kill Selina, who was the prince's bodyguard. Utilizing the latest in cyborg technology, Dr. Sara (Hui Hiu Dan) transfers Selina's mind and body to a robot. Dr. Sara's assistant is Ann, played by the sexy Amy Yip, and they all try to stop this scientist and save the prince. This movie is a category 3 film, and its full of violence and nudity, especially Selina, played by the also sexy Chikako Aoyama. That this works at all is a minor miracle, but it manages to be a crude but watchable action film. Crazy things happen, but the film is not meant to be taken seriously. If you don't mind gratuitous violence and nudity, it passes the time pretty well.

Sex and Robots

This movie is indeed ahead of its time.. as I watched it after 30 years.. I still find it interest me

Although you must understand it was supposed to be on a shoe string budget film compare to big budget movie produce by Jackie Chan & Stephen Chow

It may sound cheesy but it can still be categorised under action comedy with nudity

The 3 actresses gave a fairly good performance .. the action performed in the movie still can top a lot of A list movies at that time and even now with added CGI

If the movie was done a bit later with CGI and a little script rewrite it would be much more higher in rating

Overall the hot scene was perfectly film and action blend it just nicely with a few comedy which at the time consider funny.. overall a better 3 star Hong Kong movie.

Has the vibe of a skin flick

I'm going to be real with you: This was watched with friends during movie night, and I dozed off for the first 20 minutes of this movie. I woke up during a sequence of back-to-back-to-back sex scenes which gave me the impression this had to be a skin flick.

It's... not, it's just really horny sometimes. But there is a proper story here, something halfway between Robocop and elements of the first Terminator movie. An evil killer robot man necessitates a robot woman (and her creator) to join the police force and fight back against him.

This is one of those movies that tries to have a little bit of everything. There's comedy, there's romance, there's sex, gun fights, hand to hand combat, and some surprisingly raw violence. And, uh, more than one rape scene.

So, it's sleazy. It's a little shocking at times. Unfortunately, the parts that matter, like the plot and the action, are just merely okay. The story is a little slow and never really feels like it's going anywhere specific or trying to say something. One of those movies that is just a list of things that happen until it eventually gets around to ending.

Not the kind of movie I regret watching, but not exactly something I'd necessarily seek out beyond the confines of Movie Night™.

Not a great movie per se, but ...

This film, which goes by the English title "Robotrix" and is available dubbed, is a Hong Kong version of Russ Meyer meets James Cameron. It's ultraviolent, with three hot actresses. The movie is sporadically entertaining and at times disgusting. I give it a 10 only because of the presence of Chikako Aoyama, who topless is a wonder to behold. Amy Yip is also beautiful, skinny and pneumatic. Otherwise I'd give it a 6. One extra point each.

Gratuitous doesn't even begin to cover it

If you gave a room full of college-aged males a small budget and a film-camera, this movie is likely what they'd come up with. It has everything the hormone-addled male brain would ever need - naked female kung-fu robots.

The amount of gratuitous (ie. not integral to the story) T and A in this movie is simply spectacular, not that there's anything wrong with that. And the fact that the A's and T's being exposed just happen to belong to two of the most popular Hong Kong Category III actresses just adds to the attraction.

If Mystery Science Theatre 3000 were on HBO, this would be the movie they'd pick for the premiere episode.

Highly reccomended, provided of course the wife, kids and neighbors are safely out of the room.

Billy Chow's Sausage

An evil scientist transfers his consciousness into a robot and kidnaps a prince for some reason and goes on a killing and r@pe spree just for the f··· of it. I don't like erotic crap but Robotrix is an absolute classic. It has some great robot action sequences, bloody violence and the cyberpunk elements are actually really good. Now, I don't like sex in movies because they hinder pacing but luckily there are only a few and they're not prolonging. Besides, two of the sex scenes were r@pe scenes and, rather being disturbing, they were actually kinda funny. One when the robot screws a woman to death and throws her out the window and the other when at the end of the r@pe we get to see Billy Chow's maniacal laughter as his little noodle is sticking out. Why I was compelled to mention this, I don't know. You'll also be greeted with plentiful nudity and it's good watchable clean happy nudity with some nice taters, frontal female (and male, ugh) nudity and firm female ass. And a hairy ass as well. Yay. One downfall is the (intentional) comedy and everyone with an IQ above 60 knows Hong Kong humor is irritating and often times unnecessary but whatever. Robotrix is paced well and it's campy entertainment value is enormous.

Of course.

Robotrix.

This is the finest artefact that mankind possess. No language contains the words to describe this CAT-3 sci-fi HK show. I love every single film ever produced (-hate).

I love this show, its like watching Panasonic's wet dream in 1983. 1991? This show has aged like a fine wine.

I'm out.

Peace and love to all people.

It gets most everything right

Hong Kong (& Asia) loves to combine movie genres and they get it right more often than Hollywood. This contains unequal parts crime drama, sci-fi, horror, comedy and softcore sex.

A decent story & script is the basis for this film. Nothing heavy but enough to give depth to the characters. The set designs, at least some were excellent for it's time. The acting is very good. Amy Yip plays one of the leads but they use every opportunity to display her cleavage although she has never shown a single nipple in a film. Special effects were a mixed bag. Some excellent (again, for 1991) & some not. There was some gore.

This pushed the boundaries of Cat III films of the time. There's violence, blood & gore. There is nudity and sex scenes. Robotix was the first Cat III to display full male frontal nudity albeit brief and I'm not even sure it was real. Some but not all of the sex scenes were actually interesting to watch besides the sex.

Now not everything was perfect. A couple of scenes got things a bit far-fetched which bothers me. Some of the humor is Chinese film humor and did not work for me.

This is the third time I have watched this movie. I enjoy it every time. It is always on my recommended Cat III films list.
