The show was advertised as "TV's first instant rerun" due to the fact that ABC would premiere new episodes on their Friday night TGIF block and Nick at Nite would rerun the same show on Sunday night.
The Nielsens are able to change their world from color to black-and-white and back again with their "Turnerizer" remote control. This is a dated reference to media mogul Ted Turner, who became a 1980s punchline for his efforts to have old black-and-white films converted to color.

Although the dialogue remained practically unchanged, the entire pilot was scrapped and re-shot when Susan Cella (Elaine Duff) and Eric Kushnick (Skunk Duff) joined the cast. 8 years after the show premiered, Nickelodeon aired the pilot as a part of a before-they-were-stars showcase highlighting the original actor who played Skunk, A.J. McLean, who went on to join the musical group Backstreet Boys.
Charlotte Booker (Honey Nielsen) cited Gale Gordon (Mr. Mooney) as her favorite guest-star. Not only was Booker a fan of the Lucy shows, but she got to spend additional time with Gordon since he appeared in both versions of the pilot.
